    We really are in some deep doodoo now if the whole furcal to the dodgers thing is true. We focused everything we had on furcal, and now, we missed out. We now have to pursue improvments through trade. And other teams know that we are in a panic state of mind, also. So they will make us overpay. THis could suck.

    FWIW, the LA Times is owned by the Tribune Co. True, But I still find it odd that its been close to an hour and NO other media source has reported it except the LA times has reported this.

    some "baseball toaster" site is reporting it now, but it is siting the times as its source, so really, still only one media source.

    Do I smell another ESPN reporting Maddux goes to Yankees back in 2004? C'mon brotha's ... hold out hope, maybe Furcal is going to be a Cub after all. No other news outlets have picked up on this. Sports Center is on now, and nothing yet. We'll see.

    Like Tim, I am trusting of Aramis Fan. I really doubt he would sign his own death certificate like that. But at the same time, I dont have any clue why Hendry would tell Kasper anything about this. And even if he did, why on earth would he be telling announcing it in public. Couldnt he get in trouble for that?

    NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's only a few untouchables on this club this offseason: DLee, Aramis, Zambrano, and Prior. Everyone else is fair game in my book for the right deal. Untouchables are overrated. I'd trade anyone for the right deal. Would you seriously turn down Arod for DLee? I wouldnt. Or Dlee for Vlad and Chone FIggins. I'd do that so fast it'd make heads spin. EVERYBODY is available for the "right price" Yeah, but there is no way Abreu is worth giving up Z, if only b/c of age. I wouldnt do that deal either, but the fact remains. If it improves our team. I'd trade anyone.

    it would be nice if you would tell us why you think this would be such a bad decision. Because when you have the payroll flexibility that the Cubs do, something like this should be inexcuseable and totally unnecessary! If we can improve our team by trading him, why would that be inexcusable.

    It amazes me how people can totally scoff at the idea of trading Dlee with no consideration. Yes, he's damn good. Yes, he has a spectacular year last year. And its because of how good he was last year that we should at least see what he could net us. If he could net us Arod, would you not pull the trigger? I would. What about Dlee for Vlad and Figgins or something like that. I'd do that. If we could make a deal that improves the team, then trade him. Dont trade him for equal value, and dont trade him for less (obviously). But because of last year, teams will probably be willing to overpay for him.

    Yea, I am starting to feel uneasy, also. Since Giles is off the market, if we want to improve our team through free agency we HAVE to sign Furcal. We all know this. And unfortunatley so does Furcal and his agent. Right now I am still hopeful that we can sign furcal. However, if he doesnt sign here in the next 48 hours I will start to get very concerned. If we miss out on furcal what are our options then? Nomar- Sign him to a low base-high incentive contract based on PA's. Cedeno- Give him the job, full time. Which means we really need a stud outfielder even more. Our choices there would have to come via trade, Such as: Abreu - The chances he's traded have become more unlikely thanks to the Thome deal. ManRam- We'd have to pay alot of his contract probably, which is fine since we do have a good chunk of change just sitting around. Dunn - Another good choice, however, does Cincy even want to trade him? The problem, to me, is that if we miss out on the FA market, then we will have to grossly overpay to get players through trade. Other teams arent stupid, they'll know we're in Panic mode. And they will surely use that to make us overpay. So yah, i'm getting worried.

    Yeah...now if the Braves would just re-sign Furcal...they'red be almost no one to insure Neifi doesn't play 4 days a week. :roll: You just gotta have faith Hendry can net Furcal. I dont want Pierre and his microscopic OBP anywhere around here. You mean his career .355 OBP? It's last years .326 i'm worried about. I realize that was a career low, But what worries me is that he may not ever make it back up to the .350 mark. Not to mention his horrible base stealing "abilities".
