  1. yeah, i won't bitch about the cubs wasting millions on samardzija and other assorted major league players, but then all of a sudden having to obey slot money the year that a big piece to the puzzle is available in the draft. So who are you bitching at? I have no idea. Just bitching in general. It still seems ridiculous to me that the Cubs have to be handcuffed by money during this draft, when the actual budget for a draft is such a small part of the overall spending on the team. It seems to me that as long as the Trib owns the Cubs, they should operate like a large market team, and the next person coming in knows that they're buying a large market team. Every team is handcuffed by slotted amounts and each team goes beyond it at various times, MLB does frown upon it. I'm sure the Cubs heard about it from Selig.
  2. Blocking other bases isn't illegal, you're just more likely to get injured blocking 1st-3rd and most often tagging the base instead of the runner will get out unlike plays at the plate. Watching a C blocking the plate is a fun part of the game to watch when executed.
  3. From what I've heard on Parker, it sounds real good.
  4. Trading Murton at this stage is putting the cart before the horse as far as not getting rid of Barrett 1st. If they're intending on getting rid of Barrett, let Soto get the majority of the rookie growing pains while Blanco is on the roster. While Blanco's defensive skills are starting to decline (his footwork isn't as sharp and neither is his arm), his best asset to the team will be to work with Soto. He is a leader on that team and what better way to exploit that than having him work with a player with the tools to become an everyday starting C over time. I have no idea what the Cubs could get from the A's. Not too familiar with their system, but I agree with everythign you said. I couldn't come up with anything either, in the case of Barrett, I doubt they could get much for him. I assume Murton could net more, but the question is... Who does the Cubs want to get rid of more between him and Jones? That almost has to be Jones.

  6. According to who? It's all subjective, what one team sees another will see different and each team will then have seen him enough to form an educated opinion and yet be different despite all the years of scouting and innings watching them.
  7. Go back to pissing on yourself.
  8. He's ready to improve this team defensively and hopefully grow into a productive major leaguer with the bat. Stick him 7th everyday vs. both RH'ers and Lh'ers and let him develop. I hope Soto can do likewise at some point this Summer.
  9. Why would anyone be untouchable at this point? If a team asked about Lee, see what the offer is. Worst case scenario is them saying no.
  10. Neither are going to get you much at this point, Barrett was held on prob. one more year than he should've in hindsight. Z's a FA coming off a brawl while pitching poorly, he better turn it around if the value is close to what it would've been. You trade them to blow it up, I think there could be some good parts w/Z, just depends on a potential bidding war. No team right now would bid against itself.
  11. I thought the team was just fundamentally lacking upstairs, they're dumb enough to duke it out.
  12. The Cubs have given me many reasons to be ashamed to be a Cubs fan, this year has trumped everything so far.
  13. Drwe Stubbs & Sean Watson of Dayton. I might be there as well, despite the League being down this year.
  14. Pick one better than TB.
  15. you and them both. nice ab, aramis. Even though '02 sucked, I felt optimistic w/Hendry and a new manager as well as Prior, Z, etc. Now, I feel nada towards this team.
  16. I honestly don't care about this team anymore.
  17. you don't post much, do you? i've had a rather busy last few months traveling and i also just got engaged, but i think everything is settling down until next year! Congrats DR, any favs for the Scripps?
  18. I'm off to a 6-2 start with your team. :) I'm the Buck Showalter of Roadkill.
  19. Yeah, I think I'm at two teams (could be more). Navin and Adam, I took over for Kent for a little bit too before the HS baseball season started as well.
  20. I'm just an outsider looking in. :) Who did Adam inherit that team from.... Damn right.
  21. You're an overrated GM, IMO.
  22. I'm probably going to go ahead and buy MLB.TV... is Premium worth the extra money? well it seemed like half the time they would just tell me i couldn't watch the game unless i bought premium... so i eventually got it. now i can't even watch the game having bought it. What about the picture quality? And what did Barrett/DeRosa do that was so dumb?? Barrett extended his secondary lead way too far and picked off by a C with a great arm. Derosa decided to try and get to 3B despite the grounder being in front of him, which will get you thrown out 99 out of 100 times, espec. one like that. Two horrible decisions on the bases of many this year.
  23. He'll likely retire soon and it'll be his choice to do so w/Atlanta. As far as Logan White being similar to Wilken, that's not a bad thing, but White has been more involved with GM duties than Wilken.
