  1. Pie also needed the break. He played winter ball in the Dominican and likely worked his rear off attempting to come back 100% from his injury last year. Giving him more time off will help him come back next season fully healthy, refreshed, and ready to go, imo.
  2. Minor nitpick, but they need 11 losses. Going 3-11 the rest of the way is entirely possible at this point, though.
  3. Another game where the Cubs got more hits, but still were outscored! Gee Jimbo, why do ya think that is?
  4. Didn't Eyre sign here partly because Dusty made pre-game stretching optional or something along those lines?
  5. It'll take a heck of a lot to get Dunn, even if the Reds are unhappy with him for whatever reason. He's one of the premier offensive players in baseball today who would instantly make this offense a heck of a lot better. I'd expect the Reds would at least ask for more than just Murton and Dempster. I'd expect them to ask for something like Pie, Patterson, Marshall, and Eyre at the very least in exchange for Dunn.
  6. He takes off days every now and again since it seems like his wrist is indeed not fully healed.
  7. And the hits keep coming! Hooray!
  8. I can't wait to hear the fallout from this one. Here's what I'm expecting:
  9. Watch, it'll be something that has to do with Dusty pinch running him.
  10. The mediots in Cincy seem to have it in for him. Reds fans are pretty evenly divided on Dunn; half of them think he's the best player on the team who will be an offensive force for years, the other half of them think he's an unmotivated, lazy, strikes out too much, and needs to get his BA to a respectable point. Personally, I'd commit all sorts of crimes if it meant getting Dunn in LF. He'd be a gold glover compared to Moises Alou and Glenallen Hill.
  11. Teixeira plz.
  12. Jake Fox's Cumulative Splits. Fox was promoted to West Tenn in Mid-June and struggled for a bit. However, he managed a good turnaround at the end of the season. He had enough passed balls to make me concerned for his future, though.
  13. Over who, though? He hasn't trotted out Bynum at 1B yet, now has he? :P
  14. Thankfully Tampa and Pittsburgh have been holding up their end of the bargain. :D
  15. Hello, old thread. Never. Gonna. Happen. Hhahaha, you'd be surprised. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
  16. Eh, John Mabry's gotten his share of PT over other guys despite being pretty darn bad.
  17. You know my one regret about this trading deadline... Would you still trade Z for Abreu?
  18. I don't think it's that, though. He put up pretty darn good power numbers and his LD% is fairly reasonable. What most people have been criticizing him for is his lack of patience, which tends to be something that works across aluminum and wood bats.
  19. Tends to be the case unless the prospect was highly thought of. The vast majority of college draftees at the least start out in Rookie ball or Short Season A. Over the course of a season, some teams keep them there, other times they get promoted up the ladder. Depends on their success and what the team values in development. The Cubs tend to be more conservative with position players, but that could also be a result of the lack of really top notch hitters in the system. Criticizing Colvin because had a sub-.800 OPS is a bit deceptive, TT. If you said you were concerned with a guy who posted a .796 OPS in Short Season A, I'd understand and would have no quarrel. But the fact is, he was four points away from breaking the .800 mark. Would an .800 OPS on the mark have made that much of a difference in your assessment of him?
  20. He's still in my Top 10. Part of that is due to the quality of prospects already in the system and part of that is due to Colvin's performance. The power definitely came as a surprise to many, imo.
  21. With the way his numbers project, he's beginning to strike me as a potential Jock Jones type at his ceiling. Except with better numbers against LHP.
  22. IsoD by month (not including postseason): June: .069 (9 PA) July: .050 (131 PA) August: .033 (124 PA) September: .047 (24 PA) Yeah, I can't say I'm too thrilled with that trend. One can only hope he was tired and will improve next season...but I am concerned.
  23. In all fairness, coming into the season the Dodgers, Angels, Diamondbacks, and Marlins arguably had the top four farm systems in all of baseball. Because of his youth, upside, and five tool potential, Pie has been one of the top prospects in all of baseball for awhile now. He was in the Top 25 coming into the season and likely will find himself there again. The Cubs' farm system is now bereft since a number of their pitchers no longer qualify. We have a TON of ML-ready and cheap pitchers which the Marlins would be thrilled to get their hands on. Coupled with that, the system has some rising stars who will appeal to any organization. The Cubs have a lot of trading chips they can use in the offseason. Frankly, given how questionable the majority of the position players are in this year's crop, part of me would simply rather the Cubs look to the trade market. Pie alone won't get Cabrera, but a package involving Pie, Veal, and Marshall would be mighty tempting, no?
  24. I still get really angry whenever people bring up 2004. Remember when this team was ahead in the WC and merely needed to take down the Reds and Mets, who were at the time basically AAAA teams due to injuries and trades? Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh. I HATED the way that season ended.
