    My keys to the game... Rogers will have to establish his change-up early. Weaver will have to get ahead with his FB early for strikes, Detroit has an aggressive approach so we'll see if Weaver if pitches backwards, which gets into my other point that Weaver will have to command his curve and slider.

    McLaren was the buffer between Lou and the players, he was the one who the players went to. Ichiro has been stated in the press as being the one who wanted McLaren back as he's one of the few still left on the M's roster. Bret Boone wanted him as a manager when Lou went to TB, Crawford in TB wanted McLaren after Lou again. I think him breaking away from Lou as well as returning to Seattle, I assume Hargrove won't be back after this year had alot to do with it. McLaren also played a big role in the strategic side for Piniella (I always believed that Piniella has been one of the better in-game managers in baseball and that McLaren played a key role).

    They need a back-up plan but, I don't know how Ichiro is considered part of the plan. They're comp. different hitters and play diff. positions. While Tejada is a very productive 3B, what would be the difference salary compared to losing the req'd players to get him?

    The main reason why the Cards rec'd good results from avg. pitchers was their ability to throw strikes and get ahead and more importantly, the Mets had an awful approach at the plate all series.

    To me, the power arms of the Tigers is the difference in the series. As far as setting up the pitching match-ups... Tigers can go either way, the Cards have a more difficult job of penciling their rotation to the benefit. IMO, the Cards would be better throwing Weaver and Carpenter on 3 days rest skipping a Reyes vs. Rogers as the likely Game 1 matchup.

    I think at this stage, I would lean more towards him starting out at Iowa, but a solid showing with Licey and Mesa next Spring could sway me. Of course, if the Cubs aren't sure he's ready now, they have to go into FA thinking they need to fill that spot.

    It's also been a weak NL in general that has been watched the AL go 8-0 in the last 2 WS series.

    With Lofton, you'd need a better 4th OF'er than what has been the norm over the last few years. I would go with Jose Cruz Jr. as a poss., b/c he should be cheaper and has done well vs. LH'ers.

    I hope not, not with Molina. 3-3 last night against molina eh? Not with Wright or Delgado and a new pitcher coming in. wright is not right though. definitely not with delgado up there. you'd wait for two outs then and send him with valentin up there? I could see that logic. I wouldn't want Valentin to leadoff an inning. I'd play if safe. Depending on whom covers 2B would dictate if I'd hit and run w/Wright with the way he's swinging with his behind.
