  1. My guess is most people remember seeing he had a 600 OPS earlier in the year, and they figure he's just hitting the occasional HR and nothing else, and haven't seen the numbers recently. Well, the criticism was based on an article that trashes Sosa, while failing to mention his OPS figures (or simply glossing over it by saying he's gotten power off only a few games, a weak argument by any measure). The holes in Sammy's swing have always been there, but have never stopped him from hitting a colossal amount of HRs and being a tremedously productive offensive force. The only thing Josh Towers should be embarrassed about is his own lack of competence, and the fact that he will likely be watching baseball as a fan like the rest of us in a few short seasons.
  2. You mean the depths to which the Yankees will go when they suck? I agree.
  3. Wow this was an incredibly stupid post. If what Sammy is doing is looking bad, I'd love to see some Cubs outfielders do that. Agreed. Watching the Rangers this year seeing Sammy come up is always a delight. Just went to MLB.com and looked at some of Sammy's highlights including opposite field doubles as well as HRs. If that's looking terrible... He did indeed start out looking terrible. But he's been very hot for quite a while now and his overall numbers are more than acceptable. He's posting an OPS+ of 137, 7 HR/21 RBI. Jacque's pulling an OPS+ of 89, 1 HR/8 RBI. I guess some people just can't handle that Sosa can still play. They see whatever they want to see. The actual numbers say he's doing quite well given his expectations.
  4. The look on his face is simply priceless  I seem to recall having that look on my face more than a few times as a Cub fan.
  5. As expected, the talk on Mike & Mike barely mentioned the Warriors. It was 100% about Dirk, how he chokes, how he can't be the man, how he's not capable of being a leader, etc. etc. I only listened for an hour or so, but I didn't even hear them mention the Warriors celebration.
  6. Kid's got to do what he feels is right. Now that he's lost his NCAA eligibility and wasn't drafted, he probably realizes he needs to be given a shot on a team that has few RB options. I'm thinking Green Bay might be another decent shot, if they would even offer the invite.
  7. Damn, man. Noc sure doesn't hold back. Not sure that's the most wise tactic against the Pistons. I think this is getting blown out of proportion. Seriously what do you expect him to say? Im sure everybody on the Bulls thinks they will win, and likewise for the Pistons. Its not like he came out saying "We are going to sweep them, they arent that good". The smart play is always the same: "We know they're a good team, we'll need to play our best basketball, our challenge is to play our game well..." yada yada yada Declaring victory just becomes bulletin board material for the other team.
  8. fixed :) I didn't watch closely, but I think the game was lost on a 3 run jack hit off the bullpen. A chink in the armor, perhaps? :-k
  9. Ahh, the Yankees take a page from the Pirates' playbook. Nice to know the Holy Yankees resort to injuring players when they start to stink. Way to go!
  10. Damn, man. Noc sure doesn't hold back. Not sure that's the most wise tactic against the Pistons.
  11. The Bulls chokejob in 05 against the Wizards was pretty bad. Not on the same level as this and the Cubs in 03. Wow, Richardson! He struggled with injury a bit this year, didn't he? Looks great right now. It's the 1 vs. 8 that makes this so special. When was that Denver series again? 25 years ago? Incredibly rare. And they aren't just squeaking it out.
  12. This is one of those rare devastating moments in sports. Probably the last one like this was.........well sorry but I have to say it..........the Cubs & Bartman in '03. Warriors are better than a typical 8 seed, but none of that matters. This is choking on a level rarely seen in pro sports.
  13. Wow. Can you say Colossal Choke Job?
  14. The latter. Dirk can't get it done, Dirk isn't a prime time player, Dirk can't be the guy, Dirk isn't a leader, and on & on. And it looks like it's all pretty much true from what I'm seeing right now.
  15. Wait a minute. Rome did an interview? 90% of the time his pathetic show is nothing but rehearsed script-reading wannabes trying to "have a take" when they should really be trying to "have a life."
  16. Same here. I think the best thing to hope for is quality starts for most of the rest of the year. He is bound to have an implode game at some point, I just folks don't go nuts on him after one such bad game. Yeah, he'll go out there one day and won't have the control or the movement and get tagged up pretty good. The key will be coming back after. Kind of like what Lilly needs to do now that he's had his first crushing.
  17. They likely won't remain constant but I think at the end of the year (unless injured) you'll see ARod among the league leaders in HRs and Beckett among the league leaders in wins, a main reason why they'll be up there is b/c of the hot start. I think Milwaukee will be at the top or near the top for most of the year b/c of this start and b/c overall they have some talent on that club. They definitely have more talent than I've seen since they joined the NL. I'm actually pretty happy about it -- I live in Wisconsin and the Crew has been down for so long, so unless it's the Cubs I try to cast a positive eye towards the Brewers when I can.
  18. Yeah, I'm shocked at his performance thus far, but there's always that feeling -- the 'waiting for the other shoe to drop' feeling. His career numbers tell us he will start getting hit eventually. Hopefully it's later rather than sooner.
  19. I'm not in favor of any move of Lee. He's our best hitter right now. What is with this senseless tinker mentality? We've won 5 of 6, right? Can we at least wait until Lee's not one of the league's best hitters before suggesting he should be treated like he's in a slump?
  20. I'm not so sure Zambrano gets traded. Besides, CC Sabathia is also going to be on the market if the Indians are out of it, and Rich Harden will probably also be on the market. I don't think the Cubs are ballsy enough to do it, but I'd still move Z for an impact bat, then try and trade off Jones and a reliever and a couple prospects for a starter. Imagine if we did something like Z for A-Rod then got Harden for EPatt + a pitching prospect(of varying value depending on what the view of Harden's health is from Veal/Gallagher to someone like Adkins). Soriano Murton A-Rod Lee Ramirez Barrett Pie DeRosa Hill,Harden,Lilly,Marquis,Guzman/other young arm It'd be a gamble on Harden's health, but with that offense... Sign me up yesterday. I don't see the Yanks parting with ARod, unless he slumps badly.
  21. I believe man-made causes have a partial effect, and when combined with cyclical changes in climate, could cause normally warmer periods to be exaggerated. Maybe even drastically exaggerated. That's JMHO.
  22. The question isn't why the prices are so high. The question is why they mysteriously came down almost $1 per gallon, right around the November election. I cry foul on Big Oil alot, but what "mystery" are you referring to? Gas prices usually fall as winter approaches. I see nothing out of the ordinary here.
  23. Nice! Yeah, these are the guys who feed Angelo the info to pick up low-priced mid round picks that become starters. Good move. Sign Gabriel to a long-term as well, please.
  24. A decent sized winning or losing streak would significantly alter those numbers though. The best thing to say right now is that it's still early. The Crew had a great month. Maybe they'll have more great months, and maybe they won't. They don't have to have any great months from here on out, they could play .500 from here on out and equal the win total of what I expected to win or come close to winning this division. They've set themselves up nicely in a bland division, unlike Cincy of last year, they have the talent to con't to win. You're sort of missing the point. For the sake of argument, let's say they have a 9-18 month of May. Now what kind of baseball do they have to play to get to 90 wins? Significantly over .500 So one bad month and suddenly they've got to play much better than what your April numbers say. It's early yet. April is April.
  25. Just keep retracting teams until we win the World Series. Then re-instate them.
