  1. This is a lovely post. Too horribly true to contemplate, but a lovely post. Dusty has pitched many guys into surgery. I hope they relieve him of his duties before we see another one. Tonight I feel very, very bad for Chad Fox. And very, very angry at Dusty.
  2. Knowing that we have a crunch makes it even more critical that we jettison guys with little or no upside on the 40-man. I grant that the value the Cubs see is different than what we see, however, I see a need to clean house and preserve our prospects.
  3. You can't say this is second guessing, cos right before that move was made I had already thought of pulling Burnitz in a double switch but replacing him with Corey to play CF and sliding Hairston over to RF, but that was too much to hope for since Dusty has never been that creative. You don't pull Burnitz, you pull Perez, insert Patterson and move Hairston to second. The double switch then puts your best defensive player into the game, and gives you the best defensive team possible. It also gives you AB's from the best offensive options you have available.
  4. Read the books. You'll like them.
  5. and amazingily enough the Cubs have scored 7 runs by the 3rd inning. Lets try to make sure that the moves are poor before we discount them Here's a fun story. One time I got really, really drunk, and I went outside. I saw a car that had a Cardinals bumper sticker on it. I hate the Cardinals so I walked over and put a bomb in it and blew it up because it seemed like a good idea to me. To my surprise, it turned out that Osama bin Laden was hiding in the trunk and I had killed him! I was immediately lauded as a hero. To Carlos Beltran!!
  6. Yet another reason to like Will Carroll. As if I needed anymore...
  7. Does that mean Hairston is leading off? That would be my guess. If Dusty is playing Dubois for Hollandsworth as has been assumed, my guess is that Walker will be sitting.
  8. What does one run below average mean? It means that in 10 games Macias played at 3rd, he cost the team 1 run compared to an "average" fielder. This year they project him with 37 games at third, and being three runs below average in that time. Kelton, anyone? Not sure if you were asking, but in his last stint at 3rd base, 29 games in '03 for Iowa, BP has him 6 runs below average. Thank you. Just curious... I wonder what the combined defensive and offensive numbers would be for Kelton vs. Macias. Of course, I'm pretty biased; I think Macias should be summarily executed if Hendry won't release him. Just kidding about the release part.

  10. I think the whole righty-lefty thing is way overblown. I don't want to see Remlinger used as a LOOGY; I want to see him used as an effective reliever. I have no problem at all with him pitching the full inning. In fact, I thought it was a good move. Remlinger looked *very* good.
  11. 9 pitches. 3 outs. 2 men enter, 1 man leaves.

  13. Mark, thanks for the update. I can tell you that I will be living vicariously through you, Hoops, Serena, Ernie and the rest of the NSBB crowd who is at the convention!
  14. Congrats Hoops!! This is a well-deserved honor, and I'm glad to see a small thank you for all your contributions -- never think they aren't valued here by all of us! Tim and mlpeel, great gesture! Way to go all!
  15. Heh, and here you have 550+ posts. :D She must not mind intelligent analysis. I guess this proves it... there is a braindrain on cubs.com. For the record, I was brinoch on the other board as well. I didn't post all that much, however.
  16. Please do! I think its one of the attractive things about the site. I hate to leave some of the other posters behind, but the Cubs.com forum has gotten out of hand. Winning clearly doesn't agree with some Cubs fans. Hopefully, we can keep things positive. Anyway, I was brinoch on the old forum and I'm brinoch on this forum. My real name is Doug Moore, and I live in Bethesda, Maryland. In case there are other East coast Cubbies on the forum, my wife and I will be at the Cubs-Orioles game on June 16th! brinoch
