and Pierre only got on base at a .326 clip last year. I bet that's not much higher (if at all higher) than what our leadoff men got on at last year. Average is all well and good, but really, if player A has a .300 avg, and player B has a .250 avg, and both players have a .320 OBP, who gets on base more? Neither, OBP is what you want in leadoff men. I would hardly call him a MONSTER upgrade. Oh, and you mention you want your leadoff man to be able to steal....he got caught 17 times (out of 74 attempts) last year. You may say he had a much better year in 04, which, avg/obp wise he did, but his Base stealing was even more atrocious. he was caught 24 out of 69 attempts!
