  1. Alright!! I'm pretty impressed with the "Big Sweet."
  2. http://img493.imageshack.us/img493/4715/newsyawn5op.jpg
  3. Bulls @ Houston. Anybody else get a bit misty seeing Luther Head again? Man, http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/439/illinilutherhead3kw.jpg That was so sweet. Bulls are looking sharp tonight.
  4. That and the Curse.
  5. Good point. Hmm... Could you imagine a Murton, Pena, Abreu/Giles outfield? Pena would be one of the top producing CF in the league I bet, and he's only 24!
  6. According to BP, he played 46 games at CF in 2004, and was not a butcher.
  7. Im tempted, only because the guy hit 19 HRs in 311 ABs. He obviously needs to walk more, but the power is obviously there. Also, there are some interesting names on his PECOTA comparisons: Albert Belle, Dale Murphy and Dave Winfield most notably. I think putting him in CF could be an interesting move.
  8. Pal, I have 400 posts on a message board, that's what you know of me. Leave it alone. Exactly the reason I'd guess he asked more information about you. Whatever. If I was a janitor my opinion on the Cubs is less insightful than yours? Nah, but I bet the Chubbs could you use for (wait, hold their attention, hold it!) MOP-UP DUTY!!! BOOYAH.
  9. Pal, I have 400 posts on a message board, that's what you know of me as a person. Leave it alone. Hahah, that's great! What's with all the FeartheCubs hate lately?
  10. I like all the powder blue jerseys (Cards, Phils, Brewers, Expos). My favorite Cubs away jersey was either the '80s one, with the Blue top and the white pants, with the Cubs logo on the left breast that said Cubs, not just the C, or the gray one with the red stripe under Chicago. And bring back the pullovers, I don't like the buttons.
  11. If this amount of money were needed to bring Furcal to Wrigley, Hendry would go to Plan B and get Castillo from the Marlins and put Cedeno at SS. Egad! That should be plan A!
  12. We're the Cubs not the Royals. A budget is a budget. What do you have a degree in? (if you don't mind my asking) Knock that off. Who cares what his degree is in. Thanks - sometimes I think the goal here is to discredit other posters to move up some invisible food chain instead of talking Cubs baseball. Things have been getting a little dicey around here lately, havent they?
  13. Sometimes overpaying is okay. I think BJ Ryan is a player a team can overspend for. He is just awesome. However I think the Jays have a few other spots that they should have addressed before going after a closer.
  14. I don't understand why the Cubs love to waste millions of dollars on mediocre reserves when they could just play talented youngins like Sing for far less and probably equal production. It isn't just the Cubs that are guilty of this and it blows my mind.
  15. Get over yourself and your armchair opinions. What is the difference between opinion and armchair opinion? The latter is more comfortable.
  16. To quote BP: "Pure speed unadulterated by any talent." That being said he could be a decent fifth outfielder, but I wouldn't want him to start for the Cubs.
  17. FWIW, is there a Free agent that the Mets are not in contact with? It seems like they are after everyone.
  18. Oh I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he'll be terrible. Again.
  19. Yeah, our farm system is slim for sure. Not that i'm complaining but the Cards like to deal what little prospects they do have for established big league talent. Why are you here and how are you contributing to this discussion about whether the Cubs could possibly acquire Bobby Abreu without giving up Felix Pie? If you want to toot the Cardinals horn, please, go someplace else. I thought he was just trying to get a fair assessment of Felix Pie? Go easy man.
  20. Looking at the year by year stats for Eyre and Howry, what is it that is there that inspires confidence in you that they're especially predictable? Well let's assume we actually sign Howry. His career ERA is 3.58. Over the past 125 and change innings he has walked 28 batters and has given up only 9 home runs. Is that worth 4 million? Probably not in a perfect market. But I like Howry's control and think overspending for him is not a bad idea, AS LONG AS WE IMPROVE THE OFFENSE.
  21. Just a question, but when is it okay to overspend. The Red Sox needed a closer for the 2004 season and they overspent for Keith Foulke, even providing him an extra year. People saw that as a good move. He had a great season, followed up by a disaster. Boston also needed a short stop, so they paid Renteria 40 mil. Again, not a great signing, but they were paying for the best. In short, I think sometimes teams need to pay more to get more, and not rely on cheaper, more unpredictable alternatives.
  22. Great post and I agree with you. I just hope Hendry has an idea for RF named Abreu.
  23. Maybe he misspoke? If we sign Howry, then you have to figure Hendry is gonna make some trades involving our bullpen arms right?
  24. I'm all for obtaining Abreu. I think the trade proposed by DKWG is a good move. Then we trade Walker for Castillo, keep Cedeno at short, sign Bradley for CF: Castillo Murton Lee Abreu Aram Bradley Barrett Cedeno cookin with grease!
