  1. Correct, but as I've read about him, he would have been a much more polished and sought after pitcher had he simply stuck to baseball instead of balancing both out. No matter the case, $8m in guaranteed money is hard to walk away from.
  2. I believe most people thought he would be a Top 20 pick had he focused solely on baseball.

  4. Steak grows on Dmitri! *Ducks* hahahahahahahahahha Wow, I hadn't even checked their site for an update tonight. Coincidences rule. My personal favorite came from yesterday: http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/433/jimtracy7lr.jpgTracyTakesOn: Here, let me check the schedule for you. The problem here is that when you're on the Pirates there's logically nowhere to be demoted to. You're going to have to transmigrate your soul and reincarnate as a lesser being.

  6. They must think he has the potential to be a stud ace to throw that kind of money at him. How do you ND fans feel about the prospect of Samardzija ditching out on the football team in favor of becoming a pitcher in the Cubs system?
  7. Most people have Samardzija as a guy likely to go between 10-20 if only the seniors declare. However, this year's junior WR class is absolutely stacked at the top.
  8. Apparently $8m in guaranteed cash. Yeowza! Carson Palmer's signing bonus was $10m as the #1 overall pick in 2003. $8m would be one heck of a carrot.
  9. yeah, but Rubby has it all. apparently there is a singer and 2 doctors in his family. That would be Rubby, enchanter of puppies.

  11. He is a better batter than Augie Ojeda, imo.
  12. Been awhile since we've seen you around these parts, Hoops!

  14. Yeah, I just watched part of the replay of today's US game and it's the first soccer game I've ever really watched. I've gotta ask: how much time a game does each player spend writhing on the ground in "pain" trying to draw a foul, only to pop back up like nothing happened when none is called? (Or even if it is called.) I think I've seen less hammy performances in pro wrestling matches. The Columbians have it down to an artform. In this tournament, Argentina and Italy have been quite good at it thus far.
  15. I know exactly the game they're talking about. It was Game 2 of the NLDS between Houston and Atlanta. Check this article for more in-depth info. The gist of it was this: Cox nearly got tossed when he was arguing with the umps. The Braves played the remainder of the game under protest. Fun game, imo.

  17. Ahhhhhh, the wonders of having 10 Spanish language channels at your disposal. That Italy-Ghana was even worse than I originally thought. Italy was shoving Ghana's guys all over the pitch and they did it in an annoying, yet somewhat clever way. When they go to throw up their arms to show they weren't engaging in handplay, on the way up they give guys a shove in the back, letting the opposing guy's momentum take care of itself. It's kind of sneaky, but if the refs even bother to watch the games, they will get nailed more and more for it as the tournament goes on.
  18. Watching the Australia/Japan replay (hooray for ten Spanish language channels!), I'm impressed that Japan's first goal stood. They absolutely mugged Australia's goalie on that play.
  19. Okay, that was an awesome screwup.
  20. The Cubs have shown with guys down in Low A, they will give them the full season to enjoy their success and get used to the daily grind over the course of a long season. They've had chances to promote plenty of guys doing really well down there over the past years, but instead kept them there until towards the end of the season in some cases. So, I doubt Atkins or Veal will get promoted. Maybe Downs will get another shot. He's due to grow another few inches any day now, right? ;)
  21. That second goal was an impressive brain fart.
  22. One of the things I absolutely love and hate about soccer: Guys who get stretchered off the field...then roll right off the stretcher and go running back onto the field full speed within a matter of moments.
  23. The announcer on Telemundo really loves Pimpong.
  24. Ghana's goalie has really impressed me. But Italy has a much better sense of anticipation and placement than Ghana. Every time Ghana gets some one in position to make a shot or make a break for it, Italy has a man right on him. They're just a better coached team.
  25. If he can put these numbers up over the next few seasons, then yes I would like to see him signed as a FA. However, I'd rather the Cubs not trade for him, especially considering the fact that this team is still on pace to barely finish over .400.
