  1. The trick is to just never be wrong.
  2. What's his contract status? I know he was traded to Oakland, but did he sign an extension or is he arbitration eligible? He could be another outfield possibility to look at, and one that I wouldn't mind having.
  3. I like the idea of Durham, I had never really considered him. I don't like Lowell to replace Ramirez and certainly don't like Matthews. GM Jr is bad as a leadoff man, 260 BA .334 OBP .416 SLG career numbers, plus he's 32. Pierre would be better than him. The .334 OBP and the .416 slugging would be better than Pierre. And if he plays like he did this year... Matthews' .334 OBP is worse than Pierre's .351 career, I fail to see how Matthews is better in that regard. As far as slugging, yeah Matthews has him but I'm willing to sacrifice 40 points in slugging for 17 points of OBP with a leadoff hitter, especially when Pierre kills him in BA, .302 (Pierre) and .260 (GM). Plus, at 32 the chances of him repeating are slim to none. Especially given the fact that the only three times he's topped a .350 OBP in his career excluding this year, he's played in 23, 109, and 87 games. Finally, he's going to cost some money coming off this kind of year. I see no benefit in acquiring him. I like Juan Pierre, but I think his days of hitting well over .300 are in the past. That being said, I'm not advocating Sarge Jr., because, as you said, I don't think he'll solve our leadoff issues either. I guess I just wouldn't be too dissapointed if we could be guranteed of a .334 OBP batting leadoff for an entire season.

  5. If they got A. Jones, what do we do with our own Jock Jones? Leave him in right. We could use his power and not suffer for his lack of OBP if we have Durham/Murton/Lee/Ramirez/Jones/Barrett batting at the top of the order easily. Heck, Jones would be a fantastic #7 hitter if you could pull that off. Oh I see. Yeah, I could live with Jones batting seventh. I guess I misread your post and thought you would move Murton to Right regardless of other moves. That lineup would be kick ass, and the defense would be much improved.
  6. new scapegoat alert, new scapegoat alert!!!! They've got the internet on computers now?
  7. Mr. Smith, I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Wesson.
  8. Boston is the 11th largest metropolitan area at 4.5 million. As for the rest of the season; it's a long Winter ahead, the Pats look mediocre this year, the Celtics stink, the Bruins play but no one will care when the Sox start back. People will show up the rest of the season and look forward to 6 months from now. How do you define metropolitan area? Any area big enough will get you a lot of people. Trust me, having lived there, it's tiny. It has a smaller fan base than most cities with teams, they simply go to more games... because there's nothing else to do... And fenway... trust me, you have to be die-hard to say you enjoy watching a game there... I've lived there too, the metro is pretty big its just more spaced out and less dense then Chicago. You also have to consider that all of New England has adopted the Red Sox as their team. That includes all of New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, and half of Connecticut. Right. NESN reaches a TON of people.
  9. If they got A. Jones, what do we do with our own Jock Jones?
  10. Wrong. We know from Joe Buck that baseball's best fans live in St. Louis, with the better ones in East St. Louis I'm sure.
  11. Of course we are all aware of where VORP places on JH's stat sheet. Let's sign Jeff Suppan!
  12. Don't worry, we'll just move Barrett to left field and get a defensive catcher. World Series champs in '07.
  13. Or at least enough to offer almost enough, like we did for Furcal and Beltran. Right! We always place 2nd or 3rd in the Free Agent hunt every year. Unless Jeff Blauser is out there.
  14. Horse, I'm glad you brought back your name.
  15. Or at least enough to offer almost enough, like we did for Furcal and Beltran.
  16. I don't really think that his lineup is possible, but I wouldn't be all that dissapointed with it, and it's probably good enough to win the division. I for one would just like to see Hendry address real problems.
  17. Players like Bynum should never start. Bynum should be the last option off the bench, possibly filling in late in the game as a defensive sub (like Boston did with Pokey Reese) or possibly if you need speed on the bases, again, late in the game. I don't necessarily dislike having Bynum on the team, assuming the rest of the bench isn't made up of other Bynums-by-different-names. The Cubs have been doing this now for a few years in a row, collecting 25th men. Let's see. Macias, Damian Jackson, Enrique Wilson, Neifi!, Rey Ordonez, Freddy GoFaster Bynum, it's pretty sad.
  18. As bad as our offense has been this season, I can't help but be hopeful for 07 simply because Neifi! is gone. If Caesar is our only garbage bat, and bats eighth, the offense is not as far from being decent as I thought. What I would do: Sign Cameron. Sign Loretta. Loretta Murton Lee Ramirez Barrett Jones Cameron Izzy Both the offense and the defense would benefit from signing those two.
  19. Chainsaw Al Dunlap?
  20. I think Hendry loves the K! We have Jock and we wanted Soriano.
  21. He was available last year via a trade and instead we traded for Pierre. Cameron never hits for a high average, but consistently has an isolated patience around .100, so his OBPs are normally pretty solid. His slugging is usally above average for a CFer as well. Add in his excellent defense in CF and you have yourself a very good player. If we don't resign Pierre, I suggest we get Cameron. He would immediately become our best outfielder. I realize our pitching is a question mark, but I am more concerned with this offense. It could potentially be even worse next year.
  22. This has probably been posted, but what do you guys think Soriano will get this off season?
  23. Personally, I would try to sign Mike Cameron to a two year deal, assuming Pierre is gone. Then I would go the platoon route in the other outfield spots, possibly using Pie. And Loretta wouldn't be bad for a one-two year deal. Murton Loretta Lee Ramirez Cameron Jones Barrett The Tsar Cameron would bring solid CF defense and a big boost in slugging and OBP. I think with those two signings alone, the offense is significantly better.
