    He was doing that while he was on the Cubs as well. Don't remember that. I know he did a lot of stuff with the Desipio kiddies, though, so it's not particularly surprising.

    He was a first rounder a few years ago, so it's not like he's bereft of talent. I think he had some hiccups in the minors due to injuries.

    This isn't baseball, contracts aren't guaranteed. He doesn't see a dime of the 2nd year money unless he's on the roster on opening day September 2010. They don't owe him anything if they release him. Don't they take a cap hit if they release him, though?

    As memory serves me, he started off similarly slow in the MWL, followed by a streak of singles and sporadic doubles, followed by him tearing the cover off the ball for a month. I'm guessing it's been a bit of a pain for him to adjust to the FSL thanks to the rain outs and hand injury, but hopefully he can finish the season on a positive note.

    I really like him because he has a very good sinker and because he turned 20 two months ago, which is rather young for the Florida State League. He's done an excellent job of keeping the ball in the park (5 HR in 100 IP) and, from the sound of it, his secondary stuff could actually be halfway decent down the road. He still needs to work on his secondary stuff and on his control (39 BBs in 100 IP is kinda meh), plus his attitude might be a concern, but I think he has a good future.

    Just call up some random schlub from AAA and have him close. I'd rather not waste resources on Billy flipping Wagner.

    Team-by-team spending breakdown. Cubs spent the 4th least in the majors in the first 10 rounds of the draft.

    That's not the way draft compensation works. Link Teams only lose one draft pick. That's it.

    I'd rather have Guzman for high leverage situations than at closer. He's best used as a fireman. Marshall at closer isn't a bad idea, though. Offer him a one year deal with a team option for a second year and use him as a setup man. If he walks away from that, oh well.

    He might get a cup of coffee at the end of the season. I imagine he'll be sent to their rookie affiliate to be evaluated in the near future.
