  1. That's ridiculous. No one would be upset if the Cubs started spending money, so long as it was spent somewhat wisely (no gigantic contracts for past their prime players, or Hendry-like contracts for relievers). If a good young players come to the market, by all means, throw as much money at them as it takes. As for Utley, I'd be perfectly fine seeing what he has left, though I'm not sure where he'd get his ABs, especially if Baez comes up. I kinda dont want baez to come up so his value isnt ruined if he stinks it up
  2. If there was no issue with money they wouldnt have been trying so hard to get a controllable TOR type starter via trade. They don't have infinite money and they dont need 3 catchers either. Castro is a guy they should move because he is keeping Russell away from his future position which is SS, and his performance doesn't justify the salary to me. (especially the long term part of it) Moving Montero and Castro makes sense if your going after some big name free agents that can make a higher marginal impact on the team in 2016, guys like Heyward can play CF and will demand big bucks.. Your price kinda guys will too! Toss in a zobrist kinda guy and your looking at a well improved team over this years already good team where montero and castro arent necessarily carrying the teams success.
  3. i guess we will have to see what happens
  4. That's what got us into this mess. Spending money is what Jim Hendry would do. I dont see how getting rid of castro and montero who have replacements already on the team or almost ready would be a bad thing when that money could be spent on a big OF bat or a TOR starter! its like im trading in 2 used cars for a new car
  5. if the cubs want to sign a price/cueto/grienke type guy and an outfielder like Heyward while trying to lock up arrieta long term they dont have enough money. I guess we could keep castro/montero and go for the best B level guys we can get. that would be a typical cubs move.
  6. Maybe in regards to MLB standards these contracts arent bad, but in regards to the cubs other options these are way bad. Montero (replaced by schwarber who is dirt cheap) 2016 Age 33 $14 Million 2017 Age 34 $14 Million Castro (Russell is SS of future, Baez waiting in the wings 2b both are dirt cheap) 2016 Age 26 $7 Million 2017 Age 27 $9 Million 2018 Age 28 $10 Million 2019 Age 29 $11 Million That 21 Million in 2016 alone is huge
  7. Yeah we just need Herrera to bunt every AB he might get on base 1 or 2 times.
  8. I think they will need to move some bad contracts in the offseason to make money for extensions (arrieta) and signings like (price or Heyward) so yeah they do!
  9. Very good point the lineup tonight might end up something like Fowler Denforia Rizzo Soler Castro Herrera Ross Lester Russell
  10. Herrera is Maddons favorite clubhouse guy he goes no where.
  11. if you could get utley and trade them castro + mid level prospects it would be great. would free up alot of money in the offseason what the [expletive] they gotta get rid of castro's contract!
  12. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/01/bobby-bonillas-isnt-the-only-deferred-money-deal-in-the-game-and-isnt-even-the-worst/comment-page-1/ Backloaded contracts and deferred payments are not the same thing, you lummox Someone mentioned deferred contracts oh it was Tim. I guess i shoulda quoted him. fcku

  14. Hudson basically admitting Leake taking his spot on the roster is a good thing here. http://www.sfgate.com/giants/article/Giants-trade-update-Mike-Leake-starts-Sunday-6418243.php Wish Rossy could do something like that!
  15. I think it's easy convince ross to be a bench coach
  16. LMAO! soo true. i'd take the .300 with RISP that team gotta be scoring alot over a whole season!
  17. if you could get utley and trade them castro + mid level prospects it would be great. would free up alot of money in the offseason
  18. He's still learning to be a proper catcher and all signs point to the Cubs thinking he's capable of being at least acceptable in the long term at the position, and if his bat is as good as it can be while playing acceptable defense at catcher he would be obscenely valuable. sorry i was being sarcastic there
  19. Javy back to his old ways with k's
  20. Prolly cogs ends up playing rf a couple vs a right soler struggled against too
  21. So these Sun Times guys are trying to start some kinda controversy again,.. Gordon is such a hack http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/844202/schwarber-fast-track-creates-28-million-question-cubs So montero is complaining about playing time now? lol
  22. this is fast, isn't it? seems like an obvious "don't want to lose my job to the rookie i'll rush back and oops i'm way more injured now" situation. yes and he's the crazy ass type to do that Yah then if the injury gets worse and he is out a long time were stuck with the contract going into 2016.. what 13 mil? I bet schwarber gets alot of lf down the stretch
  23. 100% agree. I'd rather add LaStella than Utley. I'd rather add Baez than LaStella. Plus I don't want to give up what it takes to get Utley, unless it's Concepcion or something equivalent A - I can't imagine it takes all that much ot get Utley B - I'd definitely rather take a gamble on Utley than add LaStella. EWW. Maybe they explored this option if baez was traded for a ross or Carrasco before on July 31 and the writer was late to the call.
  24. Sweet thing about sucking last hear is we can get high calls on the waiver wire.
  25. The nicest. Sucks that I can't make it to any of the games this week. Going to the Sept series though. If javy has another multi hit night I hope they call him up .. we face a few tough lefties this week!
