  1. Would anyone else sign Bonds to play LF next year?
  2. No way, man. The Cardinals are hurting, it's not the Cardinals team that went to the WS two years ago. The Cubs have had far more ridiculously embarrassing seasons, moments, decades. Hell, we're working on a century.
  3. And due to its price it should also guarantee some holes remain unfilled elsewhere. BTW, have all you folks forgotten about Glendon? Have you penciled him into the rotation? Yes...in Iowa.
  4. That will change when we get the ManRam.
  5. Cut Novoa and I agree.
  6. I am just very concerned about rushing Pie. I don't give a crap about Pagan, but I don't wanna screw up Pie. I trust the Iowa hitting instructors more than the MLB ones.
  7. He does K a ton, though.
  8. I'm gonna go out on a limb here...
  9. I knew that was coming.
  10. Maybe once Guillermo Mota puts up a 5+ ERA next year for the Cubs. I think Eyre and Howry have been very good. Not worth the money, but very good. Dempster, guh. Hendry just isn't very good at building a bullpen. Of course, his manager doesn't help him out much either.
  11. Exactly. It seems as though with this offseason, all the moves are tied together, more so than before. If JH were to have Pagan in CF and, say, Cedeno at 2B and Izzy at short? Well, we'll suck even more.
  12. Can we please just get rid of Novoa? For anything?
  13. My hatred for the Cardinals is surpassed only by the early 90s Knicks teams. The Astros, while lame, have never really bugged me as much.
  14. Could Angel Pagan be the stop gap CF? He's never going to be anything special, but he could put up a a better OPS than Pierre. He's also young and there's a good chance he'll improve. Then, we could leave Pie at Iowa. If he's solid there, then call him up, and put Pagan on the bench or trade him. It would allow us to use money on one of the other glaring needs of the team. LF Murton C Barrett 1B Lee 3B Ramirez 2B Soriano RF Jones CF Pagan SS Izturis If we could dump Izzy for somebody, I'd be thrilled. Just an idea.
  15. It's cool that a guy who comes into the game with AC/DC playing and then proceeds to strike guys out with pitches thrown in the 70s is the all time saves leader.
  16. If it improves the team, then go for it. If you can make the team better, why wouldn't you do it?
  17. If he keeps his walk rate at a similar level, I'd be thrilled to have him, especially since he would get to play a ton of games at NL Central parks. If you sign Soriano, it means you could use EPatt in a trade. Just something to consider.
  18. He broke his leg...by colliding with Austin Kearns. Two players, who seem to always be injured, finally almost make it through a complete season.
  19. Soriano is not going to sign a 3/45 deal. To get him on a three-year contract, think major overpaying....3/57 might get it done. Padilla will sign either a longer term deal or one larger than 4 million. At minimum on Padilla, think 3/16. I doubt Cameron is available that cheaply as well. Well then I guess the Cubs will have to pay more.
  20. 1B: Lee 2B: Soriano (3/45) 3B: Ramirez SS: Tejada LF: Jones RF: Pie CF: Cameron (2/12) C: Barrett Trade Izturis, Murton, Patterson and Marshall for Tejada Bench: Soto Theriot Restovich Moore Cedeno SP: Zambrano SP: Hill SP: Prior SP: Miller SP: Padilla (2/8) RP: Marmol RP: Ohman RP: Eyre RP: Wuertz RP: Dempster RP: Mateo RP: Howry
  21. It's a win and a half by itself. So would it be correct in saying that Adam Dunn will cost the team @ 1.5 wins over the course of the season with his defense? In 2005 his VORP was a remarkable 45. This year his winshare is 21 and his RC is 98. Call me crazy but, that makes him an elite LFer. 45 is good, but by no means remarkable. Derrek Lee had a VORP over 90 last year, that's remarkable.
  22. Baseball, unlike any other team sport, has no time limit. I believe that makes baseball stats unique and difficult to compare to other sports.
  23. What do they gain besides making people "feel better?" It's completely arbritary as to whether or not "hustling" would actually change plays significantly and often enough to alter a team's season or even the game being played at the time. Are you just really, really lazy or something? I know "hustling" and "little things" are often not difference makers, but they absolutely cannot hurt a team. I realize Dunn, Ramirez and, well, Ramirez are who they are, but would it hurt them to run a little harder to first? To show they're teamates that they're giving their all? Hustling, like aggressive, can hurt a team if it's not applied smartly. Some might call trying to stretch a single into a double a hustle play, but it's only hustle if you're safe. Otherwise it's stupidly running into outs. Baseball is not a balls to the wall sport. Nah, that's true. But I would put that under stupidity. Different category all together.
  24. And thanks for not being the Cubs PBP dude. He's a great 2nd baseman, but an atrocious announcer.
