The 2006 team had fairly lofty expectations, especially after Lee's monster 2005 and the rotation (*snicker*) supposedly healthy coming into Spring Training. Moreover, with the moves Hendry made, he sure as heck expected this team to have improved over 2005's Cubs and that they would be in contention. I'm not saying that was a good team from the outset, but the Cubs sure as heck sold themselves like they could compete.

With new ownership and the Cubs underperforming this year, Jim Hendry would have to be on the hot seat. I can't imagine many people would want to come here if Hendry's job is on the line.
