  1. Notre Dame Sure, they won't be anywhere near the BCS next fall. Actually, they will come in ranked in the top 10...play a relatively easy schedule...win 10-12 games and be right back in the BCS next year. Get used to ND playing in January. Actually, they will come in unranked (or 24th, depending on the poll)...play a really tough schedule...win 7-8 games and be right back in the Champs Sports Bowl next year. That was Notre Dame coming into this year. Doesn't always work out like that. I'm not saying they have no chance of making the title game or a BCS game next year, just that it's far from a sure thing. Lose tight road games at Michigan and Stanford, one of Michigan State/Oklahoma/USC (all at home) or Arizona St (neutral site) and one against the rest of the schedule (a letdown type game against a weaker opponent, which they won all of this year) and you've got an 8-4 record and no BCS game. Sure, that's possible. But I find it pretty unlikely.
  2. You might want to do some research I suggest starting by asking Bum about Purdue. Or counting Minnesota and Illinois championships Well, I know Illinois claims 3 or 4 that are claimed by a whole bunch of other schools...so, I guess we can count those.
  3. You haven't won anything in 25 years and just got embarrassed on national television...and your response is to claim bragging rights over Indiana, Purdue, Illinois and Minnesota. I never claimed bragging rights. I'm just pointing out that the above teams suck.
  4. Sad thing is he's probably an IU basketball fan. :hello: Or ND
  5. Eh, I just find it very ironic for Indiana/Purdue/Illinois/Minnesota etc fans to be knocking ND. Bundle up everything those programs have ever done and it still pales in comparison to ND football history.

  7. Bah. If you're gonna go for this, go big. I say Texas. I would agree, except for the fact that Texas will be back to winning the Big 12 within a year or two. I'm talking about the true garbage teams...
  8. Daniels is really coming along. Next year's offense is going to be greatly improved...Greg Bryant is likely to come in and make an immediate impact, the addition of a healthy Carlisle helps and Golson should be worlds better. Defense should make strides too...sure wish we would have held on to Darby, he would have helped a ton tonight.
  9. Has anyone picked Purdue yet? I'm debating between them and Minnesota for my next selection.
  10. MR and Andy---here's a fun game. Let's name all the teams represented in this thread that won't be sniffing a BCS game in next decade. I'll go first- Indiana.
  11. ND now with the #1 ranked class both on ESPN and Rivals. Of course, we will how things shake out officially on NSD. The rise of ND over the past 12 months has been unbelievable.
  12. Do you seriously think that intangibles don't make a difference? Make a difference? Maybe some. But talk about there being "something special about this kid" and "knowing how to win" is just nonsense. He was the #1 pick in the NFL draft and he was the best player in college football. Now, as a rookie he leads his team to 11 wins. I don't think it's nonsense to say Luck is special or is a winner. It's pretty obvious that both things are true.

  14. Depending on the model (and most don't seem to vary much), the Ravens, Patriots, Bengals, Texans, Colts, Falcons, Redskins and Broncos were all in the bottom third of strength of schedule. Only the Vikings and Packers were in the top half of strength of schedule. Last season, the Patriots, Saints, 49ers, Texans, Packers, Ravens, Falcons were all in the bottom 3rd (with the Steelers and Bengals just missing at 19th). The point is, playoff teams often have a poor strength of schedule... I'm not a Colts fan or a Luck fan, but to act as if there is nothing special about this kid or that he just lucked into 11 wins is a little silly.
  15. Even using raw stats this isn't true. Luck is a rookie. The stats are very close to even and Luck has got his team in the playoffs in year one. If every GM in the NFL was offered the choice of Luck or Bradford, how many would choose Luck? And how many seconds would it take them to make that decision? Who the [expletive] cares? Luck is an average quarterback and he doesn't posses some gene that allows him to play better in certain situations. Well, I guess we disagree. It's probably not genetic, but I do think Luck is a winner. This isn't baseball...I think the QB being "a winner" actually does have an impact on team play.
  16. Add Rogers Hornsby to the list of HOF players starting and ending in the same city.

  18. Yeah, it's just that there's a lot of factors that go in besides just assuming that Luck was transcendent in the fourth quarter. My own guy Sam Bradford had quite a few excellent fourth quarters but he played uneven in the other three periods. I don't think this means he has a knack for clutch play at all. Luck is much better than Bradford.
  19. Roberto Garza and Armando Allen
  20. Redskins over Seahawks Packers over Vikings Colts over Ravens Texans over Bengals Redskins over Falcons 49ers over Packers Broncos over Colts Patriots over Texans 49ers over Redskins Patriots over Broncos Patriots over 49ers
  21. And that's a good thing? Yes. Do you want a GM that is hamstrung by the McCaskeys? I don't. I'm not 100% confident that Emery will be any good, but I want him to be able to make the moves he wants to make.
  22. I know we are all aware of how awful the ESPN talking heads are, but geez, this morning is brutal. There are so many reasons Lovie needed to go and all I keep hearing is "10-6" and "Superbowl in 2006." This is a great day for the Bears, if only because we now can be confident that Emery can run his own show.
