  1. Really? What did they learn about Fields by doing that?
  2. What the hell?? Is there a secret Bears coaching manual that is handed to each new coach?
  3. Yeah Fields just needs to pull it down if the first read isn’t there.
  4. It’s been all Texans since the Bears scored the touchdown.
  5. His linemen all got pushed down his throat. Fields has sucked, but that wasn't on him. Why? He’s not expected to see his OLine being pushed into him?
  6. Oklahoma’s gonna go down to K State.
  7. That tops the double doink.
  8. Not to defend the Bears per se, but that used to be more common. The GM role also changed a lot in the past 30 years and became highly player personnel/scouting focused with the advent of the salary cap in the mid 90s. But I don't think the Bears were the last team to adopt a GM title (or reestablish, after firing Finks). A funny alternative history maybe exists where Michael doesn't eff up the McGinnis hiring and stays on as Pres until 2011, when George replaced him. Phillips never becomes CEO and they operate old-school with no GM even longer than they did. But Michael gets demoted and Phillips first big moves as CEO/Pres are the Soldier Field deal and hiring Angelo as GM. Angelo then tries recruiting Saban who turns him down mostly because he wanted GM duties. IIRC, Lovie was seen as like 3rd choice behind Saban and someone else. Fun sequence of events leading to a failed McGinnis hiring and then the best stretch of the Bears in the past 30 years. Imagine that, first black coach (tied for first) to reach Super Bowl hired as 3rd choice candidate. if that doesn't say something... Incidentally there’s a pretty damning article in WaPo on the subject.
  9. Not even close (even if you're being pedantic about the GM title) totally agreed. Emry was probably the worst. Hell, there was even a time when the Bears had no GM God. I remember those days. WTF I can't even believe that happened, even now.
  10. I like the bearded look better.
  11. Does Lovie receive cheers, or boos, or indifference? I'd cheer. I have positive memories of those teams, and he is the best head coach we've had in a long time. Perhaps that's sad, but it's true.
  12. All those Packer fans in Platteville biting their tongues.... yay Bears (spend money please). Fun times.
  13. The first season I can remember following was 1985, I thought I was so lucky to be a fan compared to some of my friends who liked the Cowboys or the lowly Packers. I was actually a Steelers fan when I was very young because I had very blonde hair as did Bradshaw. But somewhere in the early '80's ('82 or '83) I started to love to watch Walter Payton more, and glad I did I liked the Raiders as a kid because they were evil or something that made sense to my kid mind... And they had Snake Stabler, the original outlaw QB who I still look upon fondly. I think it was Stabler going to the Oilers, and Payton with the Bears, combined with living in Chicago, that sealed it for me. I then was introduced to true misery as a football fan, but got to see the SB win too. 1994 was Wanny - that's a difficult introduction to the Bears. I'd say at least they got to see 2006. People tend to forget that year for some reason? It was pretty awesome. Didn't win the SB but I still consider that a fun year as a Bear fan.
  14. Yeah, meatball fans are ubiquitous and Portnoy knows it, and uses that to generate reactions and ultimately followers which can be monetized.
  15. OK. First game under Eberflus that the Bears are "supposed" to win.

    NFL Week 2

To be fair I don’t how many passes MIN WR’s are gonna drop. Not all on Cousins to be sure.

    NFL Week 2

Thought this was game of thrones thread when I saw this post Haha. As a miserable Bear fan I’m having a grand time watching Kirk implode tonight.

    LOL Cousins.
  20. Probably doesn’t make anyone feel better but I can imagine Viking fans are saying similar things about their defense that we were last night about the Bears.
  21. I wondered the same.
  22. and 40 years of experience with 10 superbowl wins (I'm clearly being sensational) If TB was in his 2nd year, would he succeed with this Bears roster? In TBs actual second year his WRs were Troy Brown, David Patten and Mark Edwards. His line was probably really good though. He had his share of struggles and several sub 200 yard passing games but that team won the Super Bowl so maybe its not the best comparison (i should probably delete bc I'm making a comparison that I'm not too serious about). But I do believe young developing QBs can still find success with subpar weapons. But you need a coaching staff that can put that QB in the best positon to succeed. I believe that too (QBs can succeed with sub par talent). That said, it's not knowable whether Brady would have succeeded with the Bears incredible lack of offensive talent in the passing game. So we just need to figure it out by watching him play the rest of the year. I think we're all in agreement on that. Yesterday was disconcerting, but it's not the end. Just going to have to go through these games and see where Fields lands after that. I think he'll get plenty of opportunities this year.
  23. Jeebus H Ba-jeebus, it's a dark splotch. There's no football to be seen. Get over it!
  24. He's looking down his primary receiver and holding the ball way too long. OK, I guess you are right. It's still a little too early. But what you posted is like deja vu for every other failed QB the Bears have had. It's too early, he doesn't have help, too many coaches, etc etc. I find it to be more likely at this point he will ultimately fail, for whatever reason(s) we want to point to. But since this season isn't going to be a good one anyway, I'm OK continuing to play him.
  25. That’s not how replay works. They don’t draw lines and assume things. It has to be clear and that wasn’t clear. If the roles were reversed we’d be apoplectic that they overturned a call without irrefutable evidence. It probably was a touchdown, but barely and not clear on replay. If you run a play that leaves you open to that problem from an inch out, that’s on you. And even if they overturn that call the bears don’t win that game. Just freaking stop already. That's exactly right.
