  1. When you walk Corey Patterson, you really should stop and re-evaluate your life.
  2. Would have been nice to see that drop for a hit. Oh well.
  3. So, how will the Cubs blow this one?
  4. Scheduled Playoff Games (All Times Local) Iowa at Oklahoma 7:05 PM (Iowa leads 2-1, best of 5) Playoff Box Scores: Daytona won 5-1 to open a 1-0 lead in their best-of-5 series Box Score
  5. That was your first mistake :-)) Moneyball is excellent but don't mistake it for a book about the importance of OBP. Many ppl miss this point: the book is about maximizing edge in the marketplace of baseball players, where edge is something like expected run production per dollar. OBP was simply the performance measure that Billy Beane discovered was the most undervalued at the time. Also keep in mind that this is something which is always shifting since these kinds of markets tend to correct themselves when something that is undervalued is being exploited. Currently, OBP is considered a valuable trait for position players to have for a number of clubs. The players with high OBP numbers are getting paid much more now than they were 10 years ago. Because of these shifts in the market and his limited budget, Beane always has to unearth valuable traits in players that other teams tend to undervalue in free agency and the draft. As for a book recommendation, I recently read The Cheater's Guide to Baseball and found it enjoyable. Zumsteg has a good sense of humor and clearly loves baseball. It never felt like he had an axe to grind or anything like that.
  6. I don't think either team could score a run with four outs in an inning at this point.
  7. They just don't make races any better. This is like watching the Special Olympics. Everybody's a winner!
  8. Daytona is up 6-0 going into the bottom of the 9th. :D
  9. I was annoyed when I found out this was on CSN+. Now I am not.
  10. I only watch Japanese cartoons when the women are being "tentacled" by large sea monsters
  11. I've always been under the impression that if Z wasn't a Cub, he'd be hated by 99.9% of the population around here. No doubt. He'd pass Valverde, AJ Alphabet, Carlos Lee, Braun, LaTroy, etc. by a mile. Message boards for other team's fans are in full agreement when it comes to hating Carlos Zambrano.
  12. I'm still sticking with the Jacque Jones comparison in terms of plate production. If Colvin can stick in CF, his numbers will be fine. If he's at a corner, I wouldn't be too thrilled with having him out there.

  14. Cashner's line is nifty. He needs to do that more often.
  15. Shawn Estes in September when it matters to the Cubs is money. That CG shutout against the Reds in '03 was the most improbably clutch performance I have ever witnessed. It was like seeing a guy in a wheelchair get up and walk around for three hours before returning back to his wheelchair. The fact that it happened still blows my mind.
  16. Shawn Estes in September when it matters to the Cubs is money.
  17. I've been drinking, should I continue to drink in celebration or in sadness?
  18. Ah, Derek Lee. I remember the numerous running jokes we had about him about a year or two ago.

  20. Carpenter's gone 3 scoreless. He has 7 Ks and has only given up 2 hits and 1 walk. :D Daytona's playoff game has gone into a slugfest. It's currently 9-8 in Daytona's favor after Daytona got 6 runs in the 8th.
  21. Dunn doubles down the RF line, Jackson scores. 4-3 Diamondbacks win.
  22. Jackson singles. Tie game.
