  1. Screw teaching. I'm here to prove how smart I am. When Cuban takes over the team and starts looking through the boards for his GM, you guys are the competition. I guess I'll have a leg up since I can ban you.
  2. That was a horrible decision -- almost certainly Lou let himself get talked into a really, really, really ridiculous decision. And now Z walks Big Tex.... awesome.
  3. Ye olde double play was a swell barn burner.
  4. He probably got a ton of emails about it.
  5. Maybe, but I don't think it hurts to get in touch with him. Also, I'm not as confident as some of you that it'll only be six weeks. He might be off the DL in six weeks, but I think that injury is going to linger and affect his bat. This isn't a wrist injury -- it's the hand, and very similar to Utley's last year. For further insight, here's what Will Carroll had to say on the injury:
  6. I exchanged emails with Will Carroll, asking how similar Soriano's HBP/injury was to Utley's last year, and he noted that it looked similar. I imagine that he'll offer a lot of insight over the next couple of days. As I recall, Utley had surgery and they put in a pin to stabilize it.
  7. I'd probably DH Geo, too. I'd give some thought to Soriano and Ramirez for a game or two each, as well (over all the Interleague games, not just the Toronto series).
  8. Seriously, how is it that Johnson still has a place on the USMNT roster? If you need someone to run around uselessly, pass the ball right back to midfielders, hit girlie headers, and generally bone an attack up, I'm your man. Heck, I can do a better job of boning the offense than can Johnson. But that's only because I'm NOT A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER. Loser.
  9. EJ is terrible. He needs never play for the MNT again.
  10. I was kind of hoping that the Cubs would draft Josh Fields -- depending on who was available of course -- so I'm intrigued by this pick. I really, really like the idea of a Lidge-type pick to augment the bullpen quickly, and Cashner could be that guy. Among Ascanio, Ceda and Cashner, that could be a real upgrade if there's a problem with Wuertz, Lieber, Howry or whoever.
  11. Given the Mariner pick of Fields at #20, it's pretty clear that they would have taken Cashner if we hadn't.
  12. Eddie Johnson was the absolute worst player on that field. Including the little kids during the introductions and anthems. I made my wife laugh with all the imprecations, curses, and abuse I hurled at his lazy, crappy behind. He is just awful.
  13. I can assure you that I'm merely brinoch and not a semi-famous personage, television writer or sports-blogger. Just a little Ace Ventura reference. No harm intended. All-right-y, then.

  15. Drop. It. Now.
  16. I'm holding my tongue. Out of line. So I should have said something? Should have said nothing. Come on, it's just good-natured teasing. Sorry if I didn't use an emoticon or something to soften the point. I didn't consider it "good-natured teasing". I considered it to be one of the numerous digs I've seen flying around the board for the last couple of weeks. Frankly, I've gotten really tired of the pot-shots and sniping, so please stop it.
  17. I thought if transfers stay academically eligible and graduate elsewhere it doesn't hurt the school. Or something like that. Am I wrong? The school still takes a ding under the APR for a transfer -- if a player transfers while ineligible, that's really bad for the school.
  18. Nothing is impossible, but I suspect that this would be an extremely heavy lift.
  19. I'm holding my tongue. Out of line.
  20. It don't matter, CT, 'cause we can win more. Still, it's more comfortable if the other teams lose. I like it when the division is good. It erases that stigma of, "yeah the Cubs are in first, but its in the lowly NL Central". Shows that the Cubs are the class act in a classy division. I would prefer the Cubs beat up on a crappy divison and win it easily. I would prefer the Cubs beat up on a good division and win it easily.
  21. All right everyone... let's settle down a bit. Can we all agree on a couple of points, perhaps? 1. Everyone is excited about Gallagher. 2. Congratulations to Sean and his family. 3. He's better than Marquis and Leiber.
