If you have to take the 8th or 9th best player at a position that early in the draft, you're probably reaching. They still need help in other places. If there is a run on receivers, and offensive lineman start to slip, I would still like to see them take somebody to provide further depth, and insurance against the very significant possibility that Orlando Pace doesn't last the season, let alone into next season. Agreed. And actually, unless one of the top 6 WRs is on the board (Britt, Nicks, or Harvin are most likely to fall to 49), then they should NOT pick a WR. I like Iglesias out of OU a lot, but not at 49. I think a WR with more upside will be there at 99 anyway. And like you said, I'd rather get the 2nd best FS, 5th best DE, 3rd best DT or 5th best OL, over the #8-9 WR. What about Murphy? He's a guy with very solid physical skills who should be there. I think Louis Murphy would be a solid value at 49.
