  1. Realistically, they need someone to just take charge in the back. It seems a lot of times the problem is piss poor communication among the defense, which leads to a break down. For example, on Panama's goal, three US players converged on the ball, leaving no one to cover any of the runners or provide backup. Simply awful. And don't get me started on the officiating. Wow, that was bad. Oh, and Ching needs to learn to put some effort into the game. Dude, everyone else is tired. Your job is to run your tail off and harass the heck out of the opposition defense so they can't organize. It's not hard.
  2. If you want to send a message to a player or team, you don't throw at his head. You throw at his butt. The goal isn't to injure or kill the guy, it's to let them know that you and your team are unhappy with their actions. Young's an ass.
  3. CT in this fight is like an aged, true-blue Cub fan: weighed down by years of blame, recrimination, and failure. That said, I voted for him.
  4. You assume someone else would sign him and put him on their ML roster. Even if that happened, it would save the Cubs however much money the other team was paying him. If his agent told him, "sorry, there's nothing out there, nobody wants a reliever with an ERA of over 10 who can't throw strikes to save his life" then he'd go to AAA. He wouldn't like it, but he would. If nobody wanted him, I don't know why he would go to Triple A. He would force the Cubs to either keep him in the majors or pay him to sit on his couch. Well, that's better than paying him to sit on the bench. If he isn't going to be used, he needs to be removed from the roster.
  5. They don't have to "convince" Floyd to be a bench player, they need to TELL him that. Floyd doesn't make playing time decisions; Lou does. Well, Lou needs to start making better ones. For all his talk, the vets get a lot of playing time. That's pretty much always been the case with Lou. He's almost as bad as Baker for having a veteran fetish.
  6. I would expect Rapada to be sent back down to Iowa. More than likely, he was only up as a precaution since Ohman worked so much Tuesday.
  7. A fine conundrum; I shall vote for the poster who provides entertainment, judicious thoughts and always remains positive, upbeat and never jumps to conclusions. Ergo: I pledge my support to UMFan83. ;)
  8. To demonstrate my open-mindedness and the inherent value of peace, love and upright contemplation, I voted for Derwood.
  9. but he likes soccer. -1 +1. I have to cancel out Derwood's unreasoned, illogical and immaterial hatred of the greatest sport known to humans, fish, and all other vertebrate orders.
  10. Are you going to post about how you like upsets in every thread? How is this about upsets, dear friend? I'm unconcerned about upsets. Indeed, I've supported the upright candidacies of such illustrious favorites as Pinghitter, Vance, and TT. No, upsets are irrelevant to me. My voting is strictly about right action, moral correctness, and ensuring that this Board's malfeasant influences are exposed and defeated. And, Banedon, having lived in Boise (and a mod, to boot), has had an extremely deleterious influence and must be opposed. I fooled the rest of them...how is it that you are unswayed? Boise is a well known den of evil. [ob]JC told me so. [/ob]
  11. IMB!, RocketSauce, Bob Sanders, Treeman....you're screwed but he's voting for the guy who started the raunchy hottest chick poll? come on! Irony is a wonderful literary device.

  13. I'm your first vote, Pinghitter/UK. But don't think that former 'UK' part of your username didn't weigh on me.
  14. Who votes for Raisin? You poor, mislead people. He lives in California -- and that should eliminate him just for starters. He follows the NBA. He actually thinks Tillman is a good CB. And, what the hell, half his posts are chit-chat nonsense about his bunions or corns or whatever it is he rambles on about. No, friends, Raisin is not a good candidate. I know that I am late for the party here, and he's at like 80%, but reconsider your actions. Not only is Raisin guilty of unpardonable sins like the above four, he's also a mod. Yes! A mod! You can't vote for a mod! I know that he's bringing undue pressure to bear, but don't fear: I will protect you from Raisin's threatening shenanigans. Granted, I'm not on the board 24/7 like Raisin is, but that notwithstanding, fear not the mighty shriveled grape, fear not his ridiculous posting habits and fear not his adherence to defending overrated football "players." There is no harm that can come to you from your rightful and correct opposition to this unqualified candidate. You have my protection and the protection provided by right-thinking, morally correct contemplation. In short, you'll have peace in our time should you oppose Raisin.
  15. Gotta stick with the goalie.
  16. Dudes, Banedon lived in Boise. Can't vote for him. Electron Blue, I don't know you, but you're my guy in this match-up.
  17. Indeed, I am. I hate voting in this one, but raw's my boy, so I gotta go with him. Dobs = best 15 seed ever. Yeah, I voted for Dobson myself. I'm with you, raw. I voted for Dobson, too. ;) Next up: Banedon.
  18. It's part of the anti-mod contingent -- which of course includes me. I'm all about messing with Jon. Just wait 'til I get a crack at Raisin. I mean Peanut. Or whatever.
  19. AP story is up at the Daily Herald: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp?id=318875
  20. Ya, looks like Z made first contact, but Barrett was the one who was initiating contact. Looks like Barrett was moving in to grab Z's arm when Z exploded.
  21. He's on pace for 400 AB, so it wouldn't take much to get up to 450 PA. As you said, if there's an injury to Murton, Jones or Soriano, or if Lou suddenly decides he needs Floyd hitting 4th everyday, then it becomes a scary issue. It's scary enough as it stands right now. Floyd needs to go.
  22. Personally, I'd dump Izturis, Jones, Eyre, and Howry as soon as I could -- for whatever I could -- and I'd be hot on the phone to move DeRosa and Floyd on June 15. Theriot replaces Izturis at SS with a call-up for Fontenot, Pie gets the call to replace Jones, and there are bullpen replacements a-plenty to be had either in the trades or from Iowa. Rapada comes to mind, for example. When DeRosa goes, bring up Patterson.
  23. Don't forget that Floyd's option becomes guaranteed with 100 games started or 425 plate appearances this season. He's on pace for what, 330 AB's -- maybe 350 PA if he's lucky? He only has 110 PA right now, so I think we're safe on that score. 100 GS is another story... he's started 25 games by my count (I could be wrong) with 111 games left in the season. If he starts 68% of the games over Murton, or if there is an injury to Soriano or Murton, he has a very good chance to make that. As things stand now, he's started about 50% of games.
  24. It probably wouldn't be all that tough to deal Dempster, frankly. Just look to a team with an injured/ineffective closer come late June. The only competition on the market is really Cordero -- and I'd be more wary of Cordero than Dempster. I'd look to deal Howry and Eyre to whoever wants them for virtually whatever I can get. It probably wouldn't be impossible to trade Jones, one of them, and a prospect for another large contract player.
