  1. I'd withhold the hearty handshake Give them Marquez Smith instead of Vitters and a fist bump instead of a heart handshake and it's a deal? first bump with explosion http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MUf4Eu52Nrs/ThxnBm-osMI/AAAAAAAAASQ/9QcXnafINLY/s320/respekKnuckles.jpg
  2. Seriously, screw the Braves for collapsing and letting this happen.
  3. I don't think this would hurt Ricketts a whole lot. He's the primary reason why these negotiations have made it this far. Everything is in place for Theo to come to the Cubs. If the Red Sox decide to submarine everything by demanding Castro or Garza, Ricketts will come off really well for turning them down. Plus, considering the compensation and amount of autonomy Ricketts offered Epstein, I have to imagine this would make the Cubs an incredibly attractive location for GM candidates. Ricketts is serious about building a contender and doing what it takes to win. He clearly would put his utmost faith and support behind Epstein. Imagine being a Rick Hahn or a John Copolella if this deal fell through? The Red Sox, on the other hand, are in a rough spot. If they kill this deal, their front office would be in complete and total disarray. Ben Cherrington had the GM spot in his grasp, only for it to be taken away because the owners were too stubborn? Why would he want to stay? Theo Epstein would sure as hell be disgruntled after that mess. What manager would want to replace Francona if they know the front office could change drastically in the next year? This should be fine, unless the Red Sox decide to do something incredibly stupid.
  4. Murder-suicide pact with Chocolate Milk.
  5. Holy crap a lot of the old guard is coming out of the woodwork for this stuff.
  6. Nomo had a ridiculous rookie campaign, but he never came close to replicating that success and ended up with a career ERA+ under 100. Kuroda is one I missed -- will be interested in seeing how his career ends up. Kuroda is available this offseason. He'll be 37 next season, but might be worth a 1-2 year deal to help shore up the rotation.
  7. Happy Happy Joy Joy! At first I http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/comment/39/2010/09/aaa7f6db6cf5537cd75893a0e1195dcb/340x.gif And then I http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/comment/39/2010/09/ee0ce3fb3f50b1a89d1433e77c40355f/340x.gif

  10. Should runners slide into first base on close plays?
  11. You forgot Jim Ross. "BAH GAWD ALMIGHTY KING, THAT MAN HAS A FAMILY!"
  12. Imagine if this all fell apart because of compensation. We've heard of teams battling through chemistry problems because of disgruntled players. What the heck happens when you have a disgruntled general manager?
  13. They've done an outstanding job of drafting players since Epstein took over. They're willing to spend, plus they do a really nice job of finding diamond in the rough types.
  14. Do they still have Gold Medal Ribbon? That's some of the best ice cream ever. Cripes, the announcement can't come soon enough...
  15. It isn't his decision to make, but the Red Sox have been really good about giving their talented young players opportunities (Papelbon, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Buchholz, Lester, etc.). Hopefully he'll bring that mentality with him to the Cubs...assuming he signs.
  16. He wants more money.
  17. This is brilliant. Works for me!
  18. Theo for President Cherington for GM Ricketts for God
  19. It reminded me of the time I wrote a five page paper for Creative Writing about how I couldn't find a topic for my paper.
  20. So, can we now start up the Cashman to the Cubs rumors since the Yankees just got bounced from the playoffs?
  21. I [expletive] hate the Yankees...yet I also [expletive] hate Jose Valverde. Choices, choices.
  22. One of the best arms I've ever seen on a catcher. I remember seeing him throw out runners while on his knees.
  23. I wonder if the plus arm evaluation is based on his age, rather than based on where it currently is relative to arms like Castro and Barney. Hernandez might be a prospect who could beef up his arm strength to plus level with the right conditioning regimen.
