  1. It says a lot about the current make up of the roster when the Cardinals give $80 mil to a pitcher and we're all like, "yeah? so what?"
  2. yeah unfortunately there's a lot more important things that sheffield was a lot better at than attitude. Have you been paying attention the past 3 years? This FO considers mental makeup and clubhouse presence to be very important. No one is discounting that Sheffield was a very good player, but there's a reason he was dealt so many times. And that reason was he was a very good player that many teams wanted?
  3. Look at Soriano's first name in 2013. well he did say 2008 My fault. Typed too fast, was kind of going off of faulty memory.
  4. How in the world did you get Alphonson Soriano in 2008? edit: ahhh, you can just type in last names. Damnit that would've saved me some time.
  5. AND they're likely to sign Cespedis I have no idea what this has to do with what I posted. Meatballs are going to think the Giants will win the WS again because of it being an even year and then also signing a small handful of expensive free agents, basically.
  6. AND they're likely to sign Cespedis
  7. Are you trying to make me not like DeRosa? I wonder how Ross and Lackey figured out which one got to ride with Lester?
  8. Yeah, I guess for opening day I could see Joe stacking both new guys at the top. I just think eventually they'll get split up. Spread some contact around, get Soler to see some pitches.
  9. Opening Day lineup guess: CF Heyward RF Soler 1B Rizzo 3B Bryant DH Schwarber 2B Zobrist C Montero LF Coghlan SS Russell
  10. Glad to hear Schwarber will be playing the majority, if not all, his games in the Outfield. I want Schwarber having nothing to do with a position that puts him at an increased risk to get hurt. Considering how good the lineup likely will be I wouldn't be opposed to dealing Montero in a salary dump move, and simply going with a tolerable veteran stopgap at the bottom of the order until Contreras is hopefully ready come August or September. As for a prediction for Soler's 2016 slash line, I won't get too excited and instead give what I think is a fairly realistic line of 275/345/450. Combined with tolerable defense that would represent a solid step in the right direction for his career. Yes, lets make our team worse.
  11. Oh I know, that doesn't mean I have to like thinking about it.
  12. I'm really happy that we have Zobrist and everything, but theres something ferociously cool about the idea of a Russell-Baez double play tandem. How is Zobrist on the turn these days? Are we assuming 2B is mostly his on Opening Day the next 3-4 years, or might he eventually move Bryant to OF full time? I realize there are many variables to this, like how Javy and Torres do, how well Zobrist ages, if Schwarber really can catch after Montero is gone and if Soler is dealt or not... but I'm curious as to people's predictions. Would this be totally far fetched for a 2017 or 18 roster? 1B Rizzo 2B Baez 3B Zobrist SS Russell LF Schwarber/Bryant CF Heyward/Almora or Martinez RF Bryant/Heyward C Contreras/Schwarber
  13. Did we set this SP trade market off in its current state with the Russell trade? Seems like if you want a youngish SP with a few years of control you're going to have to give up more than you might be comfortable with. Maybe I just have a really short memory though.
  14. oh christ if Rizzo turns out to be a pedophile I will [expletive] flipout Am I missing something here? Was there something about Doug Henning I didn't know about?
  15. I think we can keep everyone as is, dong the snot out of the league in the first half, then trade for a SP with whatever prospects are tearing it up at the time.
  16. I certainly wouldn't consider what happened last year as "complaining". Dude was asked by a reporter if he thought he should be a starter down the stretch/in the playoffs. Cogs was confident in himself and he was coming off a season where he was hitting 3rd and picked up an infielders glove for the first time in years. He was a useful, team player and he really only said, "yeah, I think I should be in the lineup".
  17. Yes. I see a scenario in him coming back, but it includes us trading Soler, putting Heyward in RF and Fowler in CF. I realize you said "in a perfect offseason" but realistically, we can't keep them all. If Fowler is on this team then he is the starting CF every game, pretty much.
  18. I suppose what caught me off guard was your suggestion he would be the 4th outfielder. IF Dexter would accept the QO to come back, I have the feeling we wouldn't want a nearly $16mil asset on the bench for most of the game. It would almost certainly mean a trade of Soler.
  19. Maybe Joe Torre would manage Iowa for us too?
  20. I see your point about it being solely beneficial for Heyward, but the way the 2018 FA class stacks up, he may opt out and (if there's money available) sign someone else. That class is stacked. But yeah, i'm not sure if we'll have money if we lock up Arrieta and when our studs hit arbitration. Yeah, Heyward has the upperhand with the opt out now, but we won't know if its a bad thing for the Cubs until after the whole thing comes and passes. If, say, he helps us win 3 rings and then opts out, cashes in with whichever team loses out on Harper, then watches as we plug in Jiminez or someone else who is younger, cheaper, and potentially better at that point in time and helps us win our 4th straight...... basically what I'm saying is, is both sides can come out winners, right? If he mashes the next 3 years and we don't win any rings, he opts out and leaves us without a suitable replacement... then yeah. That would suck. But I think Theo has earned our trust to this point, so I'm not going to second guess these opt outs until I see them happen first.
  21. Of course it would suck to have an injury happen to Bryant or Russell but there'd be something really cool with just plugging Javy in there and let him do his thing. I mean, how rare is that? To have a young talent of Baez's level backing up two other young talents of Bryant and Russell's level? Team Keep Javy.
