  1. Agreed, they have too many round pegs for square holes as well as Lou's managerial style so far as reasons why it would be unwise to trade an extra OF'er at this stage.
  2. What's wrong with 4 OF'ers? They finally have some flexibility and a better bat off the bench than previous years. I could understand doing so to make room for Pie, but doing so w/out calling up Pie doesn't accomplish anything. If you trade one of them now, Pagan assumes a larger role. Ideally, Pagan should be a 5th OF'er/late defensive CF'er replacement since he's the best defensive CF'er on the roster (he prob. only equates to an avg. defensive Cf'er).
  3. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Michael%2520Bowden&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=476601 Just promoted to AA. Congrats to him, he's definitely deserving of it. If you want perspective on his numbers, look at the rest of their staff and well as how well theit hitters have been doing. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/external/brandedstats/t998.html?cid=491&lid=110&t=t_ibp&sid=milb
  4. Agreed, although that drop-off isn't a lock to occur. You play to his strengths, so far, he has shown to be most comfortable hitting leadoff. To maximize his value, I would suggest putting a higher OBP in the 8th spot. Even if Izturis is out there, maybe put him 7th and Murton 8th. It makes that scenario much easier if Theriot is at SS.
  5. Given that hitting is often a series of hot and cold stretches for most hitters, wouldn't it be wise to keep Murton out there for the time being while he's the hottest hand of the two?
  6. Top 5 from Perfect Game... 1. David Price LHP Jr. L-L 6-5 215 Vanderbilt U. Murfreesboro, Tenn. Dodgers '04 (19) 8-26-85 Identified as a possible No. 1 overall pick when a freshman, he has cinched the deal with a combination of three-pitch stuff, command and makeup. 2. Rick Porcello RHP Sr. R-R 6-5 190 Seton Hall Prep Chester, N.J. (North Carolina ) 12-27-88 Porcello has done nothing to diminish his status as the top prep pitching prospect in the country, regularly throwing in the mid-90s late into games. 3. Josh Vitters 3B Sr. R-R 6-3 190 Cypress HS Anaheim, Calif. (Arizona State ) 8-27-89 Vitters is the consensus pick as the top high school hitter in this year’s class and is talked about as high as the third (Cubs) or fourth (Pirates) pick. 4. Matt Wieters C Jr. B-R 6-4 205 Georgia Tech Goose Creek , S.C. Never drafted 5-21-86 A dynamic two-way player as a sophomore, Wieters has focused his attention more on catching this year but hasn’t produced the numbers expected. 5. Ross Detwiler LHP Jr. R-L 6-4 180 Missouri State U. Wentzville, Mo. Never drafted 3-6-86 His team has crumbled around him, but the tall, lean lefty has showcased an electric arm with a fastball in the 92-95 mph and a filthy breaking ball.
  7. It was a rental car, it couldn't have been in there too long. Unless Enterprise is offering new services. I'm not saying it's impossible or even improbable that he was high at the time, but the mere presence far from guarantees it. He had a lot of weed in there, doesn't it follow from everyone's logic that he must be smoking all of it on that car ride. He may have smoked it earlier in the night, he may have not wanted to keep it around his hotel/apartment, he may have just got it from somebody at Shannon's. I'm not even one to say wait until everything is proven before assuming things, as I assumed he was drunk as soon as I heard the accident repot, but I'm not convinced he was high. I don't think it makes a difference either way if he was high. He'd probably still be alive if he was only "high".
  8. Whos to say the pipe wasnt packed already? Believe me, it can be done if the person wants it, and not that difficulty involved. Why would someone leave a pipe packed for a period of time? i think mine's packed right now and i havent used it in at least 18 hours Slacker.
  9. Whos to say the pipe wasnt packed already? Believe me, it can be done if the person wants it, and not that difficulty involved. Why would someone leave a pipe packed for a period of time? So they don't have to do it later? There's a reason why it is sealed tightly.

  11. Going down the freeway at a good rate of speed. Drunk. Packing the pipe. The other hand holding the pipe. Then, the other reaching for a lighter. Then trying to light it. It wouldn't happen while driving.
  12. Given the situation, he probably wasn't high at the time. Simply b/c of the timeframe of leaving the stadium, heading out to Shannon's, and then going to a diff. spot, he would've had to light up in the car. They'll prob. find pot in his system just not from that night. People light up in cars all the time, as well as in the parking lot before pulling out. I don't know many people who keep weed on them who don't take every chance to smoke it. It was in his rental car, that he had just gotten a couple days before. In my experience, the people who have weed with them in a car, will not hesitate to smoke, especially once they're already buzzed. I would be surprised if he hadn't smoke some. That would be the only way, he couldn't light it while driving.

  14. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/laworder/story/8020B48D713D6B02862572D1004FD1D8?OpenDocument Assumptions confirmed as far as being under the influence. Disappointing that someone could make such a mistake yet fortunate no one else was involved.
  15. I honestly believe that TB will likely be a better team than the Cubs in about 5 years despite a much tougher division.
  16. I remember hearing basicly the same things about Harvey when he was drafted. I never heard anything remotely like that regarding Harvey. I heard people say they'd never seen anybody hit the ball as hard or far as Harvey, in terms of power. But every report I recall noted that he was not close to being a polished hitter, and would need to make a lot of adjustments to his stroke. Cubs hoped he'd figure that out; oops. The "hand-eye coordination and uncanny ability to make adjustments", nobody said that about Harvey. It was all about raw power, strong arm, coming off a knee injury, and being an overall very good athlete.
  17. They likely won't remain constant but I think at the end of the year (unless injured) you'll see ARod among the league leaders in HRs and Beckett among the league leaders in wins, a main reason why they'll be up there is b/c of the hot start. I think Milwaukee will be at the top or near the top for most of the year b/c of this start and b/c overall they have some talent on that club.
  18. He seems to have more of a pause at the top of his delivery ala Matsuzaka than I remember.
  19. It's early but they're still 9 games over .500, regardless if it's April or Sept. that might win the division when all is said & done. If you're counting on Milwaukee playing less than .500 the rest of the way moreso than Cubs playing good enough to catch them, there's the flaw w/the Cubs. Whoever gets to 90 wins will win the NLC, Milwaukee has given themselves the best chance.
  20. A decent sized winning or losing streak would significantly alter those numbers though. The best thing to say right now is that it's still early. The Crew had a great month. Maybe they'll have more great months, and maybe they won't. They don't have to have any great months from here on out, they could play .500 from here on out and equal the win total of what I expected to win or come close to winning this division. They've set themselves up nicely in a bland division, unlike Cincy of last year, they have the talent to con't to win.
  21. It's a fair question at this stage, if Mil. plays .500 the rest of the way, they'll be around 85-86 wins. Personally, I think they will play better than .500 from here on out, but obviously not at their current pace, For the Cubs, they'll have to go 74-62 from here on out or play 54% ball (88 wins in a 162 game season) to get to 86 wins.
  22. Aka, the best bar ever in Richmond, KY.
  23. Those Indy league hitters will have no idea how to hit his FB, if everything I've heard about the late life on his FB being true, they'll be in for a surprise.
  24. That's different than termination though. They can fine or suspend someone for poor conduct, but terminating a contract is a diff. issue for a MLB team compared to a standard worker b/c of that public good translating from public image concern to a greater demand for production (wins) from external sources of income (fans).
  25. You're talking apples and oranges as far as trying to apply your work standards with professional athletes. Who here has been tested here for steroids? As far as the legality of the situation, that should remain constant regardless whether or not he or she is a pro athlete but isn't fair to do so given how different the situation is between a pro athlete and the general public beyond the law. Yes, there is a double standard there and the differences in occupation there demand that there should be. Fwiw, I would not be terminated if I was driving drunk w/out any injuries to myself or others.
