  1. VY to Britt touchdown!!! Great drive by Vince and a little hook-up of the future, if you will. Tied at 7.
  2. Vince has looked good so far tonight. Can't say that much about the rest of the team, though.
  3. Yeah, I picked up the Lions D in two leagues. Ouch. I considered it. I've been floating from one defense to the next the last several weeks, looking for vulnerable offenses. And for the most part I've been burned. Tennessee getting the two pick-6's in the last three minutes of their game last week was the exception. I've been doing a decent job to this point. I've got two leagues where I'm playing matchups each week and I've done decently (including having Tennessee's D last week in both). I thought this week would be a pretty good bet despite the still-developing Lion defense, but apparently not. The problem is when I grab the defense of a team that has a mediocre offense. Because inevitably their crappy QB will throw picks and put the defense in awful situations. But it really is a crapshoot. I went with Philly's defense last night and it turned out to be a terrible play. Go figure. Staying with them at home against Washington next week though. That should be a good matchup. Yeah, I usually try to find defenses that don't have awful offenses coupled with them, but that doesn't always work out.
  4. Well yeah, they've got way too much talent to play like that. I wouldn't be surprised if they're a little Jekyl and Hyde based on whether or not their opponents can handle their pressure D. They should run roughshod over the SEC though. They've always been wildly hot and cold under Pearl. That's especially why you can't put any stock in the DePaul game alone - they go from awful to awesome overnight all the time. The only real trouble I think they'll have in the SEC this year is Kentucky. The Wildcats have a ton of great young players, but Tennessee will have the edge of being more experienced while not significantly (though noticeably) less talented. The pressure D could definitely give the young Wildcats some problems. I'm really hoping this team can get over that Sweet 16 hump. Two of the past three years we've been knocked out in that round and I'd like to see at least an Elite Eight appearance.

  6. I don't know that much about Purdue, but Tennessee has been shooting lights out from outside so far - only 51% from inside the arc, but 47% from outside it. They also run the usual Bruce Pearl style - fast, heavy pressure and trying to force turnovers and get quick shots. I haven't seen much from them this year, but from listening on the radio and from talk around the program, they're playing much faster than last year. Scotty Hopson has been the star so far, shooting 59% from the field and 63% beyond the arc. Tyler Smith and Cameron Tatum have been quite good from the field as well. No true point guard, though, (but Melvin Goins might become that) and the inside guys aren't huge. Anyone that only beats DePaul by 4 points can't be that good. Purdue should handle them. That was after demolishing two other teams by an average of 47.7 points. I don't know how good this Tennessee team will be – better than last year for sure, I think – but one tough game in the third game of the year isn't time to say they're not that good a team. Purdue could blow them out or Tennessee could win, but neither will be because they beat DePaul by 4 points. If they play like they did against DePaul, they'll lose by 90. That game was heinous. Well sure, but that's not close to the best Tennessee can play. It's not indicative of the team Tennessee is this year.

Thanks, I haven't actually seen Purdue play yet this year either because nothing has been nationally televised. I don't think this game is either. Yeah, it's only regionally broadcast. Apparently on Fox College Sports, according to UT's website.

  10. Hartline will be out till the whatever bowl game they're in. They have Fresh. Morgan Newton starting at QB, who's been solid but not spectacular (5-1 as a starter). Thanks. I've heard good things about Newton, but didn't realize he was starting.
  11. people here would hate mariucci, he runs the most god awful vanilla conservative west coast scheme and once called shawn bryson "worth his weight in gold" [expletive] him I loved Shawn Bryson at UT.
  12. I've seen him rely too much on his arm strength as well. Take the interception on the last drive last night, for example, it looked like he was trying to overcompensate for the receiver not being open by just throwing it as hard as he could between two defenders. The ball then got tipped in the air, became a jump ball and the Eagles came down with it. Favre did that a lot early in his career as well, if I recall correctly.
  13. Or they think the Atlanta based bowl would pick the team based in that state? Don't they want the fans to travel and spend money in their town and stay in their hotels, etc? If so, they'd likely take Tennessee - which is just far enough away for some people to choose to at least spend the night before and after - over Georgia, whose fans can drive to the game on gameday. That said, I really don't see Kentucky getting an Outback Bowl bid and Tennessee getting a Music City bowl bid. The only chance of that happening, I think, is for Tennessee to lose (and maybe convincingly) to UK. A Tennessee loss to Kentucky could happen, but even if it did, Tennessee travels better than UK, is a "bigger name" in football circles and has the potential for more fans to show up due to the Monte/Tampa area tie. Kentucky to the Outback is extremely unlikely. UT or Auburn (or even Georgia) would be picked first. If UK finishes 2nd in the SEC East by beating UT on Sat., I can't see any reason how UK doesn't go to the Outback at 8-4 (4-4). I was thinking they'd be 7-5 (one game better than UT). Assuming a UK win, at 8-4 I could see them getting an Outback bowl bid over UT. The winner Saturday will probably go to the Outback and the loser will likely go to the Chick-Fil-A or Music City bowl. As for the game itself, I'm expecting a good game. Especially since it'll be in Lexington. Monte and the UT defense will need to contain Randall Cobb and it'll be interesting to see how the UT offense attacks Kentucky's defense. Our linebacking corps has been decimated, so slowing down Cobb/Locke will be tough. I haven't watched much UK football the past couple of weeks, is Hartline back starting? Cobb had been running quite a bit at QB in whichever the last game I watched was and I think I remember Hartline being hurt, but I'm not sure.

  15. No one that wouldn't cost you a small fortune for. This Cubs team isn't in a position to trade a lot of their farm talent for someone like Granderson. I would just sign Cameron and hope you get a major league player that is serviceable for Bradley. This team probably isn't going to be in a position to win it this coming year anyway, so why continue the endless cycle of emptying the farm for guys who aren't good enough to turn the team around. Billy Wagner probably wouldn't be a small fortune (especially in terms of years), but while there are some very good closer options, they're all likely to be very expensive.

  17. Big game tonight for the Titans. Gotta keep winning to keep the slim playoff hopes alive and a win over Houston would pull us to within a game of them. The Ravens and Jets losing both put us closer to the playoff picture (assuming a win tonight).
  18. No. . ect.... Oh, by everyone I thought you meant more than three people. There were also lots of people that thought the Brettsiah would save the Vikings. There were others(like me) that thought he would be an improvement, but not by much. He has clearly helped the team a lot, but it's not like everyone expected him to ruin the Vikings. If you're talking about this board he wasn't far off. The Bears fans were almost unanimous. Most thought he sucked and talked about how great it would be to watch him throw picks to the Bears. The others thought it wouldn't be an upgrade. There were a few in the minority that thought it would be a slight upgrade. Caballo and I were arguing the same points in every discussion. Except he thought Favre would be even better than I did and I think I'm the only Vikings fan on here. None of those quotes say he'll make the Vikings worse. Just that he won't be that huge an upgrade. He has been a huge upgrade, but I don't remember all that many people (if any) saying he would clearly make them a worse team.
  19. . ect.... Have to do it because of all the back and forth all offseason. And it might not last if Favre gets hurt soon. Favre- 69.7% Cutler- 61.7% Yards per attempt Favre-8.0 Cutler- 6.6 TD/INT Favre- 21/3 Cutler 15/18 QB Rating Favre- 112.1 Cutler- 74.5 Cutler is throwing for 4 yards more per game on 7 more attempts per game. Favre has been sacked once more than Jay. Favre has been really good. I'm interested to see if he tails off at all in the second half of the year.
  20. I've wondered if a field goal team would have had time to run nearly half the field, get on the field, set up and be ready to snap the ball all in the time it takes for the refs to re-spot the ball. I tend to doubt that they could have been ready to snap it on the "ready for play" signal. That said, there should have been a play ready to run from that spot if they weren't going to try to get the field goal unit out there.
  21. fangraphs' money charts are nonsense. I wouldn't say nonsense, but they don't mean everything. They seem pretty accurate in this situation, though.
  22. According to Fangraphs, Howry was worth $12.1 million in his time with the Cubs. He was paid $12 million. Eyre wasn't worth his contract according to Fangraphs. Hawkins was worth $3.8 million his first year, and was paid $3 million. He wasn't worth what he was paid the next. So one deal worked out, one didn't and one worked out for a while.
  23. Howry and Eyre both pitched well for the Cubs in the first couple of years. Latroy was good as long as he wasn't closing. That said, I'm not a fan of the deal for Grabow.
  24. Notes of interest: Ronnie Brown is out for the year. JaMarcus Russell has been benched. Bruce Gradkowski will start. The Bills have contacted Mike Shanahan about their vacant head coaching position. Ryan Fitzpatrick is now the Bills' starter.
  25. that about sums it up. I wonder who we could get to fill the position. Kevin Wilson, Gus Malzahn, Charlie Strong? Charlie Strong is long overdue for a head coaching position.
