    I don't think you can do this unless you're completely prepared to walk away from Cutler entirely, regardless of another team making an offer or not. This move would do nothing but piss off the Cutler camp and make further negotiations on a contract nearly impossible because of the ~$8MM slap in the face of not making the full franchise offer. Even if he really doesn't play much for the last half of the season? It seems reasonable if the guy can't stay healthy for the Bears to look for a way to lower that hefty price tag somehow, or seek a method of compensation if he wants to go elsewhere and make more money.

    Sample size. McCown had a good half against a terrible D. A good game. And a good drive. He has a 10-year career of crappiness that shows the team would suffer with him as the fulltime QB...and that likely extends to anyone else, beca there is literally 0 chance the Bears get a QB as good as Cutler in 2014. That said, I really like him in his current role. I don't feel like the game is automatically over if he has to come in, which is good. But yeah, put him under the pressure of being the every week starter where teams can study him regularly -- he'll sink back to mediocrity.

    I don't even have an idea what games the Bears might win or lose. Other than the Vikings, the remaining games on the schedule seem too fluid to really predict. You've got a group of teams that all play inconsistently from week-to-week, or they have key injuries making the outcome of any game pretty much up in the air. Even the final game against the Packers: sure, Rodgers might be back, but if the Packers are out of it and Rodgers is only, say, 60% -- they might just sit him. Or, he might be back but not as effective as usual. It just depends on what the situation is once we get there. I suspect the Bears will wind up 8-8 or 9-7 and miss the playoffs. But it's just a wild guess. Interesting, looking at the Eagles and Cowboys games. We play the Cowboys @ Soldier Field, and the 'Boys are 1-4 on the road this year. Makes sense, good bit of luck for the Bears. Then look at the Eagles -- we play them in Philly. Bad luck, right? No, they're actually winless at home this year. :-k

    It was not a good game for him. Really bothers me that we lost by 2 and had a FG that was never attempted. The play calls on the 2-pt conversion also really lame.
