i don't get how this is at all true. maybe this is over my head or i'm not getting something that's as plain as day. the traumatic injuries that he received were from his head being struck or from his hand becoming entangled and twisted, both upper-body injuries that have little to do with a pattern of wear and tear. I think he's essentially saying that Cutler is like a mini-McMahon. Takes too many chances, gets himself into trouble too much. I would have thought that his first several years of football would dispel that notion, but he's countering with the idea that those were just lucky years. Again -- I don't agree with it, but that's what it sounds like to me. So he'll be injured more because he'll stick himself into trouble too much.

5 straight years of pretty much injury-free football (2006-2010) kind of blows up that logic, TT. You appear to be arguing that he's become more injury prone because he crossed the 30 line, as if he's a WR or something. You aren't making much sense right now to me.

As for McCown, here's where I saw that he wanted to come back to the Bears: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-brad-biggs-10-thoughts-chicago-bears-20131230,0,3527042.story Maybe things will change if/when he gets other offers, but I'd sure like to see him return as the backup -- meatballs be damned. He's the ideal-fit backup QB for this club, and it should ease some of those injury concerns with Cutler that people have too.

If 2010 is irrelevant then why is 2011 relevant? Because it's when he sustained the first of several different injuries that have caused him to miss time, illustrating that injuries beget injuries. He's missed 5 of his last 16 and 6 of his last 32 games, so it's not as if 2011 was aberrant in that comparison. I find that to be a ridiculous assertion.

Ugh, McNeil on the radio with his "signature games" diatribe too. Makes me want to punch him in the damn face. At least he did say that he wanted the Bears to bring back Cutler. He just wanted the franchise year rather than this.

God, depressing. Bears have a lot of work to do though, so it will at least be a very interesting period.

Also, logic isn't always applied, so to suggest they wouldn't do something because it's illogical doesn't really work.

Those were just examples. But the point wasn't that someone better might become available. The point is if I was the GM, I wouldn't have thought Cutler did all the things to warrant immediately signing him for 50 Mil guaranteed. So, therefore you keep the option open of moving on from him if he has another year where he doesn't warrant immediately signing him for 50 Mil guaranteed, even though the ultimate result is most likely to be him being far and away the best possible option to be the QB for the forseeable future. Like sully said, my fear is that he's always injured. Sure every QB is vulnerable and Rodgers missed more time this year, but this is twice in 3 years Cutler has missed over 5 games. If I'm giving a 100M contract at the most important position on the team, I want to be 100% sure he's going to be out there more than 75% of the time. He hasn't in the last 3 years. There's no 100% certainty of that either though. I'm not completely disagreeing with you, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't going to be a white knight coming to rescue the Bears at a low cost. Do we really know what the numbers are, or is this educated guesswork?

Yeah, the only fear I have is that Jay gets injured every year. True, but I don't know how that fear goes away, regardless of who is the QB. The only way to hedge against that is to bring McCown back. THE ONLY way is to re-sign McCown? Seriously? OK, the BEST way. The easiest way. Sheesh, Mr. Correcto.

The alternate plan would have been to resign McCown and draft a QB with the idea that McCown handles the Bears while the new QB gets ready. Not all that outlandish, but who in this year's draft really gets you excited at the mid-first-round level? I don't think the Bears could afford to spend picks trading up either, so.... There doesn't appear to be anything on the horizon.

I thought it was just reported that it was the plan. I've been sick for three days though so maybe I imagined it. Sounds like everyone is waiting to hear if Dallas will block it. Doesn't seem to be much doubt that Lovie would like to bring him over.

Yep. They didn't want to fire him at this press conference. Put the onus on themselves and then make the change next week. Hopefully. Maybe they want to see who is eliminated this weekend too? I really thought we would get an answer today.

"Yeah I think I would have mentioned that we fired Tucker you dope." LOL, I don't think they need to ask it that directly, but knowing he's not fired, I think they can & should ask about what is going to be expected of him to improve that defense, beyond just getting guys back from injury. Right now I'm hearing that they'll get guys back healthy. That's pretty dumb -- more guys will get injured because they always do. Nobody should be satisfied with that kind of answer, if that's all it is.
