  1. Yep, just another day for this team. I'm looking forward to a game full of cheap hits, Texas Leaguers, seeing eye singles, and stupid errors.
  2. Rain delay in Peoria. Z's final line: 5 scoreless, 4 H, 0 BB, 5 K
  3. Would you prefer Cowboy Up? or screw up, which is what he did to this team. Might as well go whole hog and say [expletive] up.
  4. Maybe this team's amphetamine shipment was held up in customs.
  5. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand this post just went off the rails.
  6. Valdez returned to Boise's lineup last night.
  7. BA confirms the Brandon May signing. Still no updates on their list with anyone else.

  9. They absolutely have a chance. They're currently in 3rd place in their division, but only 1.5 games out of first. I'm not familiar with how wild cards work in the PCL (or even if they have them in the first place), so I'm not sure if that's another route to the playoffs. 4 divisions, each team in first place goes to the playoffs.
  10. Yeah but those turds are definately getting a good laugh at us over at gwrb. We'd be laughing at them over here if the tables were turned.
  11. I'll be shocked if the Cubs win 1 game in this upcoming series.
  12. i actually kinda like the hardy idea. he's a perfect buy-low option. Considering Gordon was just demoted, he's also a good buy low candidate.
  13. At the time, I thought it was fairly underwhelming. I was not a fan of Brett Jackson and I simply did not want the Cubs to take him. Given that everyone was extremely excited about his tools, but that his production in college was not particularly eye-opening, I had a bad feeling about him. I'm fine with those kinds of guys in later rounds, but with first rounders, I don't want to see the Cubs take a guy who had questions about whether they could hit with wood. As for the rest of the draft, there was a lot of...blah. I liked LeMahieu and Raley, but some picks either had me scratching my head (Darvill) or just struck me as straight up signability picks (Rusin). It did not seem like there were a lot of guys who were at the very least intriguing. As I mentioned elsewhere, I loved what the Pirates were doing in terms of taking guys dropping due to signing demands. They were going out and taking risks after the first round. The Cubs did not seem to make many risky picks. Right now, it still seems somewhat underwhelming. Jackson has done better than even the most positive expectations I had for him. After him, no one has played enough to get a good handle on them. The signings...eh. They got their Top 10 picks signed, which is more than a number of teams can say. I was happy to see Raley and Burruel signed. But, without guys like Whaley, Walker, Esquivel, and Sheppard signing, it seemed like the Cubs left some interesting names on the table. As things stand now, I'd probably give the draft a C+. 1) OF Brett Jackson 2) IF DJ LeMahieu 3) LHP Brooks Raley 4) LHP Austin Kirk 5) C Sergio Burruel 6) RHP Robert Whitenack 7) LHP John Mincone 8) LHP Chris Rusin 9) RHP Trey McNutt 10) IF Wes Darvill Hard to rank everyone at this point. I think 1-4 are set in stone, with Burruel and Whitenack competing for 5 and 6, and then the rest of the names can pretty much go in any number of different orders. Pretty much everyone after Jackson. If he's the only name on everyone's Cubs' Top 10 list after next season from this draft, that will be a bad sign.
  14. Frankly, I don't blame you for wondering whether Burke has finally turned the corner. There is a legitimate point in saying that this is his third go-round in the MWL and that he fell on his face both times. Yes, he was fresh out of high school in his first go-round, but remember that he was a supplemental first round pick by the Padres who was highly touted as a five tool OFer. You would expect someone like him to move quickly through a system, but he has not done that. If he produces like this next season in Daytona or Tennessee, then there will be legitimate reason to be excited. For now, cautious optimism seems to be the order of the day for him.
  15. We also picked late, so slot would have us paying less than most every other team, too. We did, but the Cubs also shied away from guys who dropped due to signability reasons for much of the draft. I look at what the Pirates did this year and find myself quite jealous of them (which is an incredibly bizarre feeling to have towards the Pirates) for what they did after the first day of the draft. Even with their draft as it is, it would have been nice to see the Cubs spend another $1m-$2m to get some of the guys they did draft. Maybe word will leak out about Esquivel/Walker/Sheppard/Whaley/etc in the next few days, but for now, it's a bit of a bummer. Their draft was fairly underwhelming at the time and it's still looking that way now.
  16. Could be a decent lefty reliever, but his stuff isn't all that great.
  17. Does anyone wear those things any more with Beege and Bonds gone? I see elbow wraps and light pads occasionally, but nothing anywhere close to what either of those two wore.
