  1. Pretty good news for some other teams that have seen their strong start come back down to earth (ehem....bears...ehem)
  2. Think of it this way. If you can't succeed with these rules, then you really do suck.
  3. I'm having a hard time reconciling it with all the other things the organization has been doing.
  4. http://nbchardballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/acta_hat.jpg?w=441&h=509 Plus he's got style.
  5. Amazing. I was just thinking about how useless wins are. Then you posted this, and it completely set me straight. Thank you so much.
  6. Am I missing something or are you basing this off of the news that the Cubs are talking to other people? You aren't missing anything. It's just a guess based on the reports today.
  7. It just cannot possibly be believed. And it was Melton with an ACL, as well. At this point whoever the Bears put at DT has to feel like the drummer of Spinal Tap.
  8. Hmmm, reading between the lines -- expect to see an announcement that Girardi re-signed with the Yankees.
  9. The biggest defensive issue for me continues to be lack of pressure. The Bears are still capable of getting turnovers, but against good teams, if we don't get pressure against the QB, the chances of getting those turnovers are going to be greatly diminished. We need to force the QB to make mistakes, and too many QB's this season have been able to sit back and be comfortable in the pocket. Our safeties didn't play well yesterday, but again, pressure on the QB helps them out. Tucker did the creative blitz thing against Pittsburgh. I guess he figured Brees would burn it too badly, but I think that's really the only way this defense will generate pressure.
  10. It would be pretty gut wrenching at the point to lose to the Giants, at home, after they've been blown out 105-28 the last 3 weeks to the 1-3 Panthers and 2-3 Eagles I don't think it's going to happen. This is a massive drop off in talent from Sunday to Thursday. Saints are pretty consistently top 10 in all the FO ranking categories -- NYG are bringing up the bottom of the league in just about everything. NYG can't rush the passer this year, they are even worse than the Bears. Manning has been a turnover machine -- he's got 4 more INTs than anyone else. They can't run the ball either. About the only thing I can find that the Giants do reasonably well is stop the run. To me it would be completely shocking if the Bears drop this one at home. Maybe it won't be as huge a blowout as I would like, but I expect a much different story than the past two weeks, and a Bears win.
  11. My thoughts as well. His results do concern me. I'd be interested to hear more about the Cleveland stint especially. That was a pretty big collapse in 2012. But -- anyone can have a collapse of bibilical proportions in August, right? More seriously though, he sounds very intelligent, and he communicates extremely well.
  12. I really do not think Mike Tice would have been running a better offense even if he had the exact same personnel at his disposal. Mike Tice is a living example of the Peter Principle.
  13. Yeah, it's pretty clear the only chance this team has is to develop into a more consistent scoring threat over the course of the year. There's just no upside on the defense. They are what they are. Hope for a couple punch-outs from Tillman maybe. All the upside is on the offense. This is what Trestman was brought here to do. So do it.
  14. No excuse in this one. Kick 'em while they are down.
  15. Yeah, the Bears can make up for their deficiencies on a good day -- when they're getting turnovers, putting together a few good drives, etc. But I think it's clear, against the good teams, without those game changers -- they're just an average football team that can't match up with the better teams.
  16. I don't know man, that drop was terrible. Don't know what might have happened if the Bears score there. I'm not going to blame the loss on one play but we can't have that.
  17. I don't buy that nobody was open there. You can't triple cover 2 receivers and have everyone else covered too
  18. Pass blocking is porous today
  19. Yes, because they can't win any other way.
  20. Trestman's offense is not impressive. Cutler's execution of it is also less-than-spectacular. This isn't going to cut it. Loads of defensive problems too.
  21. It's bad now. Could get downright ugly starting the 2nd half
  22. Do it before giving up a 13 point lead
  23. Needed that, bad
  24. It just feels weird to strip the player budget under the flag of "lack of funds," and then go out make your manager the highest paid in baseball. It's.....schizophrenic. And, I think, it further underlines that Ricketts is full of horsecrap when he says he can't spend.
  25. There must be a cloud of bad vibes that hangs over that city or something.
