  1. Should have drafted Brady Quinn. Or maybe not. I'd be interested to see how Quinn would have done in a better organization than Cleveland. We'll see if McDaniels can turn him around.
  2. Their interest would be that Soriano is cheaper than Wells and has been more productive throughout his career. And, as I pointed out earlier, Soriano's 2009 numbers were still better than 2 of the past 3 years for Vernon Wells.
  3. Ginn to the 49ers.
  4. SpongeWorthy and the Bucs are on the clock. I PMd him.
  5. Very good value for Dunlap here, I think. sneakypower and the Lions are on the clock. I PMd him.
  6. mul21 and the Rams are on the clock to start the second round. I PMd him.
  7. OMC and the Saints are on the clock. I PMd him.
  8. Dolphins are shopping Ted Ginn. I would like the Titans to look into Ginn as a kick returner.
  9. CCP and Exile are on the clock for the Colts' pick. I PMd them.
  10. Even with the awful year last year, Soriano's 2009 was better than 2 of the past 3 years for Wells. Soriano has posted OPS' of .726, .876 and .897 the past three years. Wells has posted OPS' of .711, .840 and .706. Wells has had two really good seasons (.909 OPS in 2003 and .899 OPS in 2006) that have really helped his career numbers. Besides those two years, he's been a .760-.800 OPS guy. I'd rather take the chance that Soriano – the significantly better hitter throughout his career – rebounds from one bad year than that Wells rebounds from 2 out of 3 bad years.
  11. Those players alone would account for $102 million (not counting raises to Jeter, Fielder and Crawford – none of which are under contract for next year). I'm using 2010 salaries for all those three of those guys and could easily see that number jump to $110-$115 million per year. It'd be hard for the Cubs, under the current budget, to put a team around those guys. No matter who the people in charge are. Unless you mean you want the Steinbrenners as owners. That could make it a possibility. :D
  12. hawkeyecub and the Vikings are on the clock. I PMd him.
  13. jersey cubs fan and the Jets are on the clock. I PMd him.
  14. weis21 and the Chargers are on the clock. I PMd him.
  15. Yeah, there'd be a ton of trades the way this mock has gone. vance and shnsajax are on the clock for the Cowboys' pick. I PMd them.
  16. If Wells couldn't play LF, we could put Byrd in LF and Wells in CF. Lots of options in the OF with Byrd able to play all 3 positions, Colvin (3), Fukudome (2), Wells (2), and Nady (2). We still only marginally (at best) get better after the trade and yet are paying more money. I don't see the value in it. You know what you have in Soriano, but Wells is the unknown (after wrist surgery). I'm not saying it would be a great trade, but at least Wells will get within 10 feet of the wall. Obviously putting "Soriano" and "great trade" in the same sentence is ridiculous. Has the wrist been bothering him his entire career? Because, if I recall correctly, he's only really had one really good season. If you're convinced Soriano will be awful for the duration of the contract, this trade could make sense for us. But I'm not convinced of that.
  17. CubbieBum and the Cardinals are on the clock. I PMd him.
  18. that is the silver lining. hopefully lou goes with him. Mully and Hanley talked with Ricketts on the show this this morning. One thing I found especially disturbing is when the asked him about Lous future, he said it was up to Jim (Hendry). This leads me to believe that not only will Jim be sticking around, but Lou as well, if he chooses. I don't think it means anything. Ricketts likely hasn't made a decision yet and, thus, is speaking in terms of current operating procedure.
  19. WrigleyField 22 and the Ravens are on the clock. I PMd him.
  20. We don't need an escape goat. That said, I wouldn't mind adding a guy named Vern even if he did worse and had a worse contract. Vern. I like it. Verne Lundquist might not hold up for an entire season, but he's a pretty good Vern.
  21. I watch Legend of the Seeker, but I'm weird.
  23. Both are signed through 2014. Wells has an opt-out clause in his contract after 2011, though.
  24. For what it's worth: Soriano LF UZR/150: 5.7 Wells RF UZR/150: 6.8 (-5.7 in CF, he's never played left) I'd rather keep Soriano. No since in adding a player who's unlikely to be an improvement and take on extra money.
