  1. calm down, Iowa will find a way to make your lead stand So, what's the score? 21-13 IU with 2 minutes left in the 3rd. And IU just scored a TD.27-13 pending the PAT.
  2. You really thought that? Illinois is a solid team with some nice young talent. Problem is, that nice young talent is coached by a mediocre to bad head coach (Zook). I'm not surprised they're winning, but I can see why people would doubt them. It really amazes me that Zook has this label of mediocre to bad coach, when hes been a head coach now for how long? Florida was his 1st head coaching job, and I think its pretty reasonable to expect that he might mess up a little in his 1st job as a head coach. I just think its a little early in his career to say hes a terrible head coach. Hes starting to get talent at U of I now, and it will be interesting to see if hes made a progression as a head coach. With that being said... ILL He was a Florida for 3 years, I believe and now at Illinois for 2 (maybe 3). I agree that he may improve as a head coach, but there were a lot of questions surrounding his hire at Florida (people asked when he got the job if he was any good) and he was far less than impressive despite pulling in awesome recruits there. Last year's national championship for Florida was basically done with Zook players. Also, I never said he was terrible. Just mediocre to bad. Probably closer to mediocre.
  3. The alum just brought Charlie to Candy Mountain at half time. Ouch. You ought to lay off ND for a while. I feel sorry for them. I haven't really had a chance to watch them play so that's why I'm making the comments that I am. I can't feel sorry for any college team that gets the pub they do. I respect their program but after losing the Heismon to Brown on a team that didn't pass and he just returned kicks for an 8-3 team, no, I don't feel sorry for them and I won't even go to the Paul Horning thing vs Jim Brown. I can understand that. I do feel bad for the fans, though. It was just a couple years ago that Tennessee languished in a 5-6 season where our offense was awful (still not quite this bad though). Interestingly, that season had a Clausen at the helm for much of the year too. Jimmy's older brother Rick. I remember that. I think a team learns a lot about itself having a season like they are. You've got, much like your UT teams, many 5 star kids who are used to dominating and now they're getting their butts kicked. You now get to see who really is football tough and who withers away. Exactly. That's what I (unlike many Tennessee fans) really respect about Fulmer, Cutcliffe and John Chavis (D coordinator) is that after that 5-6 year, changes were made and we had a significantly better season. If Arian Foster doesn't fumble deep in Penn State territory in the bowl game, we likely win 10 games in 06. That's a huge turnaround. Next year, I think, will prove the true mettle of Charlie Weis.

  5. I honestly haven't noticed him that much (except for a few below average kick returns). That jump ball catch by him today was nice though, and it shows how much confidence they have in him to throw up a deep ball like that. I definitely think he could develop into a good player in a year or two. Thanks. I've been curious because Fulmer and staff took a lot of flack for not even offering Tate a scholarship. Fulmer said he just wasn't as high on Tate as the scouting services were (he was a five star I think). Harrison Smith doing anything? Or is he redshirting?

  7. For ND fans, How's Golden Tate doing this year? Earlier in the second quarter was the first time I've heard his name this season and was curious how the ol Tennessee boy was doing.

  9. I don't know that I'd put much, if any, blame on the coaches for this. Jones just seems to have issues. He's recruited by Charlie Weis, who everybody knows won't run an option-type offense (which is what Jones would excel in). So he gets mad when a very good prototypical (best for Weis' system) beats him out and leaves without telling anyone to go to NIU. Now, for no real good reason, he's leaving NIU about two weeks later to go to Cincinnatti. Kid needs to make up his mind and stick to a decision. From what I know, I don't blame the coaches. Kid would've broken every single-game yardage record on the books against Ball State's defense, so I shed no tears here. He would've shredded MAC defenses and probably would've led NIU to a MAC title in 08. Unfortunately, this was just a fantasy. An extremely rude one at that. Oh yeah, the loss definitely hurts. I just don't think - because of the circumstances - the NIU coaching staff is to blame.

  11. anybody that roots for a major college program and thinks that the athletes on the team are students of the same caliber as the average student at that school is kidding themself. Maybe not but some schools prefer to have kids that are not students in any capacity. Winning and doing it "the right way" is almost impossible because of these schools. Do they really prefer to have kids on the team that aren't great students, or do they just do what they can to get the best football players/athletes that meet or exceed the minimum academic requirements? If the kids do meet or exceed the minimum NCAA academic requirements, then why would this not be considered winning the "right way"? Head coaches are under a lot of pressure to win and now. Most don't stay on the payroll because of how many of their wide receivers went on to medical school later in life. I somewhat understand your point. Schools such as Vanderbilt are at a disadvantage because they hold their athletes to a higher academic standard than the NCAA ...but the NCAA really needs to raise minimum requirements for any nationwide change to come into fruition. Not exactly. I'm talking about kids that are out of control and coaches that let them do as they want. These kids that get arrested all the time but yet still are able to play. Florida St really helps prove the point by making a kid second string after getting into a fight with some cops. Texas with 6 kids arrested, that's just this year. God only knows what Vick got away with at VTech and we saw what a jerk his brother was and Beamer did nothing until forced to. I'm all for giving a kid a chance but there comes a point when this is just getting plain ridicules. These are the ones we know about and not the ones that are swept under the rug. These kids are thugs with no one holding them accountable because of this pressure of winning. Look at all the SEC teams that go on probation, is there one that hasn't been? They skirt the rules by the skin of their teeth not just once or twice but constantly. I have no idea how Ohio State hasn't gotten in trouble. I don't recall when Tennessee was on probation. It may have been before my time, but I can't remember it. Also, Vandy to my knowledge has never been on probation. :D
  12. You've finally seen the light. :D Seriously though, even though I think Georgia is a better all around football team than South Carolina, they shouldn't be ranked ahead of them. Part of the reason, I think, is that the Bulldogs began the season ranked better, and that Georgia is given more slack because of recent success. Like you said, it's back to the argument I made before. Past success gives teams more leeway in voters' minds - rightly so or not.
  13. Yeah, I expect them to open it up in the second half and pull away. they did a similar thing against tennessee and to a certain extent troy. the first two drives against Tenn they did nothing but crap. In the second half against troy they did the short passes. they probably will throw it deep to cooper and co in the second half. Yeah, if Ole Miss is going to even put up a fight, BenJarvus Green Ellis has to be awesome in the second half. That said, I don't expect it.
  14. Yeah, I expect them to open it up in the second half and pull away.
  15. And then the Rebels shoot themselves in the foot with a false start and a sack. And then the Ole Miss kicker misses a 47 yard field goal short.
  16. I can't express how happy I'd be. They'll still beat us by 50. Sorry. I'm not at the game because I have no intention of watching that slaughter. I fully realize there's next to no chance Ole Miss won't get blown away, but I want to keep lying to myself a little longer. The thought of that upset is just too good. :D By the way, it's 14-6 Florida with 2 minutes left in the first half. Ole Miss is driving inside the Croc 20.
  17. I can't express how happy I'd be.
  18. He could Appeal right? I'd say so. Not sure if he will though. With our luck on stuff like this, not likely. Why wouldn't they? Actually, with them still being in the race, I'd bet they will. I feel dumb - it just dawned on me they're in the race (somewhat at least). So, yeah, they should appeal. Not sure how appeals processes work at the end of the year like this. They push this back just a few days, he may not have any games to sit out.
  19. Getting Dotel back helps, but Soriano is worlds better than Octavio.
  20. He could Appeal right? I'd say so. Not sure if he will though. With our luck on stuff like this, not likely.
  21. He came in late last night to play CF. If he got an AB, he got out.
  22. I found this very interesting...and depressing. Rafael Soriano has been suspended by MLB for 4 games (the exact length of the Brewer series) for hitting Dan Uggla. Soriano is probably the Braves' best reliever and has a 136 ERA+ this year. He also has 64 Ks to only 15 BBs. Can't find a link, but I saw it on ESPN's bottom line.
  23. Yea, the Brave lineup is very stacked. Andruw Jones, Yuniel Escobar, Chipper, Mark Teixeira, Brian McCann, etc are looking a lot better than JR Towles and Cody Ransom. IF the Braves play up to their ability, there's no reason they shouldn't win this series and help us out greatly.
