  1. You were sweating in a 7-2 win? The tying run never even made it to the plate. Nah, I wasn't referring to last night. Just in general. I'm too nervous, anything under 3 runs I don't feel comfortable.
  2. Ack, Ohman coming in to face the lefties. Gonna give me a nervous breakdown. Such a good opportunity tonight! Must not blow lead. Must. Not. Blow. Lead.
  3. Ack, they're going to make me sweat the 9th again. Ohman up along with Howry --- hmmm, Lou not showing the total confidence.
  4. Less & less reason to start Pagan over Pie. Both can't hit, I'd rather see Pie.
  5. I assume so. Scary as that may seem. The former Sox pitcher in. 2 run lead is dicey for Howry these days, even against the Nats. Need another run!
  6. Quiet you. At least some of us that don't live in Chicagoland can still be able to see the game, unlike Comcast. :D I know, I mean outside of Cubs and Bulls games 8-) If they got rid of those, would 5 people have a bonafide reason to watch? MOESHA???!?!?!!? Isn't that like, romper-room reject crap that Nickelodeon kids refuse to watch?
  7. Good Lord, WGN is the worst channel on the dial. And it's not close. Friggin' Lifetime network has better programming.
  8. Damn, that could have ended it. Let's go Z.
  9. The Cubs can't control what the Brewers do - only try and win their own games. I'll take 11-5 every 16 games for the rest of the season. 8-) LA, AZ, and ATL don't impress me very much. If we just concentrate on winning in July, I wouldn't be a bit suprised to see us jump on top of that wild card race. The Crew probably won't slow down, they're real good, are getty Cappy back, have an easy schedule, hit really well, blah blah. Too many reasons I can think of they won't slide. Hope they do, but I'm not counting on it. Not winning the division doesn't have to be the death knell of our season, though.
  10. DeRosa looks like he's ready to go out and party like there's no tomorrow. What a great pic, thx.
  11. I think he's the closer right now. I'm not convinced Lou's giving it back to Demp when he comes back, or if he should. Marmol has raised his game about 5 notches this year.
  12. I dunno. At this early stage in his career I'd rather see him continue to exercise patience, even if it doesn't work out as much. I'd hate to see him go 'first-pitch crazy' like CPatt did. Yes, his swing is much better than CPatt's, but still.
  13. That is interesting. Hopefully his upcoming starts at Wrigley will also feature the wind blowing in, like today.
  14. I don't know. Things go in cycles because the NL dominated that game at one time. It would be nice if they won this year (at least for me because I like the NL better). :D well I like the NL better too but I have little faith in them winning judging by the choices for made by both teams and the fact that the AL has dominated in the last several years. Fans keep choosing dinosaurs like Bonds, no wonder the NL loses every year.
  15. I sure hope they continue to suck. The last thing we need is the Pirates jumping up and giving us more losses. We've got enough trouble with just the Brewers. Please keep sucking, Pirates.
  16. Just win series. If the Cubs win the majority of three game sets the rest of the way they'll be in good shape. They do have to play better at Wrigley Field, though. Hahaha. I'm guessing you forgot to go back and edit this post, right? Brewers play what? 5 more series all year against opponents over .500? The Cubs would need to go on a hellish winning streak, and the Brewers one hell of a losing streak, for us to catch them. Just winning 2/3 in a majority of series? That boat, as they say, sailed long ago. Do the Brewers look poised to start dropping 10/11 or 12/15 any time soon? Best hitting in the division, and it's not close? Pitching right up there with us in the Central -- nobody else in the same zip code? Easy schedule the rest of the way? I don't think so. Did they look poised for a long losing streak when they were 24-10? Who knows how the Brewers will play for the rest of the season? My bet would be on over .500, but it is possible that they will be mediocre or worse the rset of the way. Just playing .500 will probably be enough. They'd likely need to play under .500 for us to even sniff a chance. I gonna assume you know that's not happening. You make two false assumptions here: 1. The Cubs have need the Brewers to play .500 ball to have any chance at the division. This isn't completely true. If the Brewers are slightly over .500 the rest of the way (41-40), the Cubs would need to go 48-34 (.585 ball) to tie them. They would ned to play well, but it isn't out of the question for the Cubs to play that well. In order to secure the division, the Brewers would need to play at something closer to their current pace. This leads to the second assumption: 2. The Brewers are guaranteed to play at least .500 ball for the rest of the season. THhis is absolutely untrue. Baseball is a game of chance, and we have seen the Brewers go stone cold for an entire month this season already. It seems likely at this point that they will continue to play well, but it is entirely possible that they struggle towards the end of the season and play .500 ball, or even somewhat worse. This is mind, the Cubs still have a chance at the division. Of course I'm making assumptions. I don't think assuming one of the top teams in baseball can continue at least at a .500 clip, or assuming the Cubs, who have struggled in the first half, will fall short of playing 14 games over in the 2nd half, are terribly bad ones. I'd love to see it happen. I'm just trying to be realistic here.
  17. Prophetic! He could have used it with that bat-head helicopter that nearly took him out in the first. Wasn't what I was thinking. I should stop making predictions; people are getting hurt
  18. Hahaha. Nice one. My advice? Marquis should wear body armor under his uni today. Meh. The Brewers offense isn't as good as it has looked the last couple games, and if Marquis is wearing body armor Bush should also invest. He has been as bad ALL season as Marquis has been recently. They are 7th in the majors in runs. They're not going to put up 10+ every game out obviously. We're 18th. Sox are 30th 8-)
  19. The same Barrett had 5 guys steal out of 5 attempts the day before with Chris Young on the mound. One of those steals was Russell Martin stealing 3rd. Barrett was never good at blocking balls, but he's been absolutely brutal this year in regards to passed balls. And 3 guys did still bases successfully against Barrett last night, including Luis Gonzalez. So basically, he nailed 1 out of 9 in the last 2 games. He's never been good at throwing runners out, but I don't see our current batch blowing doors off nailing runners either. My main point is, the whole 'addition by subtraction' thing with Barrett hasn't panned out. Our pitchers have not improved with him gone. Marquis is still a 5.2IP 4ER performance most times out. Marshall is still Marshall. Lilly is still only good when he feels like it. Hill is still sliding.

  21. For all the Barrett bashing around here, he caught Peavy last night, 1ER 7IP -- threw out a runner trying to steal 3rd. Our pitchers in the meantime have looked less than stellar outside of Z, and Barrett's not within 2000 miles of them. Our pitchers sucked when Barrett was catching because they just aren't all that great, save Z. Now we're talking about Soto as a savior? Hahaha.
  22. Hahaha. Nice one. My advice? Marquis should wear body armor under his uni today.
