I've always kinda liked figgins if for no other reason than his awesomely hilarious first name, but I don't know quite what to make of him He had two solid years in 04 and 05, a pretty terrible year in 06, a great year in 07, then another pretty poor year last year. Granted, he gets on base at a pretty decent clip and he has some speed, but his stolen base totals have dropped each of the last four years by about 10 per year and he doesn't have crap in the way of power. I suppose we could do worse for a leadoff man but, he's so up and down that it's hard to tell.

Unknown. But they get transported all around the country with a major league team and all that jazz. Plus they pitch batting practice on occasion, so that's got to be a pretty sweet job too. I'd do it for free. You know, if I could find some other way to actually make money enough to support myself.

One can easily infer from your post that you believe that, but you made no argument to support that opinion. The point is, you are notorious for making bold statements like that and giving no argument whatsoever to back it up, and then you went and talked about truffle for doing the exact same thing.

I actually talked to two of the bullpen catchers last year and i know one of them used to be a pitcher in the A's system who never really panned out and, he said he wanted to stay in baseball so he decided to take the job as a bullpen catcher.

And...he gives no new info, really. This is the part I hate about deals. We're all just waiting for it to go down. I just want to hear the final word.

Just finished my last final of the semester. I now have a week to lounge in chicago before I go home and start working over X-mas break. This day already rocks. C'mon Hendry, make it rock more.

Thanks, Rob and BBB. I have my last final today at 12:30 so after that I'm done with the semester. I'll probably spend some down time over the next couple weeks adding some stuff to this. But if anyone has the formula/defenition of WARP and VORP, etc or the links to them that'd be pretty swell.

So does anybody want to give serious feedback? Or am I alone in thinking that this would be helpful? I see people question what stats are quite often on the board, and I think it would be beneficial to be able to have something to like to, to explain certain stats.

So does this mean I should stop checking in between here and mlbtrade rumors every chance I get hoping to read about a done deal? That report by Levin has at best a 50/50 shot at being true. So it fits right in with this thread, basically.

The question I'm raising is whether he'll *be* a pitcher of current Peavy caliber in 2011 and 2012. Pitchers are tough to count on. They are, but he has shown the ability to be very consistent over the past 5 years. Plus, he'll only be 28 next year and he'll only be 31 in 2012. I'm sure we will see some decline from what he is currently but generally, if I'm not mistaken, pitchers just don't fall off the map at age 30.

Well, if that's his name, then surely you can project how good he'll be in four seasons with strong confidence. Really? His last 5 seasons: Year ERA ERA+ 2004 2.27 171 2005 2.88 134 2006 4.09 99 2007 2.54 159 2008 2.85 134 He had one season that was clearly a fluke, are we really going to argue his worth? No. We're arguing how far you can project pitchers into the future. We're in win-right-now-immediately mode, so I'm not poopooing the deal, but rest assured there is a strong chance we won't like the last year or two of his contract. Well i'm sure it's been discussed already in the 60+ pages but 2013 is a club option so we're not bound to that massive 22 Mil he's owed that year. In 2011 and 2012 he's owed 16 and 17 mil respectively, which is certainly not junk change but for a pitcher of Peavy's caliber it could be worse.

I may be mis-remembering (and it also could be nothing), but aren't there concerns over the health of his elbow? Possibly, he did pitch less than 200 innings last year (173) for the first time since 2004
