  1. He's not Calvin Johnson, but at 6-3 he's taller than most WRs in the draft, he's strong and athletic and has good to very good hands. Plus he's only 21, so he's got more time and upside. I kinda question whether he's average speed or not. He's no burner, but the times I've seen him I'd say he's probably above average speed.
  2. Assuming I am now capable of reading, the Dolphins will sign safety Gibril Wilson to a 5-year contract. I like Gibril, but didn't expect him to get a long-term contract. I'm curious to see what the money is.
  3. I'm not a Crabtree fan, and I think Monroe is the best OT in the draft, and the 2nd best player available. (Curry 1st) I love Crabtree. I think he'll be a steal from this point on.
  4. seahawks fans would riot about this pick (if they care) I agree, but it'd be a great pick. I like Monroe quite a bit.
  5. That works. I was gone for a while and didn't want to overdo the PMs if someone else had.
  6. huh? May I help you? Without him being able to workout, being rated by most in the teens, and the fact Kansas City has so many holes they aren't likely to reach to fill one specific void having Orakpo go three seems like a reach to me. It's your team but I don't think Kansas City would take Orakpo over Maybin if they wanted a pass rusher.anyways but they are close so I could understand it. I'm just surprised with all the others top prospects out there Orakpo would go so high. Most all the mock drafts I've seen have Orakpo going before Maybin. All of them having Orakpo just outside the top 10, but Maybin's lower - in the teens range generally. I think Orakpo's a bit of a reach here, but the Chiefs desperately need talent and he's definitely got it. I'd say it's likely the new Pioli/Haley duo will swap to a 3-4 defense and Orakpo will fit in a DE spot or OLB in that scheme. Personally, I would have gone Stafford, but I'm a big fan of his. Has anyone PM'd mhuber, by the way?
  7. I just noticed another reference for the "on-line" version of the saying. Futurama episode "The Why of Fry" had Leela saying: "Poor Fry used to stand on-line for six hours just for tickets." I've seen this episode numerous times and never noticed til just now.
  8. Good. Now there's no temptation for the Titans to sign him. With my luck, they'd have no interest in any high-priced WR except TO.
  9. Harrison won't be a free agent until next offseason. He is just trying to get more money out of the Steelers right now with an extension. Look at you, able to read and all. I'll learn to read one day.
  10. Lots of fairly big moves today: James Harrison has not come to an agreement with the Steelers and will become a FA(though they'll keep negotiating as well). Laveranues Coles was cut by the Jets. I really hope the Titans look into him, but I doubt they will. Derrick Brooks, Cato June, Joey Galloway, Warrick Dunn and Ike Hilliard were all cut by the Bucs. That's a lot of names hitting the market in that group, though all but June are well into their 30s.
  11. Great pick. They need defensive help and Curry's probably the best defensive player in the draft (or close to it). Handlebar McSkullet and the Chiefs are now on the clock.
  12. character issues and combine overreactions are what have players who kicked ass throughout college slipping to successful teams where fans of the other teams wonder "hey why didn't we take that guy?" Randy Moss and Terrell Suggs, for example. Good point, and why I think he'll end up in the top 10. I don't dislike the pick at all, personally.
  13. Very interesting. I think Smith will end up in the top 10 due to talent, but 1 may be a bit too high. The Lions may take the risk, though. reggiemiller rules and the Rams are now on the clock.
  14. I did not mention that, quite the opposite. any specific reason given for the lack of interest? He hits with his right hand. Most likely. Not really since there looking for a RH bat for this spot. I hadn't heard that. The emphasis this offseason has been 100% on getting more left handed so I figured that's what they'd be doing with this spot.
  15. Today is the big day, my friends. With the end of the NFL combine comes the beginning of the NSBB mock draft. I guess we'll officially kick things off at noon today, so at 12 p.m. EST, Cro Magnon and the Detroit Lions will be on the clock until he makes the pick or noon tomorrow. Once someone makes a pick, it would be greatly helpful it the one who makes the pick would PM the next in line. The official draft order is in the first post of this thread. I'll PM Cro Magnon.

  17. Sullivan was far from the only one. But I think Hendry's words, that he traded DeRosa and then signed Miles so he could get more left handed is much more likely to be the answer. I guess they were all wrong just like they were on the Peavy "done deal" stuff. Since Fontenot is the LH side of that platoon and he was already on the team signing Miles doesn't make the Cubs more left handed. Putting Bradley in LF is primarily what Hendry indicated made the Cubs more left handed and his actions point to the fact that he needed to clear the DeRosa and Marquis salary to make room to sign him. Actually, to nitpick a bit, we had lefties in center and right most of last year (Edmonds in CF and Fukudome in RF). The spot where we got more lefty was at 2B, where Fontenot's lefty bat replaces DeRo's righty bat.
  18. Like I said, we're at $137 million now. That $3.3 million is simply too much to take on? Maybe, but I don't buy it.
  19. any way you slice it, trading derosa and bringing in bradley was an upgrade to the team. Those weren't mutually exclusive ideas though. In fact, signing Bradley should have been a big vote towards keeping DeRosa (DeRosa allows you to take Bradley's great production when he's in there and not have a monumental dropoff when he's not). Even if the Cubs were at their absolute major league payroll limit, there were other ways to slice 3.3 million off the payroll. Precisely. If it was DeRosa gone for 150+ games of Bradley, I'd be all for it. But with the high likelihood of Bradley missing 50-60 (or more) games, the need for DeRosa only gets bigger.
  20. Why? DeRosa was the versatile veteran making a few million to play regularly at 2B and fill-in at multiple positions. But he only hit RH. Miles is the versatile veteran making millions, who replaced him. Miles was brought in to play many positions and bring "balance" to the lineup. They wanted to get more LH and he is the only guy on the roster brought in to replace a RH in order to accomplish that goal. There's no reason not to compare the two. I'm using a much simpler explanation. Miles was brought in as a sub middle IF who can play other positions in a pinch. That role for the past few years was Cedeno's and not DeRosa's. DeRosa was brought in to be the starting 2B and was versatile enough to play other positions in case of injuries. Therefore, Miles is replacing Cedeno. The simple explanation is DeRosa left and Miles replaced him. Cedeno averaged 150 PA a year under Piniella. Miles, as the only backup infielder, and very likely platoon option at 2B, is going to dwarf that number. There is no replacement for Cedeno, as of now. If Hoff ends up making the 25-man roster, you could make the argument that he's replacing Cedeno (seeing as how we won't have any other backup MIF). That's an upgrade. :D
  21. But you still have the at bats missed by Aramis, Soriano and Bradley when/if they get injured. That will be quite a few ABs - especially for Bradley. Had we still had DeRosa, those ABs would have gone to him. Now, they'll be mixed around among Miles, Hoff and Gathright. That's why the DeRosa trade hurt so much. I agree that I would have tried to keep DeRosa, but I guess Hendry felt like he was the one that had to go for whatever reason (salary, need to be more LH, etc.). Once before you posted that time missed by Soriano and Bradley would be covered by Miles, Gathright, and Hoff, but I would think Johnson would get more of the OF ABs over Gathright if someone is injured. It depends, Hendry wants to get more lefty after all and Reed's a righty. Even if Reed fills in full-time in RF when Bradley goes down (for instance), that leaves Fuku to play full-time in CF. His numbers vs lefties will be a whole lot worse than DeRosa's numbers were he in RF and the platoon stayed in CF. Any way you slice it, trading DeRosa and bringing in Miles was a downgrade to the team.
  22. If Haynesworth is indeed headed to Washington, it appears a very, very large amount of his salary will have to be exempt from the salary cap. This is from the National Football Post, and they have the same rumor about Albert heading to Washington. It'll be interesting, I guess. Both stories were from today.
  23. Yes, but he's also repeatedly screwed up by overpaying for names. The fact that he might sign him makes me rethink my idea that the Bears should. Very true on overpaying for big names. Haynesworth is well worth signing, I'm just not sure he's worth $15-16 million a year. I would have been fine with the Titans making him the highest paid defensive player in the league, but that's about the upper limit.
  24. True, but if a large part of it isn't signing bonus, then if you cut him you'll have a whole lot of dead salary sitting on your cap. Snyder can afford to give out massive signing bonuses, but if they don't here it could come back to bite them. It's the bonus that counts against the cap. If they cut him before the end of the contract, it's only the prorated portion of the signing bonus that is a cap hit (if I'm understanding correctly). Right, it's the opposite of Dew's concern. You'd prefer no signing bonus, then you can cut him at any time and it doesn't hurt your cap at all. But it's going to be a big one. And the team that signs him will structure it so that they can cut him after the 3rd or 4th year if they have to without killing themselves. Regardless, even if it does blow up, it's going to be a one year problem, the year they take the hit. You really shouldn't care if it's 7 or 8 years, what you should care about is the structure. Yeah, you two are right - that's what I get for posting in the middle of working. We'll see how they structure it. If done correctly, they're getting a great player. If not, they'll have a ton of dead space after 3-4 years. Snyder has proven to be fairly good manipulating the cap, though, I believe.
