  1. I know. He gives up walks and we score lots. A nice combo.
  2. in the baseball offseason? they show the Bulls. College basketball I buy, the Bulls and the NBA? That's not a sport.
  3. My wife just asked me: "What is it that WGN shows in the offseason that makes it 'America's #1 Sportsstation'?" A good question.
  4. Recall my post early in this thread. I am serious. Keep it civil, keep it clean. Last warning for the night.
  5. I suspect that they are full of it. Methinks that Hendry is quite happy with Dempster.
  6. Prior is really getting squeezed. Burnitz also didn't take a very good route to the ball -- might have cost the Cubs a run.
  7. Before the game thread gets going, I'd like to remind everyone about Game Thread etiquette. Last night's thread got out of control more than once, and that kind of behavior is not acceptible. Consider this a pre-game warning. Violators will be ejected. Keep it clean, keep it civil, and have fun -- and hopefully we'll have another Cubs win. Premium Non-premium
  8. I'm re-opening this thread. Please keep it civil, and keep it on topic. Thanks all.
  9. Actually, Hendry has done this recently. Mientkiewicz from the Twins and Cabrera from the Expos were acquired and spun to the Red Sox for Nomar last season. In 2003, Hernandez from the Rockies was traded to the Pirates in the deal for Ramirez and Lofton.
  10. [peg knocker]Fear not. You aren't respected. We merely tolerate you.[/peg knocker] Ouch! And from a mod too. I think I may have to call upon the panel of experts for backup. :ninja: You pretty much asked for it. ;)
  11. Well, technically speaking, Dubois would count as one of our OF's. :P Yes, but we just added one. You can only play 3 OF and we have: Burnitz Hairston/Corey Hollandworth Gerut Grieve Murton Oh I agree. I was messing with you a little. I think this is a terrible move in and of itself. If it is a part of a larger move, then it may make sense. In the mean time, I will reserve judgment. Although, if it sends Mitre to AAA, at least it has the ancillary benefit of reducing the number of pitchers to a reasonable level.
  12. No, its bits and peices of information that have been peiced together in a logical manner to come to a conclusion. This, in science, is called a hypothesis. In the tearms we speak in now, it is speculation. Now, no doubt it has holes. but when you put it all together, it does make sense. It makes no sense at all. Why would Cinci actively seek out and desire a mediocre outfielder as part of this trade? Because the source said so. Vance is a highly respected member of this forum, and we have no reason to beleive what he says is untrue. I don't know that I'm respected....prolific maybe...but respected?!?! :P [peg knocker]Fear not. You aren't respected. We merely tolerate you.[/peg knocker]
  13. Well, technically speaking, Dubois would count as one of our OF's. :P
  14. Nice personal slam! If that constitutes a personal slam, then someone please kick me off the boards. I didn't attack a single poster. I merely feel it's the only mature and responsible way to judge a trade. Let's keep it civil, folks. We've all got plenty to discuss without getting into a debate over what is and isn't a slam. Roast -- I don't think badger's intention was to criticize anyone, and I didn't read it that way. Badger -- I can see how it could come across that way, from a different perspective. Still, no harm, and no foul. A simple miscommunication -- it happens a lot online, particularly in an intense conversation. That said, end it.
  15. It'd make sense if his splits weren't so extreme. His OPS against lefties this year is .197. 23 AB vs. lefties this year -- a rather small sample size. Now, the .613 OPS against lefties in 283 AB's over the least three years... that I'll buy.
  16. Derrek Lee's first full season: AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS .233/.318/.414/.732 What a pathetic loser. Yes but Derrek Lee is 29 (soon to be 30) We dont have 5 years for Dubois to develop. Wish him good luck. He will develop on a team that's rebuilding. And how do you propose to pay for a team with a pitching staff that will rapidly increase in cost as Prior and Zambrano head towards FA? Ramirez is getting a big boost, and we have Lee in a contract year next season. A team needs cheap production from somewhere. Right now, we're getting it from the pitching staff -- soon, we'll need to get it from somewhere on the field. That's just baseball economics. If you properly construct your team, you can easily integrate a rookie starter. See the Atlanta Braves and all the talent they developed from within. You merely need the fortitude to roll with the punches and the inevitable slumps.
  17. Is it me, or is Lopez quite possibly the slowest SS turning the DP? That's the second or third time tonight he's been extremely slow to first on the turn.
  18. Swinging bunt for a single by Murton... 4-5. Bwahahaha!
  19. And the Brewers have imploded... 9-2 in the 4th.
  20. Nice job there by Barrett. I've really liked his approach tonight.
