  4. It's kind of interesting evaluating Pie when you look at his peripherals: IsoP 2006: .142 2005: .250 2004: .144 2003: .103 IsoD 2006: .066 2005: .045 2004: .061 2003: .061 He's drawing more walks overall and he's back to his power levels in 2004. Given the fact that most people who have been watching him have said that he's been more passive at the plate this season (watching more strike three pitches, for example), I'm guessing these numbers are a result of trying to implement that new approach. His abnormally high K numbers seem to be indicative of that. I wouldn't worry too much about his average, to be truthful. There are too many factors at play when it comes to determining that particular number. A week-long hot streak would get that number back to a respectable level, you know? His power numbers and plate discipline require monitoring, but I think his slight improvement in patience is reason for optimism. Bottom line: Don't throw him under the bus yet.
  5. I wonder if those Red Sox fans still post here. Jimy Williams' name always did a good job of sending my Red Sox fan friends into spastic fits of rage. He wouldn't be much of a step up from Dusty when it comes to things like bullpen management, bringing along young players, and utilizing the players at his disposal effectively. He seems like a nice enough guy, but he would not be a good choice for managing this team.
  6. I say we build some stocks in front of Wrigley Field. Dusty, Larry, Gene, and Sarge all get locked up in there while fans get to throw as much rotten fruit and Cubs merchandise at them as possible for 30 days. Heck, I'd pay good money to chuck a tomato at Dusty.
  7. Apparently Davy Johnson refuses to be dragged away from his fishing boat.

  10. Strange how he said nothing about hustle and motivation in there.
  11. 1-1 in the 3rd inning. Muldowney started and has gone 2 IP so far, Colvin's playing center, and Sammy Baez has a double with a run.
  12. Um... what? l33t sp34k, d00d.
  13. Cripes, even a Top 5 pick will probably net a great player. Next year's draft crop looks insane at the top.
  14. The Don!!!!!!!!!! with his best outing of the season: 7 scoreless, 3 hits, 1 BB, 6 Ks, and a 9-6 GO-FO to go along with it.
  15. No more crazy than someone putting a hill and a flag pole in centerfield. :D They should have added a windmill and a giant plaster dinosaur while they were at it.
  16. I was mulling over what Cubs could be shipped off by the deadline when Wade Miller's name came up. Here's a little background on his situation... Similar to Williamson and Dempster in previous years, Miller signed a deal with the Cubs with the intent of rehabbing his injured shoulder. However, Miller's deal was only for one year without any options. Also, Miller has said in the past that he has no intention of moving to the bullpen and instead wants to remain a starter. So, Miller started rehabbing down in Peoria (Low A) about two weeks ago. It looks like he should make a full recovery within the near future, assuming health and building his arm strength back up. With this in mind, what should the Cubs do with Wade Miller? This season is a waste and Hendry sounded like he was going to try trading away the guys who won't be here in the long term. Should the Cubs trade him? If so, what could they get in return? Should the Cubs hang onto him, and then offer him arbitration when he becomes a free agent? Would his limited performances over the past three years merit a Type A FA designation, or would he instead be a B or C guy? Would it be worthwhile to re-sign the guy given his recent health problems?
  17. It's one of the many Bulls/Hornets trade rumors/ideas that have been flying around the internet recently. I'm not putting a whole lot of stock into it, but it's interesting to think about.
  18. The hot rumor is Tyson to the Hornets for P.J. Brown and J.R. Smith. Another possibility would be a sign and trade with Atlanta -- Tyson for Harrington. The most recent one I've been hearing is Chandler/Gordon for West/Smith. It's an intriguing deal, needless to say.
  19. Fixed. Pettitte's going to go at least 7, giving up at most 1 ER.

  21. Anyone got a scouting report on Pina? I liked the numbers he put up last season in Mesa, given his age. Tonight seemed like a very nice step in the right direction.
  22. The Cubs have a league in The Dominican Republic, so I'm guessing there unless the guy is already advanced enough to handle the transition to the States. Usually they have to work out visa issues and that junk before bringing a guy over, to boot. Although, happily, those issues have lessened in recent years.
