  1. whats this guys bstuff like? I've seen his name pop up on some top ten lists.
  2. It wouldn't surprize me that if the Reds do trade Dunn , we would be getting back Eric Milton also. Maybe the Reds don't Pie back but I find that really hard to belive because over the years the reds have always loved top athlete outfielders. Maybe you could get the Reds to bite with this offer Hill Williams Nova Dope Sing
  3. I hate you Alex. Best wishes in Philly though.
  4. I would love Hendry to at least make the phone call and let his agent know that we would love to have him here and would offer him the same treatment the Astros did. Followed by calls from Baker, Lee, Maddux, Wood, Prior offering a recruiting pitch. You at least have to take that shot. The Cubs payroll can float handle his contract. With ticket increases , new seats, more money than thought coming in from rooftops and the sign behind home plate .
  5. good news cauuse lugo is not the answer
  6. The Dodgers new GM didn't want to deal with the Cubs because of sour grapes with Baker or Hendry I can't remember. Depo arragnged the meeting with Baker and Bradley he was fired before a deal could be put together . If Hendry had traded Mitre, Nolasco, Pinto for two relivers this board would have had a meltdown. We traded for one of the top leadoff men in the game when he's at his best and we might still have overpaid. I would have done a Walker for Mcdougal or Alfedt if KC hadn't gotten Grudz and the Cubs found a hitter who could replace Walker elsewhere
  7. Guys Giles took less money to stay in san diego deal. This is like saying we should get into the bidding for Clemens because we have the money , he wants to play in Texas somewhere or Boston or New York.
  8. eww I would do a Walker for Heilman but Ohman is a cheap still pretty young lefty who had a great year last year and can only get better.
  9. I would love to get Freel back in that package but it won't happen.
  10. I love the idea of watching the Cubs over the next three years with Dunn on the roster. Lee Ramirez Dunn Barett Prior Zambrano Thats a young and talented roster that will be in there primes with plenty of Cubs to spend to help surround them with talent.
  11. Thats gotta be an amazing feeling for the family.
  12. http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=124590&format=text A young man who died after the Red Sox won the world series after being hit by a drunk driver appears on a billboard selling Red Sox. The photo was picked out unknown to Red Sox brass.
  13. I think were gonna get a big year out of Maddux this season. Maybe the retirement talk from baker lit a fire under Maddux? Either way I love this talk about Maddux begging out of games. You guys complain all the time about Dusty not handling his pitchers well this is one card where Dusty has played his cards well not over extending him. Maddux is a student of the game and a warrior on the mound he knows what he has left in the tank when Dusty asks him.
  14. How come you have grissom listed to be making 1 million next season. He's a NRI I doubt he'll be getting a million dollar contract.
  15. i'm suprized no one has taken a chance yet on Kevin Brown this offseason for a chance to crack there rotation.
  16. You know that the line from that movie is "California Penal League" ? I don't know what a California Pino league is. I also don't know what your comment has to do with the thread at all. Vance I made the post in another thread about the Dubois playing there in that league now. It a refrence from the movie major league about where wild thing Rick Vaughn is asked where he pitched. He had just been released from Jail.
  17. With a guy like Wuertz/Nova slated for use in the sixth inning Dusty shouldn't have to overuse are starters. I can't really remember a pen with more talent in the last years off the top of my head that the Cubs had. Ohman/Eyre/Williamson/Wuertz are all 7,8 inning guys on other clubs. Ohman and Williamson could be closers for some clubs when healthy.
  18. this years can be one of the best the cubs have ever had. If Williamson is healthy he is one of the top relivers in baseball. Novoa has the stuff to very good. Wuertz was very effective when used right last year. Ohman is another year removed from surgery and was lights out last year. Dempster is coming into spring training with his role defined and another year from surgery. Eyre and Howry bring two proven arms. With a chance Rusch, Miller, Wood, Williams, Guzman, Hill could find a slot in the pen the cubs has a lot of depth.
  19. If Piazza wants to come here a power bat off the bench and backup first base I'll take him. The Yankees will probably snatch him up though he could be really useful ginving Posada and Giambi days off while Dhing. I wouldn't be surprized with a 25 homer season if he got enough at bats from them.
  20. screw Bonds I hope everyone blames him not playing on the juice. He's a loser and scumbag. I hope his knee's give out and he falls a few homers short of Aaron.
  21. I think a player who doesn't want to play winter ball does have poor work ethic if your need more practice , work, college degree , in any profession you do it if you wish to suceed . Gym rat or not dumbells don't help you get a better read of the ball off the beat, pickoff moves, hitting a curve ball ect. Gape Kapler was a gym rat and on the cover of Muscle Fitness a couple times guy made Farnsworht look small and now he's playing over in Japan because he couldn't do anything with all that muscle.
  22. if we signed Jeff Weaver I would do it in a heartbeat. Prior Zambrano Maddux Rusch Guzman/Koronka/Brownlie/ Valdez That five spot in the rotation could cost a bunch of wins that first month although Koronka has thrown well. I put Brownlie in the mix I just saw his name mentioned as a shot at making the rotation in the papers or Cubs.com. I don't think Valdez is ready for the bigs and I really want to take baby steps with Guzman. Going with a four man staff until Wood or Miller makes me think they would be rushed back and putting any more strain on Z with him already playing the WBC is a really bad idea. If you deal Hill and Williams Weaver at one year deal would be nice. Pierre Walker Lee Dunn Ramirez Jones Barrett Cedeno Has some balance and speed and power throughout. Prior Wood Zambraon Maddux Weaver Miller and Rusch spot starters or trade bait
  23. Ohman was a well thought of prospect before he got hit hard by some injuries. Last year was really his first full season in the majors he's only 28 and is quite a bargain. Lefties hit 173 off him and though righties killed him at 231.He has some pretty unhittable stuff for one inning and would hate to lose him for a bench guy and an overhyped one at that.
  24. And some people always resort to hyperbole and absolutes to make their point. Oh, wait... Im gonna agree with Cubsdad4ever there's a large group on this board that likes to believe that they know more about players trade vaule then the peolpe that work in the game today and tend to have some very negative attitudes towards some of the most respected minds in the game today (Hendry and Hughes). A lot of peolpe on this board love to mention Sisco as a mistake on Hendry part but some to fail to give him credit on knowing when it was time to cut ties with some of the boards favorites Cruz ,Choi, Dubois ,Jones, Harris, Hill who have all gone on to have such sucesss elsewhere.
