  1. What, exactly, is this ump's zone? Because it's all over the map.
  2. I suggested in another thread that if the Mets fall out of it, the Cubs should go after Beltran. It wouldn't surprise me at all if others had the same idea.
  3. Let's hire him as a pitching mechanics or bullpen or throwing or batting practice coach. Or any coach, really.
  4. Yeah, he really is comedy gold.
  5. I don't care about "strategy" but I do care about the 9 players on the field also taking their turn at the plate. The DH is stupid. If you play the field, you should have to bat.
  6. Yeah, Bavasi was really quite terrible.
  7. Rather than signing Floyd last season, the Cubs ought to simply have used Jones and Murton in a platoon in LF/RF and gone after another plus OF via FA or trade. Obviously things worked out differently, and I'm very happy with Kosuke, but the Floyd decision was pretty dumb.
  8. Yes, it would be fun to sweep both of them en route to the World Series.
  9. I don't want to jinx this but theres something that happens to Aramis every year that keep him from having the best season of his career. Don't you remember that you AREN'T ALLOWED to post anything related to injuries or jinxes?
  10. The Mets might actually be able to get something for Alou if they sent him to the American League. They aren't out of it, by any means, but if they do fall out of contention, I'd be trying to acquire Carlos Beltran.
  11. I really don't care that much about the Cardinals, or even worry about them. Let them keep winning if they can. Besides, the rivalry is good for both teams. The only thing I care about? Easy: 1. Making the playoffs. 2. Winning the National Pennant. 3. Winning the World Series.
  12. I really don't like most of the umpires, particularly the confrontational clowns. Replay would be a great addition to baseball. Heck, they could replay any play in less than a minute from a booth and transmit the correct call before most of those umpire conferences break up in any case. Getting the call right is more important than the egos of umpires and the "sanctity of the game."
  13. It should have been about 12 to -2.
  14. This might very well be Pedro's last season, and while still good, he's a shadow of his glory years. No way. I'd tandem start Gallagher/Marshall well before even considering Pedro. (Tandem starting them to conserve innings for Gallagher isn't a bad idea, now that I think about it.)
  15. I am only in favor of deals that actually help the Cubs. Any deal that includes Schneider or Ramon Hernandez will not help the Cubs. In fact, dealing Soto in such a situation would be a huge mistake because the downgrade from Soto to Schneider or whoever is going to be significantly greater than upgrading from DeRosa to Brian Roberts. The Cubs do not need a wholesale makeover. In fact, they would be probably be fine without any changes. They could, though, like any team, could use some help/upgrades. SP is obvious. Perhaps some BP help if the price is right -- though I think we're more than fine in the 'pen. CF is another option that would make sense.
  16. It's not the right now that I'm worried about. It's the next week/next month (or whenever they occur) dead arm/control struggles that Dempster and Gallagher will likely face as their cumulative innings pitched continues to grow. Short of an injury, Zambrano and Lilly are fine. I'm extremely happy with Demp and Gal, but Lou needs to be careful of their workload. Marquis is a disaster -- a train wreck, basically. Imagine how good the rotation would be by upgrading his spot.
  17. I generally like Teddy.
  18. Except that Zambrano, for all his athleticism, is a pitcher. And most assuredly not a professional hitter.
  19. The Cubs have been a good team for the last two seasons (including '08 as one of the two). They performed horribly at the beginning of last season, but eventually they started catching up to their pythag and righted the ship. Soto, Fukudome, and the improved Theriot have made the Cubs better this season, though the starting pitching is still worrisome. The Brewers really haven't improved all that much, and the loss of Gallardo really hurt.
  20. It all depends on the severity of the strain and, yes, your age. Pujols isn't old and has a demonstrated ability to both heal quickly and play through pain and injuries. He also plays a position that requires little running and his legs aren't a huge part of his game. I think that once Albert comes back -- whenever that is -- he'll be fine and you'll see few, if any, lingering effects.
  21. Reed Johnson strikes again!!! lol. Walk off HBP.
  22. With Aram at second? I'd bunt right at Chipper.
