    Exactly why BPA is so meaningless. Many times there could be a number of players considered to the be the best at that point.

    I just don't see how anyone can say, right now, that Trestman is not going to succeed. How can anyone possibly know that. And if you don't know that, then you should at least give the guy a chance.

    the packers would have taken him in a second. Yes, I think it would have made more sense for them.

    Yes, I think next offseason he either needs to land that HC gig, or grab whatever DC position he can find. Either that, or make a jump to college.

    Eagles may have agreed to more of his control demands when other candidates fell through. Though sanctions probably played a role. According to tweets, he never demanded control, and wasn't given control. College coaches seem to enjoy telling everyone they are staying, only to jump ship a few days later. I like this hire for the Eagles. I don't. I think Kelly is going to need at least a few drafts to get the type of players he needs for his system/scheme and even then it'll be a huge crapshoot. The Eagles really bungled their coaching search imo. I'll grant you that it might take time. There have been a few coaches from the college ranks who experienced success lately -- Harbaugh, Carroll. I can see Kelly following in that line.

    I like the direction of the hire. I just have no idea how Trestman will work out. It's an interesting choice with Arians and Bevell still on the market. Without a doubt it signals that Emery is hell-bent on remaking this team with a greater emphasis on offense. And that is a welcome change in attitude.

    Bevell is also interviewing at Jacksonville -- the team everyone has forgotten is still looking for a coach :).

    But he likes Rivers? Apparently potential head coaching candidates were really excited about the San Diego vacancy for a chance to work with Rivers. They must not have seen Phillip the past few years or they really just want to live in San Diego. Now that McCoy has gone to another team, it's obvious he's a terrible coach and the Chargers have made a huge mistake.

    And Monte Kiffin got the DC job in Dallas. He could sit out this year and get paid for it, if nothing works out.

    Or Bevell? Yeah, last I heard he was still in the mix. I really like that the Bears are clearly breaking from the defense-first mentality. It would have been more like the franchise to pick up another defensive-minded coach, even in the face of the entire league going the other direction. I'll give any of these 3 candidates a shot at it. Should be interesting either way. And, I think, with an offensive-minded HC and Marinelli being given the keys to the defense, the chances of success are higher.

    Just bracing for the inevitable knee-jerk doomfest that will surely come from whoever the Bears hire, that's all.

    I can't find a reason to give Emery the benefit of the doubt. I don't think he deserves it at this point. OK, don't give him the benefit of the doubt then.

    Eh, that's pretty thin kujay. "Conventional" coaching hires have yielded scads of utter failures, too. I want to make it clear, though: I'm not "backing" Trestman.

    If you can guarantee the one you choose will be the winner, then I'll let you pick my next big investment too :)

    What are you saying, that one or more of these candidates is guaranteed success? Because that's how it reads to me. How can you say that?

    Which ones are far more qualified? He's been an OC and QB coach in the NFL, has a ton of experience working with QBs (including Cutler), and has HC (in another league, yes) experience. Any of the guys with several years of NFL success and innovation as coordinators. Do you think Trestman is hanging out in Canada by choice? He might be. Maybe he was told in previous interviews he needed to prove he could be a head coach and didn't want to go back to the collegiate level and deal with recruiting crap to do it. Just a thought. Yeah I suppose that's possible. Unlikely but possible. Just saw a tweet that the last CFL coach to land an NFL head coaching job was Marv Levy. Didn't know that. Anyway, more likely Trestman ran out of suitable options in the NFL. I don't mind a high risk/high reward move. Problem is at this point we have no idea what the reward might be. We have no idea of knowing what the reward might be with ANY of the candidates.

    Special teams. Why would he leave for another STC position voluntarily? I presume he is still vulnerable if the new HC wants someone different, although it seems like an easy choice to just keep him on provided he wants to stick around.

    This weekend couldn't have worked out better for the Bears. No more waiting necessary. I expect things will start moving quickly come Monday morning.
