  1. They have to get Shea out of there regardless of their situation, they're running at him on every play, he's killing them right now. And play whom? ...someone??
  2. That's getting really old, Hester needs to down the damn ball
  3. I just hope the offense sees the field
  4. I can't forgive letting the giants run
  5. Good lord, my bad. I read his post completely opposite. I thought he was saying Sandberg lovers would be overjoyed at the idea that there's another ex-Cub star in play for the job. LOL, I'm a dolt.
  6. It's really hard to be comfortable in an NFL game these days, unless you are a fan of a select few teams. Just when you're feeling good about things, you find yourself in the 49ers' shoes, looking like utter crap for 2 straight weeks, or Cincy getting beat by the Browns, or Atlanta suddenly looking like they won't win 6 games all year. Nobody knows what's going to happen tonight, or next week, or any week. Feeling a little uneasy is just the way it is.
  7. Because he's really [expletive] baseball smart and ultra-competitive. Boy, the Sandberg lovers would go apoplectic. Why is that? I agree with him, and I think it's this meatball idea that an ex-Chicago sports star coming home and making good is some kind of ideal fantasy that should be preferred over an outsider. In order to understand the Cubs, you need to have PLAYED for the Cubs.
  8. You're looking at the battlefield where, in a matter of hours, the Coughlin crew will meet their definitive demise.
  9. Manning's season has been so good that his 7 TD game is actually listed as his worst game of the season by QBR! That's incredible. I saw that. Crazy.
  10. Yeah, his comments didn't sound like much to be concerned with, to me.
  11. I just don't know how much credibility that threat would have. There's not many people who would believe the Cubs are actually in the process of moving to Rosemont or whatever. They'd need to do something more to make it real. For example, when Ricketts had Naples, Florida thinking that they would get the Cubs to move there for Spring Training. Those people were holding meetings with the Cubs, town-hall type Q&A sessions, etc. It very publicly felt like the Cubs were moving in that direction. I don't know if that was all just a facade, but if it was, it worked very well.
  12. Does that mean he doesn't have a second interview with the Cubs? Or that he doesn't have another interview with another club? I assume the former, but the statement could be more clear.
  13. Just wanted to come here and say [expletive] the cardinals.
  14. Wisconsin isn't a 10.5 dog, they are favored Right! My bad! Seems like too large a spread to me.
  15. Wisconsin is a 10.5 point home dog this weekend against Northwestern, and that seems a bit excessive to me. I'm figuring this is going to be a closer game than that. I've got end-zone seats for this one. Going to be fun. I'm slightly torn -- root for both of them.
  16. To me, it just illustrates the shortcomings of that statistic. Geno's performance was pretty good, but obviously not in the same league as Manning's earlier in the year.
  17. Just can't think like that yet. We're on a 2 game losing streak, but this isn't the same kind of game that the past 2 weeks were. If the Bears do lose tonight, it will make me re-think things quite a bit. Right now, I'm still holding out hope that this is an above .500 team and should be able to take out an opponent in the midst of a trainwreck season......especially at Soldier Field. I'll go 31-23 Bears. Eli Manning will have some success with the passing game, owing to the lack of Bears pass rush on most plays, and/or blitzes that are picked up. I'm still counting on the Bears making things tougher near the goal line to pull us through, in spite of giving up yards between the 20's. Ultimately I'm expecting the Bears to make the Giants one dimensional, which should not be difficult, and then find ways to harrass Manning when it counts. The Bears get back to creating a turnover or two, which leads to points. If there's a team to win the turnover battle against, this is it. The Giants know how mistake-prone they've been, so expect them to concentrate on limiting the turnovers. Bears will still get a couple. Bears offense performs well, especially in the passing game, putting it in the end zone on at least a couple nice, sustained drives. Running game is largely controlled by the Giants, though. It won't matter as much as it would in the past, since the Bears are now becoming a more pass-oriented offense. I'm hoping to see the Bears develop their screen game more. Forte is a weapon out in the flat -- I suggest we use it liberally.
  18. Tough call on Paea. Don't want him to get hurt trying to come back too soon, but also really need to have some kind of quality in the middle.
  19. Panthers at Vikings not doing it for you? It will be interesting to see what the Packers defense looks like without Matthews. Hopefully their terrible. If the Panthers could get their heads out of their ass for 3 hours on Sunday, watching them beat a divisional rival would be kind of fun. But no, not real excited about that game on paper :). It feels like the Packers just dial up whatever offense they need to compensate for defensive failures. I'm not saying their injuries on D won't have an effect, but I expect they can compensate for it more than most other teams by just being more aggressive on O. We'll see.
  20. Wilson was the only guy they had who could make something happen in the run game. The Bears would be rightly embarrassed if they can't stop Jacobs. On defense, this should be all about frustrating Eli Manning in every which way the Bears can.
  21. Interested to see if the Browns can beat the Lions. That game has moved up from total crap to mildly interesting now. The worst point differential in the history of the NFL is the '76 Bucs, at -278. The Jags are now at -112, through just 5 games. On the subject of point differentials, the Eagles are now leading the worst division in the league with a -23. The Bills are in last place with a -18. This is definitely a pretty weak slate of games, but sometimes a cool upset comes along and makes it fun. Just better not be on Thursday night.
  22. We're all making a lot of assumptions here, but I would guess Theo feels a manager like Acta is a better choice to guide the more important prospects at the major league level. At the very least, he wants to make sure that his message -- which is what he's basing his picks and minor league development on -- is carried through the majors as well. If Acta is the best guy to do that, right now, then yes he's a better choice than Sveum. It's very clear that Theo Epstein didn't feel like Sveum was "on message" near the end. If 3 years go by, and the Cubs are significantly better but Theo feels like Acta isn't getting everything from the team at that point, then I would be surprised if yet another change is made.
  23. I didn't even hear about that until now, and I live in Madison.
  24. I don't see what good that would do. Smith's system is installed, anyone taking over couldn't make major changes until next offseason anyway.
