  1. Not a big deal. The Redskins don't have a second round pick anyway, so you're off the hook for a while. :D Ha sounds good and good pick by the way. I would have gone with a tackle as well Yeah, like I said, it was a OT or a LB that they'd need and the LBs weren't overly impressive for a top 15 pick. And I really, really like Oher's potential. I think he's a good deal at that spot.

  3. This pick would make me sad, since it would pretty much assure Erik Ainge of not getting a chance at the job. I'm still holding out the (slimmest) hope that the Jets stick with the three QBs they have now and Ainge beats out Brett Ratliff and Kellen Clemens. Drafting Sanchez makes sense, though.
  4. That's it. What's the point of having a Shilling if he's just going to put up a 5 ERA? His aura doesn't get to pitch. If we were giving him a big contract I would agree with this, but bringing him in on a fairly cheap, one-year deal couldn't hurt. If he sucks in the minors during rehab, cut him - don't give him a chance to post a 5 ERA in the majors at that point. But if he can come back healthy and pitch well, it could turn out to be a good deal. I just don't see a lot of risk here.
  5. The Titans are in talks with former Steeler wide receiver Nate Washington. I hope they get this done - I really don't expect them to chase a Housh, Boldin, etc. so Washington is probably the best of the "non-elites." Washington is only going to be 26 next year and finished with 631 receiving yards - 15.8 yards per reception. Washington and a WR in the top two picks in the draft would be a solid offseason.
  6. I don't know that they have a great chance at winning the Central, but what team in that division really stands out as stellar? Maybe the Indians? Tigers if they can put it all together? If you're going to make a run at a division, the Central is probably the easiest (save, perhaps, for the NL West). Plus, Cruz is only 30 and should have a couple more years before he starts preparing to decline.
  7. Oh I agree completely. I'd love Nomar as he'd give them some power off the bench - something they desperately need.
  8. The Eagles have now officially dumped Lito Sheppard for a fifth round pick this year and a conditional pick in 2010. Sheppard is a Jet. This part of the story is interesting, though:
  9. Yeah, Cutler's a much better QB than Cassel. That would have been a stupid trade by the Broncos. Maybe the Titans will bring him in. . . .
  10. With now word from rchap and the 24 hours passed, I guess I'll make the Redskins' pick. Washington needs tackles (Samuels and Jansen are on their last legs) as well as an outside linebacker to replace Marcus Washington. I don't think the LBs are worth drafting here, so the likelihood is they'll trade down and try to get a 2nd round pick. Since we can't do that, I'll focus on protecting Jason Campbell. So, with the 13th pick in the draft, the Washington Redskins select Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss. OMC and the Saints are now on the clock.
  11. And they've announced the compensation:
  12. If it had been just Cassel that the Chiefs got, I might agree with you. But considering they also got Vrabel and have the ability to deal Thigpen for something of some value (my guess would be a third or fourth rounder if Rosenfels brought a fourth), is not a (even slightly) better QB, veteran LB and fourth round pick not more valuable than a slightly worse QB and a second? If it's a third they can get for Thigpen, then it's definitely a very good deal.
  13. Add Cassell and then send off Thigpen to (somewhat) replace the pick you surrender? Really good move for the Chiefs. I am surprised so many people think this is a good move for the Chiefs. Cassell is moderate upgrade over Thigpen, who was pretty good last season on a really bad team. So the Chiefs gave up the 35th pick for an unproven QB who played with a good O-Line and excellent WR's last season. To boot, Cassell's cap figure will probably more than Thigpen and the 35th pick combined. Meanwhile the Pats now have two picks in the 2nd Rnd, clear money and get younger. I think it's a good move for both. The Pats had to trade Cassel and got a pretty decent return for a guy without a lot of experience that they had to move. And Thigpen wasn't pretty good. A QB rating of 76 with a completion percentage around 54% with 18 TDs and 12 INTs isn't much to be impressed with. Obviously, the team wasn't very good, but he did have Dwayne Bowe to throw to. Cassel, who admittedly had better weapons, had a QB rating 13 points higher, threw three more TDs with one less pick and completed almost 10% more of his passes. I think both will improve, but I think Cassel's better now. Cassel has also had better coaching than Thigpen, meaning he should be farther along in his development. I should add I don't dislike Thigpen, I just think Cassel's a better bet to develop into a good NFL QB. And I think overlooking adding a veteran like Vrabel to a young team can't be overlooked.

  15. Here's the link on ESPN.com. It doesn't yet say what the Chiefs gave up, though.
  16. Defense, defense, defense for the Broncos in this draft, I'd say.
  17. Cushing might be a tad slow at 4.7, but he's athletic and very strong for a LB. I like him, but I see your concerns as well.
  18. Eh, I don't see why not. Just make sure it doesn't happen again.
  19. I like Cushing quite a bit and, while I thought a DE was needed, I didn't think Tyson Jackson was significantly better than guys like Robert Ayers and Michael Johnson who may be available early in the second round. The dropoff from Cushing to Clint Sintim and Clay Matthews is greater, I think.
  20. That sucks EhDubya. Do you at least like the pick? :)
  21. nm Denver and MPC are now on the clock and I PMd MPC.
  22. If EhDubya doesn't pick by 11 a.m. (EST), I'll go ahead and make the Bills' selection myself. Hopefully it will get moving after that.
  23. Yeah, it's hard to keep everybody around when their picks come up.
  24. I PM'd him at around 11:30 (est) this morning. He hasn't checked it yet, hopefully he will at some point soon. I've put it at around 24 hours per pick since everybody wanted a slower pace during the weekend, but I thought it'd be too confusing to have two different amounts of time to make picks. Should we shorten the time some?
