    That would definitely explain why Drew Rundle cracked the Top 20. His traditional stats are nothing special and his tools are still a work in progress, but that .146 IsoD is really tantalizing. Also, that 1.003 OPS against lefties is decidedly bizarre, considering he's a left handed hitter. Colvin is in a similar boat (.988 against LHPs), to boot.

    I've always felt that the talent compromising a roster is what's critical in these situations. Give a great motivator a bunch of .230 hitters and it won't matter how much he gets out of them...the fact remains that those guys are still .230 hitters and are terrible. If we're to assume that you'd give the manager and computer the same rosters, I think it really depends. Managers can play stupid hunches that somehow work out while computers could go with guys who are 99% likely to succeed and still end up failing. Honestly, I think the difference would be negligible and too heavily based on human behavior and performance to produce a good answer.

    I believe I read this on FJM awhile ago and it's been bothering me ever since. In football, there is one statistic in particular that has become widely accepted as one of the best ways to determine a QB's performance, the Passer Rating. Here's how they compile it: 4 primary ratings... Completion Percentage Rating: ((Comp/Att) * (100 - 30) / 20) Average Yards Rating: ((Yds/Att) - 3) * 4 TD/Att Rating: TD/Att * 20 INT/Att Rating: 2.375 - ((INT/Att) * 25) These four results are then added, divided by 6, and then multiplied by 100. Despite how complicated this might seem, this is one of the most commonly used stats in comparing QBs across the league. It's commonly used on all of the media outlets which cover football and rarely do you see people really criticize it ("Even though Kyle Orton's QB Rating sucked, he really contributed out there beyond what the numbers say!"). My question is rather simple. If people are so willing to use this statistic in judging talent in football, why the heck has baseball been so slow to catch up? Are things like OBP, OPS, OPS+, BABIP, and EqA any more complicated than how we compile passer ratings? Don't even get me started on plus/minus in hockey...

    Methinks the Vikings might be a sleeper team this year. After watching enough of that game, I can tell you that the Panthers had that game locked up before Chris Gamble decided to throw the game away. Believe me, if there ever was a loss that could be pinned on a single player, this would be a really good example of it.

    Absolutely horrible news for Lee's daughter and his family. :( I wish them nothing but the best. This is one of the worst things that could happen to anyone.

    I trying to think of a way to pitch this idea to Hendry by making Adam Dunn look like Ryan Harvey or Brian Dopirak since we all know Hendry doesn't care for BBs. :-k

    One of the kiddies at Reds Zone brings up an excellent point: In essence, that's why I think the Reds would want to start off with a package involving a #4 to slide into their rotation next season, a quality reliever, a potentially solid future 2B, and one of the top 25 prospects in all of baseball. They want to compete now; losing Dunn would go a long way in hurting that

    Jenkins' increasing age and health issues worry me, so I'd nix that one. If you're unhappy with Pierre, I fail to see how Podsednik is much of an upgrade. His IsoD is a step up, but that SB/CS ratio is significantly worse and offsets any upgrade in OBP he'd have.

    Pittsburgh is slowly pulling out of the race after they laid down and lost for the Mets 5-3. Come on Pirates, tank already! :D TB put up a heck of a fight, but they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory after giving up 2 runs in the bottom of the 10th to win 4-5. :( Despite an attempted rally in the 9th, KC beat the Mariners 8-11. :(

    Pie also needed the break. He played winter ball in the Dominican and likely worked his rear off attempting to come back 100% from his injury last year. Giving him more time off will help him come back next season fully healthy, refreshed, and ready to go, imo.

    Minor nitpick, but they need 11 losses. Going 3-11 the rest of the way is entirely possible at this point, though.

    Didn't Eyre sign here partly because Dusty made pre-game stretching optional or something along those lines?

    It'll take a heck of a lot to get Dunn, even if the Reds are unhappy with him for whatever reason. He's one of the premier offensive players in baseball today who would instantly make this offense a heck of a lot better. I'd expect the Reds would at least ask for more than just Murton and Dempster. I'd expect them to ask for something like Pie, Patterson, Marshall, and Eyre at the very least in exchange for Dunn.
