  1. Sure, Marshall contributed to Will Carroll's book "Saving the Pitcher". I've been meaning to read that. Is Will Carroll "blackballed" as much as Marshall is claimed to be? Not having either one hired, at the very least, as a consultant to a ML ballclub just seems shortsighted and somewhat arrogant. You'd think that trying to be proactive with a ballclubs players would actually cost a team less in the long-run due to medical expenses. Will Carroll isn't MLB material in the same regards as someone like Marshall or Tom House. Will Carroll, more or less, reports the findings rather than creating the model that provides the data he reports as he did in the book. He basically rec'd the findings from Marshall and to a larger extend House as well as various scientific studies in regards to physics and proper mechanics. In short, I think there is a large degree of separation between Carroll and Marshall. Marshall has been ignored by MLB b/c he's considered to be a pompus rectum and that's a bad thing b/c he does provide thoughtful questions towards pitching.

  3. Know anyone involved in the Indy leagues with an open mind about this kind of thing? ;) No, it would require two things. Money and a manager with a very open mind. Those things are rare in the Indy Leagues. :)
  4. FTR, I find Dr. Marshall's work fascinating, but it so extreme, I think it would be better off using a test model on an Indy League team rather than trying it with teams in the minors, or even worse a ML staff. It is so far away from the norm, that there would need a test model.
  5. It depends... It could be a matter of short-arming the ball. Or... As long as his elbow stays above his shoulder in a "T" formation with his lead shoulder, as well as him having dynamic balance throughout it's fine. It could be natural for him to move the arm laterally away from his head to generate arm speed. You can't shot-put it out there w/any velocity.
  6. I'll take the risk of Prior of getting injured. Of course... He also knows nothing about a pitcher's fatigue level, like to when to pull when he's drained.
  7. Hard to imagine that he started as a C.
  8. If baseball consisted of only backup infielders and 5th OF'ers, he'd make the HoF.
  9. His injury last year was not related to his arm, but a knee is not be overlooked either, considering that's the base of a pitcher. Of course, Bedard has had TJS and has inconsistent mechanics along the way. Both teams are better off remaining in their current state.
  10. Deer had 25 HRs, 89 BBs, and had an OPS right at .700.
  11. If it was a straight Bedard for Zito trade, on paper it favors Balt., but Oakland would get the better deal as Zito would not do as well in Balt. and Bedard would do better in Oakland. Of course, Bedard is much cheaper and isn't close to FA unlike Zito.
  12. http://www.dcexaminer.com/articles/2005/12/25/columns_sports/jim_williams/001_col_williams.txt Nothing new... Many teams, the Cubs offering up Prior have the most resources. But...
  13. If Ozzie Smith was the standard to which all SS should be judged, you might have some what of a case. He wasn't good enough offensively and any consideration would likely be b/c of the team he played on rather than what he did.
  14. No, great story coming back from his surgery. Has the IP as well as the wins, but did not have the numbers to get in.
  15. I'd vote Larkin in... Larkin is better than Trammell, to the point where I'd vote Larkin in and say no to Tramell. Larkin had an EqA of .289 and his BRAA and FRAA were a combined 397, both are much higher than Trammell. Larkin had a higher OPS+ with almost 180 more SBs.
  16. No, I guess everyone who has an extended career is up for nomination.
  17. This was a tough one, but I voted no. 121+ career OPS, 2700 hits, 339 HRs.
  18. Voted no as well, great rate stats, didn't have enough time to accumulate the necc. figures to get into the HOF, he finished around 2200 hits and 220 HRs.
  19. Not much difference between Ripken and Trammell as far as rate stats, but I voted no. .273 EqA... 246 BRAA and FRAA combined. Good but not good enough.
  20. I think that was the most runs scored by a team since the '36 Yankees. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BSN/1894.shtml 1220 runs in 133 games.
  21. Griffey was also only a year away from FA, he signed that deal w/Cincy right after they traded for him, once he passed his physical. If Tejada was to be a FA after '06, the leverage would shift greatly towards the team looking to acquire him.
  22. I was disappointed by the Bears performance, Moose has had too many drops for someone who has been vocal w/Orton all year long. Part of the drop in numbers has been his many drops. Good to see Grossman take some hits. Defense didn't get much pressure w/the front four or on blitzes and missed too man tackles again. A 7 point win vs. GB is disappointing, especially with Longwell missing 2 just under 40 yds. But, the Bears have won the division and have a chance to go 6-0 in the division. Time to sit the starters.
  23. Oddly, I have never read The Hidden Game. Tim, I see Curve Ball more at local libraries than at Borders/B&N. I'm still about 30 books behind as far as what I have and what I haven't read. :x
  24. With the Giants and Pathers losing, a win today locks up the #2 seed behind Seattle and gets them the 1st round bye making the Minnesota game meaningless. That gives the Bears (like the Colts yesterday) the ability to rest the starters for most of the Minnesota game. That will be interesting with Grossman who will have only started only 7 games heading into the Minnesota game and needs as much experience as he can get. But, we all know about Rex. Personally, after the 1st quarter, I'd sit Grossman (Orton), Jones (Benson/Adrian), Moose (Berrian), Metcalf (Garza), and Miller or Tate (St. Clair) as well as Harris (Boone), Urlacher (Joe), M. Brown (Johnson), Briggs (Ayanbadejo) as well as getting R. Davis as a DB.
