  1. Thereabouts. I'd probably guess he'll rank around average this year, adjust, and be +5 next year... provided those numbers are correct. I don't have my new Fielding Bible yet. I would have thought slightly above average, but that sounds fairly accurate. Thanks.
  2. It's way, way, way too early to start this up. Give it til mid May, at least. Maybe June 1.
  3. My answer would be because he has awful range for a centerfielder, but your mileage may vary. Thanks.
  4. They have Fukudome about +13 in RF last year, and -13 in CF over about 15 games. That's *really* awful for 15 games. How would a +13 in RF translate to CF, on average? Not too good, I would assume, but you know how far that gets you. The -13 is prorated for a full season, sorry if that wasn't clear. It has him -2.5 over about 15 games, which is much worse than I originally said(not reading correctly today), but heavily based on last year(-2.2 to -0.3 in about the same time). As for translation, I imagine +13 in RF translates to at least several runs above average in CF, but I don't know the exactitudes. If memory serves, the approximate translation from CF to LF is 10 runs. RF would be a bit less than that. So that'd make him average in CF then?
  5. In need of some cornerback depth and with no real steals sitting around anywhere else, the Patriots choose to go with a highly athletic, high upside player here. So, with the 34th pick in the draft, the Patriots select CB/S Sean Smith from Utah. Make that Mike Aller and the Browns are now on the clock. I PMd him.
  6. This. Looks like I'll be bored out of my mind at work again today. And I've got class tonight so I'll miss the first few innings. If baseball was meant to be played at night, there would be enough light in which to do so. 1:20 games at Wrigley are how it's supposed to be. It's kind of weird. I'm an ultra-purist on some things, but yet I'm in favor of things like interleague play. CUBS are 5-1 at night and 3-3 during the day, and you want to stand on tradition ??? Plus, I pretty much only get to watch night games (except on weekends). The more night games, the better.
  7. At this point? How about since he's been a Cub. I always said that if a situation arises where a small vehicle might impede a runner between two of the bases, Gathright might be a good guy to have around. Other than that......... I won't disagree with that. I guess I meant more in the eyes of management. I assume (as TT noted) they saw him as a defensive replacement when they picked him up. But if he's not going to be used even in that capacity now (for example, he wasn't last night), then I'm not sure how they can justify keeping him around. I mean, he's not even getting onto the field while they are working with a short bench because of Bradley. If Gathright isn't on the 25 for defensive purposes, just get rid of him and bring up Fox. If you have an emergency in the OF Miles can fill in until Fuld gets called up. I think they originally envisioned Gathright to fill the role that Pie has in recent years - defensive replacement and pinch runner. That said, he's obviously not doing it right now.
  8. They have Fukudome about +13 in RF last year, and -13 in CF over about 15 games. That's *really* awful for 15 games. How would a +13 in RF translate to CF, on average? Not too good, I would assume, but you know how far that gets you. Fielding metrics are highly flawed measures, however. Why do they have Fukudome so low?
  9. You picked who I would have picked. How doe something happen EVERY TIME it's my turn to pick? I was watching the board specifically waiting for my turn, and somehow missed it. Hey, at least I'm getting your picks right I guess. :D
  10. I'm way too honest. You definitely are too honest. :D But you are also right and I made the change.
  11. In spite of his awesome catches, I would have figured Reed would be average or so. Maybe that's as a right fielder, though.
  12. The Packers did it, didn't they? I don't know how they did it or how reproducable it is, but it seems like it would be in the realm of possibility. Their system was set-up in the 1920's. My guess is MLB would be heavily against such a stock sale. Good point, I didn't think about that.

  14. Yeah, AI took Duke Robinson last time in this spot and he's still here, so I see no reason not to go with him again. Though I think either Unger or Mack are a better value and both can play guard. So, the Steelers finish up the first round by selecting G Duke Robinson from Oklahoma. Cro Magnon and the Lions are once again on the clock. I'll PM him.
  15. Including Fukudome and Johnson? You're a harsh critic.
  16. but who is to say that it couldn't be expanded? i'm pretty sure that there are more than 200,000 cubs fans who wouldn't want to own a piece of the team. or that the price of one share could be higher than $125. both numbers could be adjusted. my point is that ricketts just going after big money investors when he could open up a very large infusion of cash by doing the same thing on a greater scale with a very loyal fanbase as well as big money investors seems kind of short-sighted to me. think of it this way- if ricketts opens up the possibilities to the fanbase and they come through in a big way, those big money investors could get more money squeezed out of them by way of the fewer opportunities to invest in the team. this plan is purely hypothetical, but it's one i think would work really well. That's a good point. I wonder how the Packers have theirs set up.
  17. Oh yeah, AI and the Steelers are on the clock. I PMd him.
  18. What the heck is a DC? Is that supposed to be DB? Apparently. He's a cornerback, so maybe it stands for defensive corner? Or it might be a typo. That's got to be a typo for DB. That would be the most logical solution.
  19. No, he meant NPC. Not Pitching, Calfzilla. :D Any other nerds read that and think "Non-Player Character"? Is that a D&D reference? General role-playing video game term. I always thought it was non-playable character, but I may just not know what I'm talking about.
  20. Get rid of Gathright and bring up Fox. Gathright isn't getting any playing time because of Reed Johnson, and we need some RH power off the bench. Trade for Patton's rights. Send him down to the minors. Bring up Fox. Patton would have to clear waivers for that to happen. And the Rockies would probably want far too much for him. Unless they get very good value in a trade, they have little incentive to agree to a trade.
  21. Problem is, he needs 5-10 investors to put forth $25 million each, according to the article. Your plan would cover just one of the investors.
  22. What the heck is a DC? Is that supposed to be DB? Apparently. He's a cornerback, so maybe it stands for defensive corner? Or it might be a typo.
  23. I feel like I've read other things. Explosive with the ball yes, but prone to the drop. Just a few scouting reports made me feel like he'd be a similar player to Hester overall. Not what we're really looking for in the 2nd round. I want to get someone who is big and physical for us to compliment Hester. Problem is, after Britt, Nicks and DHB there's not really very many big wide receivers in the draft. The best after them is probably Ramses Barden from Cal Poly SLO (I think that's where he's from, some small California school) and middle of the second might be a bit of a reach for him. He fits your description almost perfectly, though. After Barden, Marko Mitchell from Nevada and Patrick Turner from USC would be the guys you'd want if you specifically wanted a big receiver. And both of them are probably 4th-5th type guys. Yeah, if Britt isn't there I might think about passing on a WR in the 2nd round. Then again, while I do feel like Barden is a 3rd rounder, he won't be there at 99. Would it be worth taking him in the 2nd if he was the only "big" WR left? If the Chicago coaches are willing to give him time to develop, I could see him being worth the value. He's got a ton of potential, but being a small school guy he's got some development to go through. That said, it'd probably be best if they really want Barden to trade down a few slots and try to get another later round pick as well. Late second round (probably 20 or later) would be decent value for Barden, I think. Plus it'd give you an extra fifth rounder or so.

  25. I was totally impressed with Luigs when he fought Terrance Cody to a standstill last yr. One of the few games in which Cody wasn't a "big" factor in. After that game, I knew Luigs will be a very good NFL center. Any center who is as dominant as Luigs was in the SEC will likely be a good NFL player. As offensively challenged as the SEC is, the defensive lines are very stout (except Tennessee, we suck).
