    He's still in my Top 10. Part of that is due to the quality of prospects already in the system and part of that is due to Colvin's performance. The power definitely came as a surprise to many, imo.

    With the way his numbers project, he's beginning to strike me as a potential Jock Jones type at his ceiling. Except with better numbers against LHP.

    IsoD by month (not including postseason): June: .069 (9 PA) July: .050 (131 PA) August: .033 (124 PA) September: .047 (24 PA) Yeah, I can't say I'm too thrilled with that trend. One can only hope he was tired and will improve next season...but I am concerned.

    In all fairness, coming into the season the Dodgers, Angels, Diamondbacks, and Marlins arguably had the top four farm systems in all of baseball. Because of his youth, upside, and five tool potential, Pie has been one of the top prospects in all of baseball for awhile now. He was in the Top 25 coming into the season and likely will find himself there again. The Cubs' farm system is now bereft since a number of their pitchers no longer qualify. We have a TON of ML-ready and cheap pitchers which the Marlins would be thrilled to get their hands on. Coupled with that, the system has some rising stars who will appeal to any organization. The Cubs have a lot of trading chips they can use in the offseason. Frankly, given how questionable the majority of the position players are in this year's crop, part of me would simply rather the Cubs look to the trade market. Pie alone won't get Cabrera, but a package involving Pie, Veal, and Marshall would be mighty tempting, no?

    I still get really angry whenever people bring up 2004. Remember when this team was ahead in the WC and merely needed to take down the Reds and Mets, who were at the time basically AAAA teams due to injuries and trades? Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh. I HATED the way that season ended.

    If Baker is back next year which is highly unlikely at this point, I imagine a big riot outside of Clark/Addison I imagine some one sneaking rotten fruit into the Cubs Convention in the offseason.

    From what I've read with Wieters' bat and questionable lack of a position, he sounds like another Travis Snider-like situation waiting in the wings. Yay! Also, I always thought guys with good arms were put in RF to keep runners from advancing to third?

    Since when did TLR become a 10 on the managerial intelligence scale? This is the same friggin' guy who uses four pitchers to get three outs in an inning.

    Despite getting one run in the 8th, Peoria falls short and is eliminated. :( Peoria lost 4-3. Boise is currently down 5-0 at the top of the 6th. Ceda went 4.1 and gave up 5 ER, striking out three. Matulia is 1/2 and Colvin is 2/2 with a double. That's pretty much it for Boise.

    That's like deciding that Fettucine Alfredo is too fattening, so you have a bacon and mayonnaise sandwich instead. Or you can be like Jim Hendry and combine the two!

    For those of you who might be interested, Chris Parmelee is batting 6th for Beloit. He has yet to get a hit in the series. His stats in the MWL thus far: .227/.370/.273 with 1 2B in 22 AB. In the GCL: .279/.369/.532 with 8 HRs, 7 2Bs, and 4 3Bs in 154 AB.

    Peoria and Beloit knotted at 0 going into the bottom of the 3rd. No hits for either team so far.

    I believe Hill' going to turn out to be the stronger of the two, a solid 3, maybe even a 2 someday. Don't see that for Marshall... I highly doubt many saw Marshall as more than a really good #4 at best...maybe a #3, but not likely. But I could be mistaken. I think you're mistaken. A lot of people saw Marshall as a potential 2/3 starter once he filled out a bit. Remember, coming into the season, most people saw him as a potential candidate to start at AA or AAA considering his limited experience at AA (I believe 10 games coming into the season?). He managed to do better than most expected, but he still is rough around the edges and still has room for improvement in some areas.

    If the Cubs get a manager who can get Guzman regular work without overdoing it, I think taking the Santana/Liriano approach could work out for him.

    It would be hilarious if MacPhail made Hendry manage this team next season with the stipulation that the team make the playoffs in order for him to keep his job. Heck, the hilarity would be worthwhile just to see him in a Cubs uniform.

    Amazingly enough, the Mays catch was done with runner on first and second... That play resulted in there only being runners on 1st and 3rd! :shock: In other words, not only did he make the catch, but he also got the ball back in time to keep one runner from scoring and the other from advancing. Then again, Mays' teammates all said he'd done a number of better catches than that one in the past. Also, some one at ESPN reeeeeeeeeally has a mad-on for Gary Matthews Jr. I think he should send them a thank you fruit basket when he gets his 3/$24m contract in the offseason.
