  1. Guys. It's only a couple of at-bats. And a career in the minors...and last year... You're over-reacting to every little single thing. It's one game of 162. It's a couple of AB's over the course of a season. Yes, it's annoying. But calling for his release is a pretty serious over-reaction, don't you think? He's a back-up SS/2B. It's not like he's starting. Well today he is starting. Because of a injury to DeRosa, yes?

  4. HR's will happen. If the Cubs are able to play .500 ball with the offense struggling for power, that's actually a good sign.
  5. Oh how I long for the days when you were just a lurker. :D I was looking for just the right snarky comment to post about that....glad someone made one... :P I almost made one myself. :D
  6. I guess you don't understand the business of baseball then. Just because all of you think Cuban is the solution and want him to buy to Cubs, it doesn't mean that MLB and the owners agree. He has no chance. Do you have inside information? If so please share. If not, your post is very presumptive. First off, anyone with baseball knowledge knows it is common sense that Cuban would not be allowed to purchase the club with the way he behaves. Second, yes I do have inside information for reason which I cannot reveal...like I like being employed. Are you a spy for the government? I love how so many new posters have such amazing and mysterious sources of knowledge. RedIvyCub's been a member since late 2003. Just because a member doesn't post a lot doesn't mean they don't have insight, information, or sources. For example, in the pre-NSBB days, I was a long-time lurker on cubs.com and (sometimes) espn. I had somewhere around 250 posts total in several years.
  7. MacPhail was wrong to do that, in my opinion. Sullivan's stories both before and after have really been pretty bad. I think the Cubs media relations folks could have made a case for removing him. I have to tell you, from a professional perspective, MacPhail and Hendry should never be interfacing with a reporter or editor in such a fashion. That's why you have a media relations staff. I don't know Sharon Panazzo, of course, but that's who should be dealing with such a situation. If there's a problem from the Cubs' perspective on how Sullivan covers the Cubs, it's perfectly acceptable for her to sit down and talk with McGrath about it.
  8. As close as it was, I'm not sure he would really know. And the fact that someone didn't argue a call doesn't persuade me that the call was correct. I can't think of one time when a bad call was made in a close game, let alone a close game in the playoffs, and the victim of the bad call didn't argue it. Even if Giambi thought it was a tie, I'm sure he would've disputed it. If we're talking a matter of less than a second, would he really know if his foot was down before the glove hit his leg? He had to know the ball beat him, so maybe he assumed (as many people do) that the tag beat him too. I don't know - but to say "he didn't argue, so the call must have been right" is just not very persuasive. okay, well maybe you'll find "he admitted to a reporter that he was out" more persuasive. Jeter bribed him.
  9. May 28: Cardinals outfielder Jim Edmonds shows his age and declining physical abilities against the Rockies by making a sliding, game-ending catch on a lazy fly ball hit three feet to his right. June 19: Tired of being excluded from all the players-only meetings, the Royals' coaches hold a meeting in manager Buddy Bell's office, but keep the door open to the locker room and loudly talk about how they wish they could manage players who were actually good at baseball. July 26: Barry Bonds hits his record-breaking 756th career home run at home against the Braves, with Hank Aaron in attendance. Aaron meets Bonds at home plate, hugs him, and then drops him with a knee to the crotch.
  10. I don't think he's going to get the chance to pound Grossman. I see Turner coming out with a huge, heavy dose of Benson in this game to prove a point starting the '07 season. And I see Turner instituting more shotgun, too. He's said he will look into that. I think he's going to do it. Shotgun doesn't prevent pressure. But well-executed screens and draws can. Even better is the ability of the line and the running back to absorb the pressure and give the QB the opportunity to exploit the inevitable openings in the defense.
  11. When is the Trib finally going to put a different reporter on the Cubs beat? They used to rotate them regularly, but we've been saddled with him for a heck of a long time.
  12. I wouldn't mind having Lidge. I think he'll rebound and be just fine. How about we give them Wade Miller for him.
  13. Once the decision to go with Miller was made, I agree, you need to give him a chance. Heck, I hope he does well. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't agree with the decision or (what little I know of) the decision-making process the Cubs have in place.
  14. fixed Re-fixed. Captain Optimism here is happy to give the benefit of the doubt to choads like Miller and Marquis but not Prior? Amusing. I think the Cubs have three very solid starting pitchers and two question marks. I have serious doubts that they will be able to contend with these two jokers 2/5ths of the time. The question isn't whether Guzman will be better than either of these two guys this year, it's whether he'll do as good a job as either of these two guys, while developing himself for 2008. If it is likely that he will do as good a job (and I think he will), then the right move is to go with Guzman.
  15. That is seriously wrong. Funny. But wrong.
  16. I think that Miller is just a placeholder until Prior returns.
  17. Yes, I bet if Matt Murton had pitched the Astros would have been lucky to get a hit. That's true. He'd have walked them all.
  18. Probably true. The Cubs have just 4 HR this year and have given up 9. But they are also struggling with OBP. It's .313 overall, and sub .300 in each of the past 3 games. and against middling to bad pitchers. very, very frustrating And yet so very, very familiar.
  19. Except that apparently Murton's now in a 50/50 platoon with Floyd. They've both started 4 games, and have about the same number of AB. Just saying, you know, since mentioning the fact that Murton's in a platoon is hyperbolic ranting.
  20. Derrek Lee just has amazing abilities. http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3867/801/400/leeforce.jpg Yahoo has him at 11 for 34 with a .324 avg, 0 walks, and a .314 OBP.. :-k Given that Derrek Lee can apparently levitate his bat... I would agree that he has amazing abilities.
  21. Executed. We need something worse than that. You're right. Here's a start.
