  1. He turned down millions from overseas to play for Cal. Wonder how this one ends? Turning down a 5yr multi-million dollar deal (which likely means under 1 mil per year or else semantics would've had it at 1 mil or higher) as well as a 2 yr. deal based on dollar potential is probably a wise decision playing 2 years of college ball and entering the draft rather than an extended contract overseas with a reduced contract.
  2. UK just rec'd a commit from Turkish PF Enes Kanter, who according to Rivals would've been a top 25 recruit had he been on the radar last Fall. While UK will definitely lose Wall, Cousins, Patterson and possiblly Bledsoe or even Orton, everything will hinge on Brandon Knight as the next one and done star PG. I think it's likely UK will get Knight and KU will get Selby.
  3. The only thing worth noting is now that KU has been upset, UK clearly has the advantage of being the most talented team left. Unfort., they are also one of the youngest. (Fwiw, I still have them losing to WV)
  4. Sorry about that... With a baby on the way and my dad being rushed to the hospital every other week (including Sat.), I haven't been online much.
  5. Any play at the plate obviously involves the 3rd base coach or running thru the sign as far as poor decisions with being out at the plate which basically eliminates most runner aggressiveness in regards to the plate. I don't see the big deal about this... If you're against them being aggressive at the plate, this helps your cause. It's ST as runners are working in technique for better jumps/rounding bases, reading pitchers, & measuring the depth when the OF'ers get to the ball (without in-depth reports on minor leaguers). On top of that, in front of their evaluators they're making poor decisions in meaningless games possibly hurting their chances of being advanced or having the green light once the reg. season starts. There is no better way to become a station to station team than run yourself into outs early on espec. with someone like Piniella. With that said, I'd rather have a player that needs to be toned down rather than one that needs to be motivated by a manager to become more aggressive.
  6. While the Browns need help at most positions on both sides of the ball, they still don't feel confident enough in Quinn with his accuracy issues. After looking at Joe Haden and Dez Bryant.... The Cleveland Browns select Jimmy Clausen-QB-Notre Dame.
  7. Each player has been wildly inconsistent, Lopez 2 years was released of DFA'd by Washington and deservingly so. Fontenot was an offensive bust year and Baker is still an unknown quantity despite the offensive numbers of '09. Defensively, Lopez is basically avg. has above arm strength for 2B and despite being quicker as far as foot speed than Fontenot doesn't have the instincts and therefore lacks the range of Fontenot. Is it possible that Fontenot/Baker outproduce Lopez? Sure, each guy has been up and down. But, I'd bet that the roster spot saved with one starting 2B as well as the increased possibility of offensive gain of Lopez outweighs whatevere defensive advantage Fontenot brings. Personally, I think Baker is worst of the bunch defensively.
  8. IIRC, Orie was rushed to the majors pretty quickly as far as not seeing many ABs above High-A. He bounced around the minors for many years & while he some bad luck hurt him as far as his initial shot, he did have other chances to prove himself to other organizations and for whatever reason couldn't make it work.
  9. He'll be better than the dynamic duo of Fontenot and Baker.
  10. Late-inning defensive replacement is more about perception than reality. Minus Soriano, any defensive difference between the other 3 and Fuld isn't likely worth much and if Soriano shows anything with the bat, losing him in the lineup for Fuld isn't worth the defensive switch. Knowing the Cubs and how Piniella operates, they'll likely list Fuld as a defensive upgrade over everyone but Byrd and feel the need to micro-manage and have Fuld be the pinch-runner. It's unfort. but it'll be the way they operate until Lou gets pissy about no LH'ed bat on the bench & they send down the 12th reliever.
  11. With Byrd and Fukudome, they have 2 OF'ers capable of playing CF so in that regard they don't need him as the back-up CF'er. With that said, they probably could use a late inning defensive replacement/pinch-runner but with the fact they have only 13 position guys and the 4 middle infielders, I agree they don't have room for Fuld. I say let Tracy, Hoffpauir, and Synder battle it out for the 25th roster spot. Of course, they could've never had this problem by having one legit starting 2B instead of trying to patch it with two utility guys and carrying 14 position guys.
  12. If the Cubs are facing a RH'ed starter, the best LH'ed bat off the bench will be... Sam Fuld Hopefully Lou won't use the L/R matchups if Nady is still on the bench waiting a lefty specialist later in the game over a 5th OF'er like Fuld. 4 middle infielders out of 13 is just awful roster composition from an offensive standpoint.
  13. That might one of the longer strides I've seen.
  14. KU is a better team than UK. Similar as far as talent but KU just has a better flow as far as team play and that experience gives them that edge.
  15. I agree with that most of them are unlikeable although I think talent alone will carry them into the Elite 8 and then the lack of experience will haunt them.
  16. I'm sorry, he'd be in the 2011 draft, not this year. Have you heard of this kid? Or is it too early to talk 2011 guys? Personally, I've never heard of him. According to a 2011 draft list, he is the 3rd rated HS player in the state of KS and it's too early as far as whether or not he'll go in whichever round as he'll be a junior. Vance, his real name is Derek.
  17. Didnt show up on any PG draft list from KS.
  18. I wouldn't call Illini fans on here homers either, the "prick" part is very accurate though. =)
  19. Sanders will be the OC but I'm sure the hand will be in the cookie jar.
  20. Not that anyone cares (nor do I blame anyone) but UK's class finished 49th according to Rivals, good for 11th in the SEC. Phillips' 1st class as HC and 49 is right around the avg. for UK in the last 5 years as far as rankings. Phillips paid his dues as far as waiting for Brooks to retire but he isn't the hire I would've liked as he'll cont. UK throughout the next 4 years in several 5-7, 6-6, and 7-5 seasons while it would've been worth the risk to bring in someone fresh and try something new.
  21. Well he's a physical specimen and probably will be playing some role next year. From what I've read he may struggle blocking next year as most true freshman do. But he'll probably slot in as the 2nd or 3rd TE and will be part of the offense next year. That's to be expected, he's from a real small conference/school out here in the Fox Valley and was often the largest player on the field. I doubt many of the DEs he blocked were over 200LBs compared to the big 10.
  22. Yep. Iowa probably has their best class since 2005 even though they're ranked 40 by Rivals. Four 4-star guys, four 2-star guys (one is a kicker) and 13 3-star guys. 7 of those 13 have a 5.7 Rivals ranking which is the highest possible 3-star. More importantly than stars they beat out a lot of good schools. On the topic though, I've never gotten the whole appeal of signing day. At least not since the development of sites like Rivals and Scout. There are a few surprises but over 90% stay with their decision. It's just guys signing a letter and faxing it in. I got to see CJ play FB at Johnsburg since he was a Soph., he's a real good kid, hell of a pitcher too. If he decided to play baseball his Jun. and senior years he would've been one of the best baseball players in state as well.
  23. What about the north (particularly northeast) Louisiana area? UL-Monroe has a RH'er by the name of James Jones, who is pretty good and will likely drafted in the mid rounds (15-25). La Tech has a left hander by the name of Mike Jefferson that should go between rounds 3-5 and might be worth the drive down I-20 to Ruston. They also have an OF'er by the name of Devon Dageford that merits watching if go see them. Not much as far as HS or Juco in that area to watch for.
  24. Raleigh? NC State has a Junior RH'er by the name of Jake Buchanan that should go in the 1st ten rounds as well as former Cubs draftee Kyle Wilson and Russell Wilson who also plays FB. Ray Cotilla is someone that is worth watching as a late draftee. As far as HS'ers in that area: Blair Betts out of Athens Drive has a D-I signing at Indiana and the best players from Cary, NC are Grant Shambley (OF) out of Green Hope who is committed to Wake Forest, Brandon Wilson (RHP) out of Cary Academy who is committed to Campbell, and Adam Boghosian (P/OF) out of Green Hope who is committed to UNC Greensboro.
