  1. So that makes the smell one million times better than Busch II, huh? :D Give it time, eventually it'll take on that lovely "St. Louis" smell. Actually, now that I've lived in Chicago for about a year, I can say that Chicago often stinks. Don't get me wrong, I love this city, but it stinks in places. I think it has something to do with the storm drains. They all vent right out into the air. In St. Louis the storm drains are built into the curbs and have solid coverings that keep the smells contained. Here in Chicago they just vent right out into the air so anywhere within a 20 foot radius of one absolutely reeks on a hot day. As far as St. Louis goes, I have yet to visit a town on the Mississippi that didn't stink, but the STL stinks more than most. Chicago definitely has a smell, but it isn't nearly as offensive. Then again, I don't recall spending much time around many storm drains. I blame Gary whenever a bad smell hits my nostrils in Chicago. 8-[
  2. I gotta give props to Carlos for not completely imploding when he gave up that hit to Wilson. He kept his composure and got out of the inning.
  3. 1B/OF Travis Snider for the Jays Also, we made it to the Cubs. That's all that counts. ;)
  4. Hm. Go figure. Wonder if the Miller contract demands/desire to go to the Cubs story has legs? Colorado apparently will happily take Miller, so we'll have to see...
  5. Apparently BA isn't sold on his ability to make consistent contact. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs took a chance on him again, though.

  7. Veal's stuff is fascinating to me. Granted, he's an extreme flyball pitcher, but he strikes out a ton of guys. I believe after tonight, he has a 72/35 K/BB on the season (reminiscent of Renyel Pinto), and he has only allowed 4 HRs in a little under 62 IP, which is respectable in Low A. If he can keep striking out batters at that rate and reduce the flyballs, he could become a good K/Flyball pitcher down the road. I'm curious to see what becomes of Yusuf Carter. Apparently the Cubs drafted him as a catcher, but he played in CF today. We'll see if they're just trying him around the diamond or if the catcher thing isn't going to happen.
  8. Both are fine players, but Bard's tendency to be a thrower instead of a pitcher and Drabek's supposed character/makeup issues are worrisome.
  9. When a guy is losing his mechanics and being wild, he's putting himself at greater risk for injury, ESPECIALLY some one like Zambrano who throws in the high 90s and already had 115 pitches under his belt. The difference between 90 and 100 pitches is not that bad. The difference between 120 and 130 is really bad.
  10. The ump was squeezing him, but a number of his pitches were missing pretty badly.
  11. Figures. He's exhausted, get the bullpen up, get Larry and Barrett out there for a chat.
  12. If I were an ump and I was behind the plate for a no-no in progress, I'd slowly expand my strike zone later in the game.
  13. WGN has him at 88 pitches at 1-1 on Burke.
  14. Die in a fire whoever spoke the magic "Perfect" word.
