  1. another good North Dakota boy. He had a solid career. cheers.
  2. everybody would be out of their mind to let this guy retire. Suspicions and distractions aside, this guy can still help any major league club. He wants to play. That's why he showed up at the winter meetings. Lower price? you bet.
  3. if they wiggle out of this deal, I have just two words: sign him. Soriano Derosa Lee Bonds Ramirez Jones Barrett Izturis
  4. i think the major problem with this idea is that maddux and walker and williamson aren't latin ballplayers, thus minaya is not interested
  5. Somewhat off-topic: I believe I remember hearing that there is a way to ignore all posts by a person on this board, is this correct? RIP Kirby
  6. Where does steroids have anything to do with this? :? Come on.
  7. This is why they are always so hesitant to make public any type of a timetable for either Wood or Prior. If they miss one deadline, the media jumps all over because they love this storyline. Theres 162 games a year, take a deep breath. Still some thirty days until opening days remaining. Behind schedule is just a term used by the media to bring to everyday sport's fans attention to the fact that these guys are human, and to allow jack@sses at ESPN and other outlets something to report so they can continue to ignore the NHL while giving the NFL guys time to spin more info about the labour agreement.
  8. baseball saved baseball
  9. here is some out-dated analysis on this guy http://mets.scout.com/2/219978.html Circa end of '03 season
  10. Adam Dunn vs RHP: .273/.421/.580/1.001 Adam Dunn vs LHP: .197/.321/463/.784 Seems to be a lot of guys that have trouble against Lefties. I'd hang on to that farm system.
  11. Torii Hunter's last game was on July 29th. Jones as of 7-29-05: .273/.355/.459/.814 When Hunter, Jones and the team suffered, statistically and in the standings.
  12. Perhaps I am missing the reason we need to go out and acquire an Austin Kearns. Jacque Jones is under contract to play for the club this season. It doesn't make sense to trade a, lets say, Jerome Williams and platoon Kearns and Jones and Murton. Jones is a left handed bat that can hit from the 5-7 spots in this teams lineup. This move wouldn't make sense to me.
  13. Thank you M&P. You hit the nail on the head. Hendry is giving Jones $5,000,000 a year to play baseball, not so that he can play part time. Barring injury he will start the season in the outfield. He is an everyday player, bottomline.
  14. I am not a Jim Hendry fan. However, he always seems to stick his own hide on the line when it comes time for a move to be made. 2003 he brought in an aging Lofton, a poor defensive 3B, and a platoon-style 1B. That combination nearly put the team over the top and into the World Series. In 2004 he brought in Nomar which should have been a huge leap towards a phenomenal post-season. Things just didn't turn out the way that they should have according to logic. I have faith that there is one more large move in the making before spring training. I assume that either Lugo or Huff will be brought in from Tampa, preferrably Huff. However, Lugo would be good in the two spot. My only thought that has any teeth is that the offseason/GM season isn't over yet. Give the guy some time, he'll put out a product that everyone can be at relative ease with, even those of us that hate Mabry.
  15. If I were to see this team/rotation/lineup on opening day, I would not be too surprised/disappointed/excited. We still have a rotation that when healthy can go on a run and absolutely shut people down completely over a series. We have a leadoff hitter for the first time since...probably before my time. The payroll is another thing. I agree that these aren't the names that you want to see for $100,000,000.00, but it's not as though the organization has to lure fans to the ballpark. The ballpark is all the bait that they need. If Wood comes back healthy after only missing 5-10 starts and Murton/Cedeno are holding their positions, there is no reason why we can't be right there fighting at the end of the season. and thats all I need No more moves, Walker starts, Corey on the bench (for now), other positive reinforcement.
  16. Actually, the "speaking his mind" part played a lesser part with the Cubs than it did with other teams as far as Walker is concerned. The Cubs, from the front office on down to some members of the pitching staff, do not like Walker's defense. And the Cubs do seem to be on a "defense" kick these days. None of us is privy to everything that goes on behind closed doors, so who knows what has gone on. Myself? I'd keep Walker and start him. But that's just me. Not that I am disagreeing with the notion that the cubs have been looking to improve defense recently, but then why move Patterson? I love his skills, especially defensively. If I were in charge (glad I'm not :) ), I would have him start the season as the fourth outfielder, getting spot starts in place of Murton. If Patterson finds his swing and becomes the player that he was in the first half of '03. Then we'd have a whole nother, but a good problem. Just my thoughts. Not trying to be argumentative.
  17. because Gerut doubled coming in with the double switch
  18. To all: remember to edit your picks before clicking the submit button. Some guy named Tanner...something forgot to do that and ended up sending David Wells to Boston. What a moron. MAKE SURE TO EDIT BEFORE SUBMITTING!
