  1. i can't believe how insanely nervous i already am for this game. where are the local chicago nsbbers going to watch the game?
  2. You're going to *love* me whenever we go out in the playoffs. I'm setting up an emergency mod protocol for such a scenario. I remember last time I compared us being excited about making the playoffs to my cat being excited when I bring home burgers. Then I spent an entire offseason telling everyone I was trying to be a Cardinals fan. kyle having a cat is the most predictable thing ever
  3. yeesh. remember last year when there was this optimism that Bostic would be good LB, Fuller was the lockdown CB, Vereen a starter at safety, Jennings set at starter for a couple of years. a year later and the back 7 is in rough shape. oh, yeah. the offense fell off a cliff as well.
  4. In a hypothetical NLDS game 2, I wonder if it's looking more likely that Hendricks, with a very short leash, will get the start instead of Hammel. Just looking at his fangraphs page, Hendricks has had a much better year than i initially thought as his ERA is a bit inflated with an LOB% a shade under 70%. Although it's probably easy to make a correlation between his below-average LOB% with below-average stuff.
  5. does anyone else find themselves clapping along?
  6. Yea I made the decision yesterday to power ahead with gardening and just did the fast forward quick watch later at night... Didn't care about being spoiled or anything. Just watching individuals on the replay. I dozed off once the seahawks went up 3-0 only to wake up to see Sherman's return TD. Go cubs
  7. schwarber's really struggled with lefties, hasn't he?
  8. First, as David mentions, he's only missed 7 games in his career. Second, he wasn't injury prone in college so I'm not sure how Emery could have predicted your notion of "injury proneness". Third, he's a damn good receiver and probably the best WR out of the 2012 draft (maybe TY Hilton, but that's it). The knock on Alshon was he was out of shape, which suggests a lack of taking care of yourself and a potential tendency for lots of injuries. If his career winds up being a bit more injury prone than it has to date (he's missed 15% of games depending on what happens Sunday), you could make a case that it would be a knock on the people that ignored the physical questions pre-draft. That was the knock on Alshon going into the draft, but everything we've heard is that he's been in great shape since he turned pro. And again, he was said to be out of shape during his junior year at SC and still didn't have any injuries like the aforementioned ones that has kept him out of 1 game in the last 2+ seasons.

  11. montero is going to say something to the cheetah and the cheetah is going to eat him
  12. This is my 10th game of this season and 7 of them have been hendricks' starts. 1 lester, 2 hammel, and no jake :(

  14. haha, schwarber's still OPSing .806 while batting .179.
  15. it'd be nice for rizzo to get an off-day or two before the end of the season. seems like maddon has been talking about it for a couple of months but obviously rizzo hasn't sat.
  16. Pretty sure it's on a Wednesday God I hope that's right. I teach on Tuesday nights. And they're giving speeches so it's not like I can give them an "out of class assignment" instead of holding class. October 7th is a Wednesday
  17. Gm# Date Opponent Score Starter Opp Starter 114 Fri 08/14 Pittsburgh 17- 2 Wells Morton I remember that pirates game, Cubs finally had a big outburst but everyone knew that the window had closed for that group. Cubs were on a losing streak and the Cardinals had gone on a freaking tear to crack open the division.
  18. I'd take him at 3/30, guessing he'll go for the 1 year deal though. I wonder if he'll just take the QO and/or if the White Sox even extend it to him? If I'm Shark, I need a fresh start and look elsewhere. Are the Sox even going to offer him the QO? Are his numbers the last 2 years still good enough for compensation? Even if they are, do they want risk him coming back next year? He's gonna have a hard time finding someone to take him on if he rejects that qualifying offer. On the other hand, i'd be surprised if the white sox would even extend him the QO in the first place, since they would be paying nearly $30m for Shark and Danks to be their 4th and 5th starters.
