I feel like with this lineup and this veteran starting staff, this season and next may be the best (only) time to utilize Schwarber for 20-30 games as a useful catcher, even with average-to-below-average defense. In theory, we will have monster lineups, mash the other teams to death and win 99% of the games he starts due to our offense alone... Imagine inserting Mike Piazza in to that late 90's Cleveland beast, or something.... But anyway, in the rare chance that he is a disaster back there and getting run all over town, then I've got faith Maddon will figure it out quick and salvage the situation. It would also be a good way to keep Montero fresh, especially if we end up having to use him through his contract. -
Yeah. We've really only given up Castro and some draft picks. It would be nice if we could package some hitting prospects for SP prospects or something, drum up some excitement from the pitching side of things, but I have faith we'll add more pitching when the deal makes sense for us. They've pretty much promoted all their big chips to the major leagues, and with the exception of Soler and Baez, don't really have impact trade pieces. I mean, I didn't say they had to be impact prospects we trade, did I? Not saying the SP prospects we get back are top 25 guys either, but I'd think aside from Contreras, we could afford to move any of our top 5 guys and not really flinch, and maybe finally Vogelbach finds an AL suitor. Anyway, I think we could easily package 3 or 4 guys to get back 2 exciting-ish arms, but I will acknowledge that I do not have MLB front office experience.

This tweet makes my brain hurt. Explain it to me. We have a lot of versatility But didn't we already have this stupid little stat before signing Dex? What am I missing? He adds an extra CF, of which we would've had 3 guys there already anyway. (4, actually) One could argue because Cogs played 2B we are losing versatility but whatever

i'm not sure that weakness is a weakness this team realistically has to worry about I don't think it's an Achilles heel, but I didn't feel that way about CF defense either. La Stella as the only LH bat on the bench isn't ideal, and I'm probably TLS's biggest fan. Sadly, you know there will be more games than we're comfortable with where Montero will be also available off the bench.

We've got Heyward and Szczur with MLB experience in CF and Javy with MLB talent developing in the offseason. Then we also have Almora in AA/AAA for this year, who could potentially contribute to the MLB club earlier than expected if injuries forced it. Then you also have guys like Fowler and Austin Jackson who are available in free agency, and who knows what will happen between now and Opening Day. So to answer your question, yes, we will have a centerfielder this year. Maybe 3.

Right now its January of 2016 and we are legitimately looking at a lineup of 1B Rizzo 2B Zobrist 3B Bryant SS Russell LF Schwarber CF Heyward RF Soler C Montero SU Baez I mean, its like, hard to believe its real life sometimes.

Why is it "all fun and games now" but it still can't be for the next 3-4 years? If Manny went 3-5 with a HR, 2B and BB but made Sportscenter Not Top 10 or whatever set to benny hill music, do you think Theo gave a [expletive]? It's a different run environment now. If Schwarber can not embarrass himself in LF on a regular basis they should keep him until he starts costing. Yeah. That's what I've been saying

I know nothing is impossible, but I really don't see Schwarber getting dealt as long as he hits the way he does and gets paid what he gets paid.

Buddy of mine ordered 3 last year. The Arrieta one he got was ridiculous; the gap between the "ARRIETA" and the MLB logo on the back was, like, 10 inches I'm not joking. He tried to get a refund but I think they only gave him $5 back. I'll try to get a picture, its pretty funny.

Javy is too valuable to us as a utility guy/backup this year. We need him more than we need to use him in a deal for a SP. We can win a WS with this team as it currently is, and if by mid season Theo wants to upgrade the rotation or CF I think he'll be able to accomplish it without using Javy. I mean, we all know Javy's warts, so does every other GM out there. There may some teams that dont want him and would prefer a grouping from the likes of Torres/Jiminez/McKinney/Happ/Almora, etc
